Description
The long gray hair tumbling down this dwarf's head seems to suggest years
beyond the youth you see in his face. Somewhat stocky by human standards, but
thinner by dwarven ones, he could almost pass for a short man with a long
flowing beard. A pair of sapphire eyes flecked with gold mark his face and
his light skin is mostly unmarked, except a long scar that crosses his flat
nose. He seems somewhat ill at ease in his own skin however, but otherwise
seems rather plain.
Role
Beginnings.

"Not bad, but yer gonna ave to o better Ursetra." The dwarf's gruff voice had
a calm tone to it, without a hint of any agitation at her failure. Ursetra
nodded back to her father. Learning the forge was a time honored tradition
among her family, and she was expected to continue that.
"Any ideas what ah did wrong father?"
The old dwarf looked over the blade and with little effort snapped it over
his knee. "Bein too brittle, thinking yah got the mixtures wrong, er mebbe
you didn't fold the metel enough. Not a bad first effort though, but yer will
get the hang ah it in time. Takes a proper balance of all the aspects tah be
makin a perfect blade, the ore, the carbon, the level ah heat and hammer
strikes."
Ursetra nodded again to her father. "Guessin ah was a bit off, but ah'll get
it right next time and forge the best blade Thera ever seen."
Her father just smild at her. "Mebbe so, but ah doubt it. Ah ain't yet seen a
perfect blade forged in me years, doubt any ah us Soulforges ever have. The
right balance be impossible to get fer most any one trying the hand at
smithin, but we be doin the best we can to get it right close as we can and
ain't many can say they do it better den us."
Ursetra smiled at her gray haired father. "Mebbe ah'll be the first father."
At that her ather smiled warmly back at her. "Ah'd ope fer nothin less fer
yah little un."
And with that Ursetra took another block of mithril and began the process of
crafting a blade from it. There was no time like the present to continue
bettering her craft.
A Balanced Path.

Thera proved to be a far different place than the small village Ursetra had
grown up in. She intended to see the world, to learn all she could of the art
of forging so she could bring it back and make her father proud. She had read
of all the different races, but had encountered few in her youth as her
vilage primarily traded with other dwarves. To see them all walking freely
among one another was almost a shock to her, but in time it made sense. They
all played a part, and lived best they could, hoping to achieve whatever
goals they might have.
Divese and complex, she learned you could not judge any on the outside, that
appearances deceived. Just as a fine blade might appear sturdy, til it is
used you'll never know it's worth, and it just might shatter when you need it
most to hold. A perfect blade was perfectly balanced, and so she began to see
that Thera was much the same, balance needed to exist for harmony in Thera.
It was for that reason she had sought out those who dedicated themselves to
keeping such balance in the lands. She had learned of their cause sitting in
a rather lively inn known as the Eternal Star, listening to what other spoke
about. They had a cause, a purpose, but a freedom outside it. When the world
was balanced, they were at peace. And so they fought to ensure that peace
remained for all. It would be in those times of peace she could learn, she
could study, she could perfect her craft at the forge. And when called to it,
she would fight. She knew to master sword smithing, one must master their
use, to understand what a blade ought be and how it can be used.
To perfect the art of forging, one had to perfect the use of that which one
intended to create. A balance between theory and reality. When she went home
again, she would speak on these things with her father, but for now, it was
for her to make her own path, to balance the teaching with experience.
A forger first

Life as a Seeker of Balance had been a natural choice for Ursetra, so easily
did the concepts of forging translate into watching over Thera. She had been
a seeker a while now, though she was still first a forger of the Soulforge
clan and knew in her heart where her first love would always be. Her craft
had certainly improved, to the point she had even sent a few forged blades
back to her father, though the responses were always the same. "Not bad
Ursetra, but yer could be doin better." She could almost hear her father's
gruff voice as she read the curt responses.
Still, progress was being made, she could feel it with every swing of the
hammer. She felt the same about her place as a Seeker, the news of which her
father simply responded to by saying her life was her own to lead. She was
getting better, though at times her duty pained her, especially when it
brought conflict with fellow dwarves. She had made it clear to all she
begrudge no ill will to them, that she was pained by every swing she made
against her kin.
Still, she could not relent, she had sworn to uphold the way of balance, and
so she would, even when at times it was difficult. FOr it was in those times
she knew she was forging her own soul, making it all the stronger. That was
the need, the wish, the necessity, if she was to ever truly master the forge.
To hone her soul just as she honed her blades with each passing day. In the
end, she hoped, her efforts would be rewarded with perfection, for she would
accept no less of herself.
A change of circumstance.

The hike up the crags had drained her a little, and so she rested against a
rather large boulder. Ursetra glanced around the home of the arials, finding
it somewhat similar to her home in the mountains. Still, things were calm and
balanced, and so her time was her own. She took in a deep breath and got back
to her feet and resumed wandering the magnificent city. She found many shops
and people, sampling what the city had to offer.
Tucked away in a corner she saw an odd shop, run by who seemed to be an even
odder arial. Still, Ursetra wasn't a stranger to odd things in her times
roaming Thera, and so she went in. She found a few oddities, decided to
purchase a few even. For his part, the shopkeeper just kept quiet, providing
a potion and a few baskets of grapes to Ursetra. They seemed rather
expensive, but she had grown rather hungry in her travels and they looked
rather appetizing. She nodded to the shopkeeper as she left and walked out of
the store.
She absent mindedly plucked a few grapes from the bunch as she walked away,
tossing them into her mouth. As she bit into them and swallowed, an odd
feeling pulsed through her body. She staggered for a moment, as the feeling
swelled within her she fell to her knees, convulsing somewhat. Gritting her
teeh as she clenched her weapon, she tried to fight it off, but fell into
darkness.
A few moments later she woke up, shaking her head as she regained
consciousness. 'Wha in the ells was that" she muttered as she got to her
feet. Her head hurt, but she didn't immediately feel anything else wrong.
However. As she started to walk something felt different. Something was out
of place. Moreover, something else was in place. She glanced down, moving a
gruff hand there. She threw up almost instantly.
When she stopped heaving, she looked down and confirmed it once more. She was
no longer a woman. She glanced around, then thought back. The last thing she
had done. "FARG!" She looked at the grapes, but the thought of them turned
her stomach even more. It seemed now, for at least a little while, she would
have to adjust to being a he. Oddly enough, she wasn't sure many would notice
her change. Few non-dwarves could easily tell dwarven men from women, but
still. There was one dwarf she had admired for a while, Tolgrumm, the proud
Maran. She muttered again. "Fer now, ah may ave tah be altin me advances on
im, least til ah can get this fixed." She adjusted her newfound self, spit on
the groud, and walked off, a noticeable scowl on her face.
Changes Pt. 2

Whether he had stifled his amusement well Ursetra could not tell, but she
swore Tolgrumm smirked when she told him of her affliction. He claimed to
prefer her this way, if only because he claimed he felt bad having to raise
his fists against a dwarven lady. Ursetra had chuckled for a few moment with
Tolgrumm, lamenting in her mind that only since becoming a man had she really
ever gotten time to speak civilly with him. They parted ways soon after,
Ursetra more upset than ever that she had not cured the condition and how it
was impedeing her, but still somewhat happy that she had at least somewhat
befriended Tolgrumm. She knew it was time then, to work the forge once again,
even with her new body somethings still felt the same, and in forging she
still felt as she always had.
There was one person she had not told about her change yet though, and she
was not sure if she could. It had been not long since her true mastery of the
forge, and yet she had kept the news from her father. When she had sent back
a blade to him, one of the finest she had crafted, the usual response came
back. "Nah bad, could be better." She chortled. Better or worse, some things
were still the same. However, even with mastery, she had not attained
perfection with a blade. Something was still missing in the craft, something
was just not quite right. She had looked at each forged blade, and she was
not sure if it was due to her affliction, or due to some flaw in her
technique, but she saw slight imperfections in them all. Her father, in all
his wisdom, was right. She could still be better.
When Ursetra returned to the Island later in the day, covered in soot from
the forgework, most everyone was gone. One thing Ursetra had to laugh at
though as she walked the halls, she was a keeper of the balance, and she had
to admit, having known life as both man and woman was some sort of odd
balance in itself. "Course ah gonna change back first chance ah get, little
time bein fine, but ah'll be damned iffin ah gonna stay this way ferever."
She glanced around the empty halls of the Island, glancing at the shelves.
"Pity weren't nothin in dem about magics like dis." She settled down for a
rest, opening one eye to see the bartender across the room chortling
slightly. "Fargin bastard" she muttered under her breath as she drifted off.
