Description
This half-drow appears cloaked in a soft, hooded black robe which conceals
most of his appearance. A thin rope of dull gray is tied around his waist and
from this hangs a small, crushed black velvet bag. This man has the palpable
stench of death upon him. His face is an ashen gray in appearance, with
soulless black eyes and thin, night black eyebrows. He is not possessed of
the sinister beauty of the dark-elves, and his face appears gaunt and almost
shriveled. His body is thin, wiry muscle, and his slender fingers seem able
to gesture in the most complex of arcane patterns.
Role
Character Background
Added Wed Jan 12 00:15:36 2011 at level 1:
Uhariz was born, or rather 'bred' by his father, an older human invoker of
some middling power, and a dark-elven female slave, purported by her seller
to have fine intellect and fighting prowess. Time passed and the dark-elven
woman sat, alone in a magically contained prison, waiting for something to
happen. Uhariz's father had been researching an ancient spell said to exist
in the Underdark. This spell was known as Bloodlast, a spell said to be able
to impart some of the caster's knowledge into their descendants, and in turn
bind these descendants to the caster with unwavering loyalty. However the
primary result of this spell was that the caster would also grow younger
significantly, with each casting. This spell was rumored to have been
developed centuries ago in the Lower Underdark, by an archmage of a
long-forgotten dark-elven empire, and came with a terrible price of 8
innocent souls claimed with dark magic. It had taken years of research to
identify this spell, but Uhariz's father had found a mage rumored to have
such knowledge. A family fortune and a decade later, Uhariz's father, Oluthul
the Gray, as he had been known when younger, had finally come to acquire the
spell, and the means to perform it.
What Oluthul did not know was that the 'slave' he had 'purchased' was in fact
an assassin, sent by a rival mage who sought the spell for herself. Playing
the part, the assassin waited, biding her time for just the right moment when
she might claim her captor's life. Oluthul began his nine month ritual on the
1st of the month of Dark Shades. Despite the protections upon her, his
captive was no match for Oluthul's magic and the process was begun
forcefully. Time passed and on the first of the Month of the Shadows, Oluthul
sacrificed a human female to fuel his magic, even as his captive had begun
whittling away at the magical bonds that bound her. She could feel something
more than magic taking hold inside. The first of the Month of Long Shadows, a
terrible word of arcane power was uttered by Oluthul, shaking the very ground
even as the weave bent to his will and claimed the soul of an elven maiden.
Elsewhere, his captive had now begun to gather her strength and study her
captor for a time to strike. Oluthul was not seen again until the first of
the Month of the Ancient Darkness. His captive had begun to show evidence
that a child was undoubtedly growing within and she was conflicted as to her
course. Uhariz's mother had prepared her plan, and sought only an opportunity
for it to coalesce until this...complication. In a distant room, as dark
words of power tore the soul from a storm giant captive, Oluthul knew he was
one step closer to that which he sought.
Character Background Continued
Added Wed Jan 12 00:17:42 2011 at level 1:
Lusting for the fleeting youth which was so close to his grasp, Oluthul for
all his magical skills, was blind to the reality of his slave. A human, he
lacked the true depth of foresight to prepare for such an eventuality. For
the rest of the month Oluthul prepared his magic. Oluthul had made
arrangements with his minions to execute the child once the baby was born and
the spell was complete. The child's birth itself would claim the life of it's
mother, should the spell The child was an unnecessary byproduct of the
casting. Only youth mattered, and with it, power. On the first of the Month
of the Great Evil, Uhariz's mother, the assassin Sindriindinia, was found to
be missing from her prison, much to the fury of Oluthul. Feeling the child
within her, Sindriindinia had made her way deep into the Underdark, knowing
that she could not move with the grace and skill she had once been able to.
She returned to her cadre of assassins in shame, only to deliver the child
Uhariz a natural time later. In this time, Oluthul had begun executing his
enemies, real and perceived, for their disruption of the magic which had cost
him so greatly. When Oluthul returned to his sanctum, bloodied from
spell-battle with a rival, he was too lost in anger to even see
Sindriindinia, as silent as death, float down from the ceiling to slice his
throat from ear to ear. Much to her demise, she too was too lost in revenge
to hear the telltale sound of her employer, stepping from another dimension
to destroy her bones from within. As Sindriindinia's blood pooled on the
ground and her life fled this world, she wondered...what would become of the
child who had cost the lives of both parents?
Search for a Mentor
Added Thu Feb 3 10:00:41 2011 at level 29:
Uhariz has begun to search for a Master Necromancer to teach him more of his
art. He has heard rumors of one beneath Hamsah, and one deep in a church of
Arboria. Unsure of which would help his quest to gain more knowledge, Uhariz
has begun asking the guildmasters and even offered a prayer to the gods to
help him find a mentor. Always lusting for new knowledge, Uhariz knows he
cannot obtain all that he needs alone, with his limited lifespan. He seeks to
either prolong his lifespan, or seek out one who can help him wade through
the un-important things and concentrate on learning more of Necromancy.
Motivation
Added Tue Feb 8 18:34:20 2011 at level 40:
Uhariz has currently not decided on a cabal, choosing instead to focus on
advancement in his guild and with his Art. He is not ruling out the Tribunal,
given his talks with some of their members, and he is not ruling out Scion,
being very intrigued after some of his talks with Shydraugh. Jerrokrar has
asked if he were to help Uhariz ascend to his pinnacle, would Uhariz take the
oath. Uhariz responded by stating that when Jerrokrar was War Master, to ask
again. Perhaps in some of the darker corners of his mind, Uhariz is hoping
for the return of a cabal only for mages, akin to the Masters of old.
A consummate student of knowledge, Uhariz is not the typical guildmember
obsessed with killing for the mere thrill. He practices his magic at every
opportunity, being particularly intrigued by the animation of the dead and
with servitor minions. He has managed to raise storm giant lieutenants and
the like, and is ready to try for even stronger zombies once he has gained
the apex of his guild.
Uhariz will unquestionably seek unlife as soon as possible. While he
understands that the true masters of his guild are always liches, he knows
that it will take the favor of a cabal or a god, and that he cannot
accomplish this currently, being without formal ties to a cabal, and lacking
any patron deity he would call upon. For this reason he has sought an
immortal mentor to apprentice beneath so that he might learn more of the
magic necessary to achieve unlife, be it beneath Hamsah, or deep within the
Arborian church.
The Coven
Added Wed Feb 16 14:22:20 2011 at level 46:
Uhariz had searched long and far, and found few magi worthy of being
apprentice to. The different cabals of the lands were filled with idiots, and
led by those who were neither feared, or respected. Uhariz knew he needed
someone to learn from, stronger than he with knowledge. His studies found
archmages in not oft-traveled places like Thar-Acacia, and some others.
However, all he read spoke of the greatest of mages not often being seen in
the lands. In his research, Uhariz had found that the Coven, a group of mages
spoken in whispers, was rumored to have powers beyond most. History had
documented a recent fight they had in Hamsah, and Uhariz had found their
powers to be rumored to be great. Shrouded in secrecy, Uhariz knew then that
these were the magi he sought. Unconcerned with glory or fame, and achieving
only mastery over their Art. Uhariz knew this band had the knowledge he
sought, and the only question that remained was "Would they share this
knowledge?".
Meeting Davarrah
Added Wed Feb 16 14:23:28 2011 at level 46:
Uhariz closed the musty tome with satisfaction. It was decided. The Coven
would be who he sought for wisdom. He was certain of this. Gathering his
undead minions in a protective circle, Uhariz prepared a magical sending that
he knew would reach the Coven's ears. He knew the Coven heard all that was
spoken, that they wished to. He beseeched the Coven, inquiring if Xaelobran
had use for a pupil, as Faruq was rumored to be an apprentice of Kaubris.
Standing, he knew they had heard the sending, and re-affirmed his own belief
in such out loud.
It did not take long for him to be proven right. A woman, her face hidden in
shadow, tall and slender, with long white hair, shuffled slowly into the
guild, causing even the guildmaster to step back defensively. Uhariz motioned
for his minions to move aside, breaking their normal defensive ward around
him. Excitement on several levels raced through Uhariz's veins. He listened
much to Davarrah's words, trying to glean some wisdom from them. She
confirmed that he would be unable to visit the cleric within Arboria without
some sort of Patron, be it godly or otherwise, and suggested to Uhariz that
perhaps the Conservator was a wiser choice for him, given his lack of
patience. Uhariz agreed readily, having already sensed this himself. Pressing
her, he offered his services as an apprentice and was rebuffed. Uhariz
accepted this willingly, pleased to still be living after the meeting with a
magi of such power.
Uhariz made a mental note to prove himself worthy of this position in the
future, even if it took much of his life or unlife to achieve. Perhaps the
Coven had knowledge they would make known to him. Perhaps he would prove
worthy of learning this knowledge. Perhaps.
Uhariz would seek out the Conservator when the time was right.
Recent Events
Added Sat Feb 19 23:14:28 2011 at level 46:
Uhariz tapped a slender, crooked finger against the head of the corpse at his
feet. With a sudden twitch, dark unlife flowed into the storm giant corpse,
and it clamored slowly to its feet to look at Uhariz lifelessly, awaiting an
order. Uhariz looked at the golem, and his mind drifted to recent events.
The God of Magic, Twist himself, had allowed Uhariz to bear witness to a
ritual of unknown importance. The knowledge he had gleaned from the event
stirred unknown excitement in his veins. He was no student of magic
specifically, but Uhariz was a student of knowledge, primarily magical
knowledge. He bore Twist more devotion than he did any other god of the
lands. To be in the presence of the God of Magic himself was humbling. A
being who had could recite spells than Uhariz had never read of. Undoubtedly
magic from the Dawning Ages and other times, bits of lore long forgotten by
Archwizards of ancient days, the things Uhariz could learn from Twist were
nigh limitless. The idea that Uhariz could play a part, however small, in the
magic Twist was working was soul stirring, to say the least. He vowed to
prove Twist's faith in him was not ill placed.
Thoughts of Dark Magic
Added Fri Apr 1 22:06:07 2011 at level 46:
A gentle hush fell over the gloom-filled tavern as Uhariz entered
soundlessly, cloaked in vile magic and surrounded by a small army of the
unliving. Scanning the room quickly before noticing his dark-elven contact,
Uhariz motioned for his minions to form a defensive position guarding the
door to a back room. Uhariz beckoned his contact closer and closed the door
with a wave of his hand. Conversation immediately returned to the tavern.
"You have the information I seek?" Uhariz queried the dark-elf in front of
him. With a quick nod, the spy confirmed that he had been successful. The
flesh golem at Uhariz's side handed the dark-elf a fist-sized sphere of dark
black diamond, etched with runes. With a nod the dark-elf slipped a tome of
beaten shadow dragon scales to Uhariz across the table. Snatching the tome up
quickly, Uhariz quickly verified it's authenticity. Real indeed, this tome
could perhaps guide Uhariz on the path to learning Shadow Magic.
Uhariz looked up at the dark-elf across the table and raised an eyebrow. "Why
are you still here, Ilsoth?". The dark-elf glanced to the flesh golem and
then back to Uhariz. "There is more, dark one.", Ilsoth began, "In the few
days I have had that book, shadows have looked deeper." Ilsoth continued, "I
am at home in their darkness, but what I have found in the shadows of late is
something I can't explain, flickers of movement out of the corner of my eye,
odd black shapes that seem to watch me but are never there when I investigate
further"
Uhariz looked Ilsoth over closely, unsure of how to proceed. "Are you losing
your edge, assassin?" he questioned. Ilsoth shook his head before speaking
again. "That book draws some sort of creatures to it, dark one, I am certain
of it. They are neither of this plane or of flesh and blood. They watch any
who would learn what is in that book, even if you cannot see them."
Uhariz closed the book slowly and allowed a long, weary breath to escape his
lips before he crooked a finger at Ilsoth and uttered a vile word, sucking
the life right from Ilsoth in a single, powerful word.
"Perhaps some secrets are best taken to the grave" Uhariz mused aloud. He
slipped the tome which was rumored to help one manipulate the thoughts of the
sleeping into the soft velvet bag on his hip. The tome had come from a priest
of Kastellyn, and was rumored to have been hidden since that god's battles
against one known as "The corrupted".
Uhariz began to get the feeling that perhaps these beings known as the
ccul'gra deserved a closer look, even if their current mortal allies seemed
incompetent.
Current Motivations
Added Sat Apr 16 23:47:17 2011 at level 46:
Uhariz has spoken with several of the Chasm and none were very forthcoming
with information about the greater ccul'gra, even the Advisor to the
Chancellor. Providing a few items of middling power to the younger
necromancer, Uhariz thought perhaps in time they might share information with
one not of their ranks. Uhariz has no intentions of joining the Scions,
merely wishing to learn more of their allies and the magic they command. He
is curious why he has yet to hear from Lord Twist, hoping that the God of
Magic once more has need of his services.
