Description

A hulking giant stands here, spiraling ebon flame cloaking his body with crackling malevolence. Blood is EVERYWHERE on this giant. On his mismatched armors. On the various weapons he has near his hands. On his face, and what little darkened skin you can see. A mischevious glint in his eye, and a morbid grin on his face. Is this monster or man?

Deep within the fires of Kiadana lie legends kept within the fire
giant community for ages. One such legend is of the Kara'Tun.
Born out of the time after magic was introduced to the giants, these...
creatures were giant/magic hybrids. Born of the fierce One Law
fearing warriors and anti-paladins chosen for their strength above
all. Born were these...Abominations on one fateful night.

These Kara'Tun were said to be made of eternal fire, their blood
consisting of magic and molten lava. Whether or not these legends
were rooted in actual fact remains to be seen, though there have
been "sightings".

The final, most cryptic part of the legend deals with what these beasts
were created for. Namely, the destruction of all races that would not
their strength, and nowhere was that strength more embodied than
in the Kara'Tun.

Dark tidings. A sighting.

A thin elf sat in his chambers, a worried frown on his face.
Occasionally shooting furtive glances towards the window to his
left, he drummed his delicate fingers on a recently unrolled
scroll resting on his desk.

To my dearest father,
This settlement is at odds with its' self. I fear for sister's life.
Of recent, a massive bestial creature has been ravaging the Inn where
I spend the majority of my time. I have sent word to the commander
of the guard, a true giant, but as of yet I have not seen a larger
watch. This...creature, father. It is EVIL. It merely exists to
kill. I have seen him slay a dancer in cold blood, then strip her
corpse of its' belongings. It was...horrible. If I do not
write you back, I fear it will be already too late. Give my sister
my love and best.

And our story gets thrown for a loop!

Within the village of Lallenyha, there lays a young boy who has
had a horrendous malady inflicted upon him. Day and night, the
villagers say their prayers to Iunna, or Shokai, or even wealthy
prayers to Qaledus. Day and night, his status does not change.
'Horrible' is what they say. 'What poor luck this poor boy has',
some mutter. All feel pity for the small, comatose boy. But the boy
is not what he seems. For atop his forehead rests a strange
circlet, grafted there during the horrible accident that struck the
the boy so. And a strange circlet it is.

The boy was a local who had the misfortune of being orphaned
one day to a party of marauders. The boy weep many times after
that, cursing the Heavens for their callousness. The boy was not
particularly smart, nor large. Just an average boy, without a family.
Different times during the year, he would spend in the wilderness,
escaping the other children who picked on him, called him
'Hilly no-Folks' as a cruel twist on his plight. It was during these
sojourns that the boy would cry, and sob himself into a catatonic
like state.

One day when the boy was thirteen circles, he stumbled onto
something he shouldn't have. A strange circlet. A powerful artifact?
The boy did not know. He know he loved the thing, loved
its' facets, loved its' gaudiness, loved that it was HIS. So
covet did he, that he told no one of this object, and for that silence
he paid. He paid dearly.

A truth of sorts.

Most of the Theran legends are based on facts. Sometimes these
are faithful recreations, sometimes not. The Legend of the
Kara'Tun is an interesting story, but almost entirely minotaur
refuse. The truth of the matter the Kara'Tun were fools, and
used by some Dark God as a lesson in power and fear.

The first of the Kara'Tun came from the guild of the Anti-Paladins
and was mean. Real mean. But in the end, he became a bracelet.
The next Kara'Tun was one of the most zealous of priests. He
was fortunate to become at least a scepter. The third Kara'Tun was
Ugganamesh.

Ugganamesh was not the greatest Anti-Paladin in the history
of the guild and the Fire Giant's association, that's for sure.
Never one to truly grasp the mechanical nature of spell-casting
Ugganamesh was merely in it for as he put it, "The sweet rod
action". Once contacted by the shadowy Dark Lord, he went into
the process of the Kara'Zheer with full intentions of laying
waste to everything and everyone the moment he was infused
with the powers he was promised. But like all evil plans, this
deal was as shady as your favorite corner of the Eternal
Star. And so, after some stuff, really really evil stuff,
Ugganamesh felt his soul being leeched from his body. He
saw his once rippling frame collapse into a husk, a shell.
And he was trapped. Trapped forever within this...circlet.
He was betrayed. He was angry. He was...stuck.

Ah! More secrets revealed!

You happen upon a conversation that has already begun.

"So, what do you think we could trick them into doing?"
A deeper, more resonant voice answered the higher-pitched question,
in tones most reserved for casual conversation.
"Could do much anything. Them desperate for power."
"But who could we pin this on, and no, Fred will not work."
A slight chuckle was met with this response.
"Shokai?"
"They would NEVER believe it. I've pulled some moves, but never
against him...Zulghinlour maybe?"
The massive one-armed figure snorted.
"Him silent recently. Thinking him ready do something."
"So, the Flaming Crown?"
"What bout Demon Goddess. At least if her eat them, could laugh."
The large disfigured creature began to laugh, a strange, horrific
sound. The tiny creature that seemed to constantly be moving, and
with a strange staff at that, laughed as well.
"So it's settled. I have the perfect plan to trick them."

And with that, the two conspirators laughed, and discussed their evil
plans in detail.

Ugganamesh, his own words.

A massive figure stands before you, seemingly talking to himself.

"Will finally tell you truth boy. Tell you more than wish to
hear, probably. You think can stand?"
The giant seems to shiver for a moment as he speaks with a oddly
high-pitched voice for a moment.
'Yes. I suppose I am.'
The giant stops, growling for a moment, before beginning his tale.

So one day, after killed this elf, hear this voice in head. It calling,
whispering about power. Naturally intrigued, wanted power. So
listened to voice and began heed instructions. Met with others. Others
heard voice in minds like Ugganamesh. Others of giant ancestry we
came to the shores of large lake in mountains. There we met
being...'Creator' that Kara'Tun speak of much. It tell us its'
plan. Plan give us power, make generals for coming army. Naturally,
as say before, want more power, so yuh, listen. Think good idea.
It promise us eternal life in exchange servitude. Now that think,
would maybe listen more what Creator say, instead dream of
destruction could do with power. Now know him trick. But, was
greedy, will not apologize. Am what am.
So him tell whut him wish to give power. Need kill many. Drag
corpse hollow pit. Dere altar at edge of pit, but always cloaked
in shadows. Not even brightest light able shine. Something
there tuh. All mountains around feel cold after dump enough
bodies. Finally, when last of tasks done, went to place
Creator said him gives power. When arrive, only other
Kara'Tun there, and these armors. Saw circlet liked...

Right there the voice halts mid-sentence, and changes in pitch.
'I know! I was drawn to it too!'
A frustrated frown appears on the giant's face momentarily.

Yuh, it is enchanted, thinks. So grabs, en when grabs, feels
Creator's voice in mind. Keep seeing beetle when feel
voice tuh, en beetles everywhere, like in crypt. So couple
other Kara'Tun start screaming out tuh Demon Goddess. Not
sure why, then feel power. POWER! Like never felt before.
Feel like body on FIRE. Was good. Then real real bad.
Hear Creator's laugh in head. Here chanting in background
then see beetles all around turn into shadows, and consume.

The giant shivers, before finishing.
Last thing remember before boy touch mind, was smell of
sulphur, and mocking voice of Creator.
