Description
This once young drummer has been aged by the situation of life into a strong
and confident duergar. His elegant clothes are rich and dark, giving a minor
sense of royalty to his imperialistic armor that has been chosen and pieced
together for constant war. His dark-blue eyes match the sleekness of his
slicked black hair, neatly combed and tucked behind his ears. Stylish black
boots cover his feet and his hands are heavily gloved with thick black
leather - his right hand usually grasping his belt for posture or his weapon
for intimidation. His expression has hardened over time to a calculating
scowl of his environment, but a smirk or grin shows his humor isn't entirely
dead. Two lightened war maces are tied to his belt at the hips with leather
wrist straps, each swaying with his movement. Clean and bloodless, their
weight and build seems to be for something other than combat.

The timing of the Beat

Times had changed.
Ubosh the Black Poet had gained a reputation amongst the taverns for his
music, the Empress was asking for him for more, and his weapon began to sing
with the souls in anguish. He had even gained the eye of the Dark voice, a
gift indeed. It was indeed the beginning to a legacy, his musical
interpretations would be remembered.
But it wasn't enough, he always wanted more. The Beat had echoed in his ears
but he wanted it to roar. His works would continue, his drumming lesson
giving to those who denied the oath. The Blacks would grow, his weapon would
feed, and he would feast in his own glory.
Indeed, Times had changed.
Summary of Ubosh

Ubosh chose his place in the Beat using dark magic to aid his musical
chorus...to destroy the annoying ballads of nature - a violin to his drum,
the clash must be silenced. The echoes of civilization will be his to create,
over the deafening end of nature's call. Once souls reside within his reach,
they will sing in his number - an unholy choir to do his bidding.
Ironically, Ubosh has chosen to follow the Beat to a god most would consider
his enemy. The hater of magic, Lord Kastellyn is his counter beat - something
that cannot be silenced but must be embraced for his tribal beats echo in his
soul. The poetry with no words, the legends of music....it was an odd fit,
but the Beat made no mistakes - it was greatest he seeked and all, even those
of magic, would become quiet before him.
Ubosh usually finds himself alone, sometimes even oblivious to the world as
the Beat directs him. His intellect is hidden in direct statements, not
wishing to waste his time speaking when he could be listening.
The Interview

"Ya....I never thought much of it. The Beat overtakes you - it's the beat of
every heartbeat, every weapon blow, every thought, and every event in life.
It flows through the air, it rumbles through the earth, and it rings in every
ear. It's more than magic, more than the divine, more than pure power - for
without the Beat there is nothing. You can't avoid it no matter how hard you
try. You accept it or there is death." The interviewer of the Inn tries to
chuckle off the ominous darkness in Ubosh's voice, but Ubosh doesn't seem to
even be listening.
"The crack of every whip, the bash of every hammer, the tick of each clock
second - the Beat is the gift of Civilization. There is no...'song' or
lyrics, only varying levels of intensity. I can feel it now....dun-dun-tuka-tuka...
dun-tukatuka-dun-dun-dun...." Ubosh closes his eyes and slowly taps with
hands on the table. Nervously laughing as he tries to get in some sort of
question, he asks Ubosh where he became so educated and gifted.
"My father showed me the Beat and it became my teacher and my life. As a
student of all music, you learn the intricacies from listening...you learn to
project from the religion fanatics, you learn to annunciate from the
professors, and learn wisdom from the monks. Only in leaving Aran'gird did I
hear the world's beat. Even bartenders have some use..." Ubosh stops rapping
his beat to stare into the eyes of the interviewer. "Interview is over - I
can hear the beat of your unbelief and you luckily will live for such
disrespect only if for your position." Ubosh waves off the stunned
interviewer with his hand as he closes his eyes and continues to enjoy the
Beat.
The Beat

"UBOSH....UBOSH.....UBOSH...."
The duergar army roared louder with each chant, growing restless in
anticipation. Stomping in unison, the cavern walls shook dangerously until
the moment a small duergar emerged from the tunnels with the scowling
generals stalking behind him. Cheers broke out as this little duergar raised
up two light maces in response to his adoring crowd. Ubosh was no
extraordinary soldier or royalty among the clans, but his fame had grown
since his first day on the campaign assault - for his music. Ubosh was a war
drummer gifted like no other....rumors ran through the masses saying he could
hear the heartbeat of his enemy and kill them with a perfect counter beat.
Born into the world of music from his father who drummed before him, his
skill was uncanny but he had gone unnoticed until a few weeks ago....the drow
had been holed up against the duergar protected by a strong archmage. The
generals were stuck but it was Ubosh who saved the day - recklessly standing
in front of the army, a beat rose from his drums that echoed louder and
louder with each verse. Grabbing the attention of everyone immediately, the
synchronized strokes caused a deafening ballad that broke loose the cavern
ceiling right on top of the drow killing them all instantly. He was famous
from then on - perhaps too much for the generals to accept....but he didn't
care for "the Beat" was all the mattered. He placed his earplugs in and
closed his eyes as he began...
