Description
You see before you a lithe figure that stretches to just under six and a
half feet. His raven-black hair contrasts sharply with his pale ivory skin.
The hair flows freely and stretches to the middle of his back. You notice
three small braids hanging from his brow, each one tied at the bottom with
a piece of claw. His eyes are emerald in color, and hold a serious, focused
gaze in them. His face is handsome and would be even more so if not for the
clawed scar that starts at his left temple and runs to his chin. His build
is thin and athletic with his arms and legs being well toned, but obviously
lacking any raw power. His armor is very well cared for, though mismatched.

Dreams Part 1

The young wood-elf bolted upright from his sleep, a sheen of sweat heavy on
his brow. He didn't scream anymore like he did when he was younger, he knew
it was just a dream. The same dream, again and again. A wall of trees grown
so tightly together that they formed an impenetrable barrier, holding....
something back. Some sort of dark, unnatural magic or force. He stood in
front of the trees, watching them. He knew he could not look away, that his
constant vigilance gave the trees strength, kept the force beyond at bay.
He could hear his family behind him, joy and happiness in their voices. His
youngest sister would cry out in pain and he would turn to see a tendril of
smoke, or mist had crept through the wall of trees and grabbed around her
ankle and tugged at her. As he turned his gaze back to the trees they would
shatter, and the force would be unleashed, rushing past him and swallowing
his family in tortured screams of anguish.
He thought back to the first time he had the dream as he swung his feet to
the cold, wooden floor, taking care not to make any noise and awake the
other students in the school. He quietly dressed himself and made his way
to the training field, gathering up a spear to practice with from the rack
at the door of the barracks. He spotted Thrym at the far side of the field,
who simply nodded at his restless student. Tylluan nodded in return and got
to work. As he went through the motions, he remembered that first night. He
had been terrified, he awoke screaming, his father came into his room as if
he expected to face an entire raiding party. His mother came quickly to his
side, chiding his father to stand down. It was just a bad dream, and he was
not helping by looming over him with an axe in his hand. What made that
night the strangest, was all the other children in his home and his village
were recounting vivid, and happy dreams of glowing dust. But Tylluan knew
that something was wrong, something was off, and not all would be happy.
He leaned against the fence at the edge of the field for a brief respite
from his training. It was early morning now, just before the sunrise. He
breathed deeply and morning dew filled his nostrils. The memory of the walk
across the village green as his parents took him to see the priestess of
the ancients came flooding back. The wet grass swished slightly as Tylluan
and his parents approached the small grove of ash trees at the west end of
the village, and even in his youth he had to duck under the gnarled branch
that served as the lintel to the ancient doorway. He remembered the change
in smell, from fresh grass and morning dew to sage smoke and ash mixed with
blood, amongst a hundred other smells.
Dreams Part 2

He sat for a while, as the old crone performed her various rituals and
muttered ancient words. His parents had left, and it was just he and the
timeless vessel of the ancients. He could feel something, or someone, just
at the edge of his conciousness. Ancient beings just beyond the reach of
his focus, they whispered to him, in old and primal tongues, he understood
none of it, but felt them pushing him, driving him in a direction. The
feeling grew stronger and stronger, to the point that he started to become
uneasy, when the crone clapped her hands loudly right in front of his face.
The voices stopped, and she uttered another sentence in the old tongue. She
looked deep into Tylluan's eyes, into his soul and through to his fate.
"You will go to Thrym, you will learn his ways, and you will keep us safe."
"What do you mean, safe from what?" Tylluan questioned. There were hundreds
more on his mind, but that felt the most pressing.
"Whatever is to come. I don't yet know, but I do know this. It is unnatural
and ancient, and feels of dark and unholy magics." Her brow furrowed, as if
there was more to say but she was afraid of it. "You must leave at the next
full moon, and seek out Thrym in the village of Balator, he will teach you
and put you on your path."
The ancient voices came back as the memory faded, this time, he could make
out what they were saying, they were calling to him! They knew his name!
"Tylluan." A rough hand matching the rough voice snapped him out of his
reverie. Thrym. That wasn't the ancient voices after all. "Tylluan boy, you
are learning well. Go join the others for breakfast, your body needs the
nourishment." Thrym smiled as the thoughtful young wood-elf nodded with a
slight small and trotted off towards the cooking fires. He'd make a fine
battlerager someday Thrym thought to himself.
An Old Wound
Added Tue Dec 8 14:02:36 2020 at level 49:
Snow fell over the village, twinkling in the torchlight as Tylluan limped
into the healer's hut, a trail of bright red drops followed the shuffling
trail of footsteps. He grunted as he lowered his head to clear the door,
and looked sheepishly at Rhuean, who simply pointed to a small bench. He
could feel Armitage in the deep shadows, watching carefully. He settled
onto the bench, and pulled off his armor, the wound in his side still bled,
though it would not be beyond Rhuean's skilled healing to fix.
Tylluan grimaced and wrinkled his nose. Rhuean smirked at his discomfort.
"Don't be such a whiner, you'll get used to the smell, and this is better
than letting it bleed and fester." Tylluan grunted in response, a slight
smirk appearing across his face, the pungent aroma of the poultice pulled
his memory back to the first time he had received a similair treatment. He
was in his final year at Thrym's school, and he and a handful of others had
gone hunting in the woods to the southeast of the Balator farmland. What
the young soldiers had not expected to find was a pack of hungry wolves on
their own hunt for meat.
Thrym's touch was considerably rougher than Rhuean's. He slapped a thick
mixture of herbs and gravelly mud across the left side of Tylluan's face
and gruffed - "Keep your hand on it," grabbing Tylluan's hand and pressing
it onto the poultice. "Tell me lad, what happened?"
"Well we were on the trail of a boar and it had dropped down into a ravine,
you know the one, on the far east of the wood, where it drops to the bluffs
over the sea. We dropped down the rocks at the head, and started our stalk.
The arial, Etsija caught scent of them first, and motioned for us to set a
defense, but it was too late. The wolves were on us. We fought a losing
battle, but were able to retreat without losing anything but our pride, at
least." Tylluan chuckled and the gasped in pain. His head was on fire from
the paw swipe he had received.
Thrym looked the young wood-elf up and down, then smiled grimly. "Well, way
I heard the story from the others, at least one of them would be dead, had
you not tackled the lead wolf. Way I heard was Etsija had dropped her spear
and was scrambling back on her arse when you put yourself inbetween her and
her would be killer. Got anything to say about that?"
"Just doing what was needed, so we wouldn't lose anyone," Tyllaun responded
with confidence. Thrym felt even more sure, he'd be a good soldier. "You
know the overlook, on the east side of the fields?" Thyrm asked and Tylluan
nodded in return. "Go there, and look to the south. Go there and seek out
old Panmorne, I reckon he can teach you a thing or two about duty."
