Description
A rather squat being stands before you. Seemingly male, the frame makes it
a bit difficult to be sure. Looking a bit longer, yes, definitely male.
His stature is not short - no, quite the opposite, he stands a great deal
taller than any human, but he is clearly a fire giant, and rather...compact
for one of those. His sturdy frame does not lack for muscle, however.
Tufts of orange hair, thick enough to resemble fur, stick out in the few
gaps of his armor. His skin, where not covered by the hair, is black as a
patch of cooling lava.
You note that his armor is very well kept. No rust on the weaponry, no dirt
left unwashed on the armor. It is worn, however. This is not the shiny armor
of some nobleman who has never known combat. It is the gear of an experienced
and orderly warrior.
Role
Not a complete idiot

"Ulthrok born wit' Imperial blood in veins. Parents members of Imperial
guard. Dem killed by Fortmen when Ulthrok much young. Ulthrok taken for
training, make be Imperial Blade. But still sent to Academy, had prove
self as worthy to be true Citizen. Live to serve Blade Sect, Emperor, Dark
Destuvius."
This is the story that Ulthrok tells anyone who asks. And it is all
completely true. It is not, however, the full story.
Ulthrok was not *only* trained to become a Blade. He was also trained by
a secret group within the Imperial ranks. Made up of members from all
sects, the role of this group is to make certain that the Empire remains
loyal to the one true Dark Lord, Destuvius.
Ulthrok's charge is simple - do what he would do in any normal circumstance
as a Blade serving the Empire...but watch. Much like the Shadow Sect watches,
but even more clandestine. Everyone knows that the Shadow Sect watches, keeps
secrets, and the like. But people will tell a dumb giant things that would
not normally be discussed.
And Ulthrok will keep up the dumb giant act, all the while making note of
any who might have the interests of those outside the Empire...outside
Lord Destuvius' Empire.
First potential disloyalty

Ulthrok was having a rough patch. Beset by Fortmen at every turn, he was
somehow managing to keep them from taking the Codex. Then, Nnasheli made his
presence known, and the tables turned. The Maran fell in various ways,
with Ulthrok lending a hammer to the skull of each of them in turn.
The battles done for a time, the invoker spoke privately to Ulthrok - but
in error - in truth, the conversation was meant for the Maran themselves:
Nhasheli tells you 'I welcome your regard. I do declare, my goal is not the imperial conquest.
But I am willing to meet any means to please the Prince and his rewards of uniting my houses.'
Ulthrok's response was as he had been trained. Feign complete ignorance:
"Dat many big words."
The Citizen made excuses and the like, as one would expect:
Nhasheli says 'Sotis and the others bow at my presence. Rewarding me with words of praise.
Do not worry though, Blade. I am aware of my deal with the Empire. And my place.'
Ulthrok's response kept the same pattern:
"You Imperial Citizen. Smash good. Emperor seem like. Dat all Ulthrok need worry 'bout."
Just one note in the notebook, for now.

Ulthrok has noticed that many of those who hold power in the current political structure
within the Empire bear the Mark of Satan. This is a concern to the giant. Any in power who
do not make fealty to Lord Destuvius first and foremost have the potential to erode the
Faith in His Lordship. Most everyone so Mark'd, however, seems to have the best interests
of the Empire at heart. And none have called Ulthrok down for praising Lord Destuvius, which
he does, loudly and frequently.
For now, he watches, and waits. Perhaps another trip through the Inferno
will come. Perhaps Ulthrok will be part of it. And perhaps, just perhaps,
Ulthrok will come to stand before the Prince of Darkness himself, and be
offered the chance to serve The Lord of Hell.
And Ulthrok will answer: "No."
The Meeting
Added Mon Apr 20 21:30:32 2015 at level 51:
Kregan, Sindrir, Celent, Birtoc, Nhasheli - Satan's mark
Zhabala - Belial's mark
These tallys are troubling to Ulthrok. He fears the influence of the Inferno
may play too strong a role in Lord Destuvius' Empire.
And so he was making notes whilst praying for his Lord when suddenly the object
of his devotion appeared. Ulthrok reported his findings immediately, and was
given a challenge:
Destuvius says 'I wish you to remind Nhasheli of his servitude.'
Destuvius says 'Preferably in the face of the council, and the Emperor.'
Destuvius says 'Think on the matter, find his true ambition. Then exploit it.'
To that end, his Lord gave him a coin with his seal upon it. Ulthrok is to use
this if his ways go challenged:
Destuvius says calmly 'Let any know that if they challenge your action, they challenge me.'
Armed with this token and a mission, Ulthrok strides forth from his Lord's shrine.
A Sacrifice, perhaps?

The weapon of the Elite Black, Celent, combined with the rumors that Ulthrok
had heard from his fellow Blade Sindrir, made Ulthrok a bit nervous.
The rumors are vague at best - a plot to overthrow Emperor Xeneth. Coming perhaps
from the Divine or Black Sect.
Couple this with the fact that Celent is one of many who seem to worship
the Prince of Hell rather than Lord Destuvius...
A desperate act may be required in service to the Greater Good of Lord
Destuvius' Empire.
Perhaps, if the opportunity presents itself....
Impressions of Nhasheli
Added Sun Apr 26 00:43:27 2015 at level 51:
Ulthrok has interviewed Citizen Nhasheli personally, as well as discussing him
with many prominent Imperials, to discern Nhasheli's true purpose in life and
whether he may pose a threat to Lord Destuvius' Empire.
Sindrir: Feels Nhasheli serves the Throne well and has good intentions.
Khalmarnasa: Has heard the same story (as Ulthrok) of a split house (and desire to reunite them).
Kregan: Has proved his worth time and time again. Shows proper deference to her as War
Master, and has saved her life at risk to his own countless times.
Yaztran: Feels Nhasheli sets a good example for Citizens with no Sect to call home.
Birtoc: Believes Nhasheli is attracted to the Power of the Empire.
Celent: Does not trust Nhasheli, because he cannot figure him out.
Ulcia: Nhasheli is dressed finely, so perhaps motivated by Greed and serving Order?
Ulthrok's own belief is that Nhasheli is being relatively truthful in
saying that he serves the Throne loyally and has only a desire to see
his two families reunited. Largely because Nhasheli has been part of
many extravagant feats, and is very well treated, under Emperor Xeneth.
As to how to turn this to his own advantage...well, we shall see.
Enlilth?
Added Mon Apr 27 21:38:21 2015 at level 51:
Rumors swirl of an appearance in the skies of another of the Dark Gods of Empire,
Enlilth. Ulthrok had thought him a myth. Troubling.
Does this new figure pose a threat to Lord Destuvius? Will there be priests of
the Voice of Tyranny, spreading across the land?
Ulthrok will have none of it. Any God, though, must be shown respect, even
hated ones such as Baerinika, Strienat, or Avderlain. One of the Dark Lords
of Empire? He will require more than respect. Ulthrok will kneel when the time
comes, all the while praising Lord Destuvius in mind, if not aloud.
