Description
An oversized and unusually mountain-like hunch seems to jut aft of a large
bulbous, horned visage. Covered in a patchwork of chestnut and cream fur, it
barely seems to distort a brawny and war-hardened frame. Sharp, angular form
give a strong impression of masculine features yet the anatomy of his upper
torso is clearly far more representative of a bull or ox. From the shoulders
down, he is adorned by leather and metallic armament, a small knapsack has be
slung cross-ways along his back, and a scabbard hangs to his size. As if thi
amalgam of man and beast was not eye catching enough, he bares a series of
scars down most of the length of his left side which run from just below his
chin and terminate by his hip and the small finger missing from his hand.

Ubankoz was born within the outskirts of Seantryn Modan. His birth was not out
of the ordinary, at least for a Minotaur. Mother was some sort of field maiden
and his father an outlaw. He had been told that this was often the way of
things, it was quite seldom for a human woman to willingly accept one of his
kind during the blood rites. Although the act of birthing had killed his
mother, he was yet very happy to be counted among the living.
He grew rapidly, as most minotaur do. Before he knew it, he had been sold off
by his bandit father, a few gold and a few nights at the brothel he figured
were a fair price. The people who had purchased him were not kind, though they
were not mean either, they were simply indifferent. They used his size and
youth to their advantage, much as a farmer may use any bovine creature, he was
a beast of burden.
The task assigned to him was one which he often considered futile but so long
as he wasn't beaten too bad and was kept fed, he continued doing. The
transformation of swampland into arable and solid ground. Most days he spent
dragging logs, forming troughs and slowly filling them in with hard-pack dirt,
being sure to mix in the earthly muck from below. He did this for five seasons
and had since resigned this to be his life but things changed.

One autumn evening, as he was finishing up for the day, he heard a raucous
clamor. It was unlike anything he had heard before. From a distance it
sounded like it felt when his pick would find a hard stone, unexpectedly. The
sounds grew louder and began to make his skin tingle with anticipation. The
fur on the back of his neck rose and his muscles drew taunt. Before him were
three figures that clearly wanted each other dead.
The two aggressors arrived from the northeast, pushing back a lone man, baring
a long pointed stick in his hands. Still brimming with nervous energy, he
snorted. Instantly, he regretted it as the two locked eyes on him. Regardless
of his intent, they must have decided he was a threat because before he even
realized what they were saying, a large boulder came hurtling from their
direction crashing into him and striking him hard. Then, everything went
black.
He awoke to the smoky scent of cooking meat, he really enjoyed it after all.
This thought however was fleeting because the entire left side of his body
ached with pain. It had been wrapped in many strips of some sort of cloth and
he could smell something a little acrid that they'd been dipped in. Not far
away, across a spit covered fire pit was the man from before.
As he tried to rise up the pain flared within him, burning the length across
his left side and he let out a little bellow. The man across from him perked
up at this and let out a little laugh. They then began speaking to one
another, a conversation that lasted long into the night. This was the
beginning of his self imposed freedom and his personal war against those that
did this sort of thing.
The First Steps.

Having survived the life or death experience, Ubankoz had finally decided to
walk down the path of an adventurer and not just any but to learn how to fight
and defend himself with his own power. The first stop on this arduous journey
was for him to make his way into the academy. There he learned of the plethora
of talents spread across the lands. At first he had anticipated that he may
have to learn of magic or some special powers but each time he decided to
study, the experience would flood his thoughts, bringing him pain and
frustration.
Before long, he came into a place that smelled of sweat and dried blood. After
introductions, he found himself with a broken fist and a bleeding lip and
discovered that his way of speaking mattered little compared to aptitude. It
was then that he knew the life of a warrior was to be his. He picked up some
basics in defense, hand fighting and blades before setting off to learn better
how it was that he was going to wage his war.
War, he discovered the term while studying the way of the warrior. Roughly
translated, he found that it refers to a series of skirmishes, battles, and
conflicts which are centered around an ideal or creed. There were many wars,
both physical and mentally and this is what attracted him to the study of it.
He would use it and the tactics associated with it to take on magic for having
been used to try to kill him and for having rejected him.

Although the path thus far has been treacherous, Ubankoz has been steadily
marching forward. In his desire to become a more prolific tool in his war on
magi, he has honed his skills as a warrior, advancing in many weapons and
taking up a discipline with pole weapons. Their long reach, difficulty to
defend against, and unique fighting style drew him to the task and he seeks to
learn as much about their forms as about the different weapons themselves.
During that struggle, he has faced many enemies. Having some victories but
also learning the pain associated with defeats. His largest disadvantage for
the majority of his crusade has been the inability to see his prey or attackers
coming. Somehow, they're able to bend the light around them, rendering them
almost completely hidden from his sight, only noticing when they move. It has
cost him a few times already but that advantage's end has been sighted.
Truesight, as it's called by those of the Battle Ragers is a power developed by
experimentation on ancient men and women, passed down through the village to
use as a tool in warring with magi. Now he too can call upon it, piercing the
veil of light hiding his foes. The steps he first took, way back in the swamp,
led him to these people and the village they reside. After facing trials of
blood and gore, he's earned a place among the huts of the village and now calls
it his home.

Finding these people was just as much of a chance as the initial encounter when
their war had spilled over into the swamp he was working. He first discovered
them when told of a way to destroy magical items. He'd deliver items to this
old smith called Tahren, his astounding ability allows him to break and burn up
magic in many forms. One day, after having brought down his first foe, this
man asked if he wanted to do more and that's all it took to begin the trials as
an applicant to the Village.
These first steps pushed him. Beyond the normal lands, across the seas, and
over the treacherous mountains he marches and explores. With tenacious spirit,
his fight expands and joins his and the village's war together. Within a
couple years of living this way, he met the Commander of the Village and
finally realized his application to the village. This is when he learned how
to further his talents and discern the affects of magic.
Inside the village is a division of labor, or in this case a division of
warfare. They have medicinal healing defenders, frothing berserking
front-linesmen and sharp eyed scouts. The latter is his chosen study. Together
with these new abilities and with the writings on how to wage war in the
village, he furthers his studies and has stumbled across a new trail, Panmorne.

Wisdom. The difference between it and intelligence is often blurred and many
times misunderstood. It is quite possible to be wise but not intelligent as
well as the opposite. It is also entire plausible to have both or neither. If
Ubankoz first encounter with the divine being, Panmorne, has taught him
anything, it is that this being is endowed with a great deal of wisdom.
Whether it's the practical situations that he covered or the quick quips when
chatting, he is deemed both wise and intelligent. During their brief
encounter, they discussed tactics and insights, especially perspectives on
communication and how important it is to someone like him, who naturally has an
impediment, to be clear and accurate. After all, he thinks, sound tactical
maneuvers and strategy involve effective communication and it's important to
remember that it can be accomplished by more than words alone.
In the end, he believes that he has gained some much needed insights, ones that
he may have taken for granted. He left feeling a bit better about his combat
abilities, a new task to complete but also feeling somewhat foolish for not
considering other paths to inevitable conclusions.

The night was quiet and nondescript. The cool evening air was soft with only
the faintest trace of mist making it's way to the road from the river.
Suddenly, from above, with the sky as black as coal a winged figure assailed
Ubankoz. It took only a moment to recognized it for what it was, a
"Nightgaunt". Feeling his best chance was to allow it to take him, he jumped
at the beast, catching it around the waist and hanging on for dear life as it
flapped it's way back to the master.
It dropped him within a dank and swampy woodlands. Before catching his breath,
attackers were at his sides and back. A large bulky elemental, shaking the
ground with it's steps, a nightmarish demon, some undead looking spider-like
creature and a mage, directing them all. Thoughts swirled within his head and
flashes of death flickered in his eyes but then, the thoughts drifted away and
his body took over to complete his calling.
Within the melee a burning, stinging and stinking globulous stream burst forth
from the air just near an enormous but spindly horned demon. Several steaming,
hissing streams gushed his direction. As deftly as a giant sized hoofed
warrior could, he dodged, but it wasn't enough. Some sickly, yellow and green
tinted, black specked, acid covered his left horn, barely missing his bovine
snout and ear. The smell was atrocious and the steam of the dissolving horn
stung both his eyes and snout as the putrid mist entered his nostrils.
Unleashing slashing stroke after stroke, he fought through the night, a furious
furry wrath of leather and metal. Overhead and around his back, his gleaming
mithril voulge struck out at all enemies. Soon they began falling, one after
the other, the conjurer laying in convulsions starred up in defeat before
murmuring one final word, he escaped. The bitter taste of blood lingered on
his tongue, a sting emanated from the left of his head and the shine of victory
rose within.
