Description

Poised at the ready before you, standing roughly five feet tall is Vaez. His ebony beak and jet black feathering, which cover most of his body, remind you much of a Raven. You can see his sharp claws digging into the ground which he stands upon. Vaez's claws certainly give you the impression he is not afraid to throw his feet around in a fight. You also notice a dagger and some other devices of execution within his cloak before he quickly conceals them once again by swiping his cloak closer to his body.

Role

Redemption, at last.

Added Sat Aug 1 07:06:10 2009 at level 35:
Just days ago when I awoke from my rest, I came to notice that another
batch of young applicants had earned huts of their very own. These men
were strong, proud men who I am glad to call comrade.

Proud as I was for these fellows to have earned the honor, at this point
I'd been in quite a rut of bad luck. Seeing this third generation of new
blood being inducted into their huts filled me with a feeling of
discontent and deep self-doubt.

In a moment of disparity, I poured my heart out to the gods above.

Some hours later as I was just joining the two fellows who had just
received their huts, the visage of Our Lady Yean herself appeared before
the lot of us.

She'd come to see if I had it in me to defeat one of my comrades, these
true fine warriors of the village, to solidify my place amongst the
BattleRagers. Willing to do anything for this honor, I gladly accepted
the challenge.

After a crushing defeat against the first lad, and after a close and
difficult battle against the second, I'd done it.

I hadn't killed the man, but of course this was for demonstration and not
blood. Yean had now seen my battle prowess first hand and at last I'd
fulfilled my life goal.

I now had a hut to call my very own, to live on as a Berserker of the
Village.

Trial and Error.

Added Sat Aug 1 06:51:52 2009 at level 35:
Many years of my life flew by in what seemed like the blink of an eye.
All of this time I held the title of Village Applicant, with my one true
dream as having a hut of my very own.

At times I surely felt my faith falter. This faith that wavered, though,
was not my belief that magic would be the end of the world, but that the
leadership of the Village did not know the strength of will that I
possess.

It took me no time at all to acquire a sufficient number of
recommendations, in order to speak with the Drillmaster, Ghrummin. Before
too long he called myself and two other applicants to Tahren's hut, to
discuss our futures.

After some discussion, Ghrummin brought us all to the arena, to pit us
against one another. I fell to defeat that day, but not to opponents who
did not deserve their victories, for they were quite strong and their
blades sang true.

Ghrummin decided that at that point, I would have to prove myself further
before finding shelter in a hut of my own. Not to be discouraged, I
continued onward, finding more skulls for my belt.

This happened once more where I fell, in the arena, to the hands of
applicants who were elder to me. As before, Ghrummin (who now held the
title of Commander) told me that I would have to wait.

Each time was utter heartbreak. I'd spent the large majority of my life
honing each and every one of my skills to absolute perfection.

The one thing I truly wanted, was seeming to fall farther and farther out
of reach.

Speaking with the Divine.

Added Wed Jul 29 08:30:03 2009 at level 31:
Long ago I had heard stories of the divine Lord Daevryn. It seems as
though we share the same LUST for perfection and victory. After a bit of
searching, I happened upon his awe-inspiring mansion. This seemed to be
the home of a fellow I'd get along with quite well! I notified his giant
servant that I was seeking audience with the lord himself, to discuss his
religion and my potential place in it. It was seeming to me that with a
bit of his guidance, I could be walking the road of legends.

Sadly he never answered my prayers, even after multiple visits to his
massive home.

Months went by and I began to hear stories of a deity which I'd not heard
of: Lady Yean. What little I heard of her deeds, listening in on
chit-chat about town, had me quite curious to learn more of her. So I
began scouring the libraries of the lands and reading as much as I could
about her.

It didn't take long to realize that although it was LUST which drove me
towards perfecting the martial arts, it was indeed the perfect knowledge
of the arts which I was after. This is much as how Lady Yean and her
followers seek enlightenment through the passion of knowledge.

This was most intriguing to me, indeed! I immediately began my search for
her hut so I might speak with her about our curious similarities.

Upon finding her hut and stepping foot within, Lady Yean herself came
before me. This being my first time gazing upon divine flesh, and it also
being the great Lady which I'd just spent a good time reading about, I
was awe-struck and humbled.

I knelt down before here in a manner not-uncommon amongst martial artists
who wish to display respect.

She frowned at my actions and ordered that I never do such a thing in her
presence again. So grand, powerful, and yet still so humble!

I stood and we spoke for some time about my beliefs and what brought me
to her hut, as well as the basic tenants of her religion, all while
sipping upon the fine brew she had offered me.

I quickly came to find out that she would encourage me to fight in her
name, but because of the stars I was born under I was destined to never
be graced by her tattoo.

This fact was a bit disappointment, but nothing that would turn me away
from something which I felt such an immediate spark.

Now, admittedly I feel a bit torn. Our Lady Yean has shown me such
hospitality and grace, while originally it was my goal to speak with Lord
Daevryn for we seem as though we would get along as well.

I feel quite drawn to Yean, however, I feel it would be a disservice to
never speak with Daevryn. I shall once again seek him out before I fully
devote my heart and soul to a single divine being.

Self Confidence with a Side of Revenge.

Added Wed Jul 29 07:43:59 2009 at level 31:
Cuoco was aware of my distaste for our previous run-in so he was trying
to make it up to me when he told me he was about to fight Dyshelov right
outside of Galadon.

Against my better judgement, from my last attempt to help Cuoco, I headed
out the East gate of Galadon and engaged Dyshelov. Unfortunately for me,
and my pilfered equipment, the bastard managed to escape with a mere
thread of his life remaining.

Later that day, curious of my battle prowess, Cuoco challenged me to a
fight. Given my recent turn of bad luck, I was beginning to wonder about
my own skills, so I accepted the offer just to see.

The results of this "test" where conclusively depressing. Cuoco did away
with me without a scratch on his body to show for it. I was left baffled,
and wondering exactly what to do with myself.

Some weeks went by and it seemed as though my luck had turned for the
worst. It seemed as though death himself was my shadow, and every once in
a while he seemed the need to tap my shoulder with his icy finger of
doom.

Soon enough I was traveling with Cuoco, and once again he challenged me
to a duel. Since our last encounter I'd spent endless hours refining the
arts of the Kotegaeshi wrist break so I was feeling a bit more confident.
I boldly accepted his challenge and swiftly took his life, much to his
dismay.

Filled with hubris, he could not accept this fate, so Cuoco demanded a
rematch. The last battle was quite close so I decided to modify my
strategy. It occurred to me that his specialty was daggers, and would
likely be still quite ignorant of how to parry my punches. So, I put my
dagger away and took up my shield.

The fight began once again and I broke his wrist with no hesitation. Once
crippled, I through him to the ground and continued to control his
movement. Repeatedly he scrambled to his feet then found himself being
tossed about once again. When it was quite clear that I was dominating
him he fled the scene.

Since he had no hesitation to kill me during our first "duel," I did him
the same favor. I found him cowering at the Udgaard altar, and ended his
life once again.

For the first time in a long time I felt powerful. Once again I felt as
though my future held a hut for me amongst my people of the village.

Discrimination and Treachery.

Added Wed Jul 29 07:25:22 2009 at level 31:
It did not take long holding the title of 'Village Applicant' before it
had earned me some "attention."

I was relaxing and enjoying a conversation with the Guildmaster of the
Galadon Dojo when a fellow by the name of Cuoco contacted me.

"Out west gate is a mage. Come." he said to me, and off I went.

Upon just entering the Feanwyyn Weald I came upon Cuoco battling it out
with a conjurer by the name of Cyvaliox. The mage's air elemental was
blasting away at Cuoco with ferocious force, so quickly I did what I
could to its master.

The timing on my part was awful, to say the least. Just as I sprung
forth, thrusting my dagger into Cyvaliox, I felt myself become weaker to
magic. The endurance technique which I'd learned from my guild had just
failed me. At that very same moment, Cuoco also withdrew from battle.

So what I'd thought was to be me killing the conjurer to save Cuoco,
quickly turned into thrusting myself into the chilling grip of death.

In no time at all, the air elemental's blasts were directed in my
direction, savagely EVISCERATING me.

Just then, I heard quick footsteps from beside me and at the last
possible second I managed to step out of the way of Dyshelov's bashing
shoulder. I hadn't even noticed the dastardly dwarf standing there!

So what started as a rescue, turned into an ambush. Before I was able to
flee with my life, the air elemental put an end to it.

Upon returning to my sad, mangled body, I was horrified to see the
complete lack of respect which was demonstrated there. My corpse was
stripped completely of its belongings, and I mean not just the ones that
mattered. Even my knapsack which held the practice dagger I had been
awarded for my graduation from the academy. Surely nobody would have use
for it, but it was taken along with everything. What for? Spite.

With some work I was able to find replacements for all that I had lost,
although they were certainly not as good.

Some time later I was honing my skills within Arial city when out of
nowhere that bastard Dyshelov, wearing MY ARMOR, sent me across the room
with a thunderous bash. I did all that I could to escape but with the
arial already upon me, there was nothing I could do.

Originally I'd assumed that my armor had been stolen by Cuoco. It seemed
to me that he had set up a little trap for me. After seeing Dyshelov
sporting my duds, I finally knew otherwise.

Bloodied, at Last.

Added Wed Jul 29 01:59:06 2009 at level 31:
During the early days of my training, when I was still of quite low rank
within the Guild of Assassins, I toiled endlessly attempting to perfect
every skill I could before the gods would allow me as a combatant against
mortal foes.

When the time finally came, that I could finally slay my first magi, I
received a message from a friendly ranger named Tyrinalth who wanted
company in his travels. Quickly I found out he also traveled with a young
conjurer girl by the name of Vixia. At first the thought of traveling
with her brought uncontrollable nausea, then something occurred to me.

I'd heard of an entire village of people who shared my anti-magic
beliefs, and better yet it was considered all of their lives' work to end
all magic use within Thera! This idea excited me very much, but entry to
this village was not to be an easy task. Before even being considered for
application to the village, I found that one must spill the blood of the
arcane.

Although the concept of traveling with this conjurer girl made me quite
literally sick, I saw this as an opportunity to get close to those which
I hunt. So I agreed to travel with the two.

I fought along-side them for a bit until my instincts told me that the
time had come. Spinning to Vixia's side, I hooked her ankle with my foot
and kicked forward, bringing her to the ground. I thrusted quickly at her
gut with my dagger, and before long it was all over. The pathetic mage
girl laid before me in a pool of her own blood.

Seemingly shocked by my actions, the ranger Tyrinalth glared at me in
hatred. I was about to explain to him plainly about the corruption the
mage had committed herself to, but before I could speak he stepped back
into the woods then sprang at me from nowhere!

Tyrinalth stepped out from his cover and DISMEMBERED me with his surprise
attack! Swiftly with his practice sword, Tyrinalth separated my Dragon
Dagger from my hands and picked it up. Sadly for him, I was already quite
learned with my fists and I was not going to give any mercy, for that
dagger was a precious gift from an elder. After quite an exchange of
blows, I managed to rob the boy of his life with my bare hands.

Now he, too, lie in a lump of bludgeoned flesh at my feet. Quickly I
retrieved my dagger from his still-warm body, as well as some other armor
that would suit me well. If he thought it fine to take my dagger then I
was quite sure he'd understand my retaliatory thievery.

Quite proud of myself, immediately I visited Tahren, the BattleRagers'
Village Blacksmith. It was then that I pronounced my oath of allegiance
to the village and began down the long hard path to my hut.

There is much more to catch up on, however, I cannot afford the time to
sit here writing any longer. I must continue my training and defense of
the Village.

The Long Road Begins with a first Step.

Added Wed Jul 29 01:57:17 2009 at level 31:
Today shall always be known as the greatest day of my life: the day I
made the move into my hut within the Village. It has been quite some time
since I've written in this journal of mine, and quite frankly I'd
forgotten all about it. I found it high upon the shelf within the
Assassin Guild of Arial City, gathering dust.

Not long after beginning my training within the Udgaard Guild of
Assassins, I had grown to miss my family within the city of the clouds.
So, that was that: I saved my coins and moved back home. This time,
however, I would be coming and going from the city, not like when I was a
sheltered hatchling. Always traveling, and certainly always out to learn.

I came here, to the Arial City, to collect some belongings from the guild
to bring to my new hut. That is when I came to see this poor journal,
left alone and neglected.

How very long it has been! I've trained long and hard to perfect my
skills, I've found the Village of the Battleragers who actually share my
beliefs, and after what seemed to be an endless Application period I've
finally been inducted as a Berserker of the Village.

Now that I've returned to writing, I feel an obligation to record all
that I've been through up to this point, so it shall not be forgotten
when I pass.

The Beginnings

Added Mon Jul 13 19:15:03 2009 at level 3:
At last things are changing for me. Too many years spent being harassed
by the other hatchlings for my complete lack of interest in the arcane.
I'm a bit of a pariah in the community as a result. Most of the other
hatchlings spent their formative years fizzling away with their childish
attempts at becoming so called 'powerful magi.'

I feel as though ripping through the great veil to produce mystical
results is nothing short of selfish destruction of the natural order of
things: disgusting. This set me apart from the other young ones.

They'd all laugh at me as I was trying to find my place in the world.
They all would say how I shunned magic due to being a pathetic failure at
it, but nay, I just won't stoop down to being a lowly cheating trickster.

Recently it began to occur to me how my rare, raven-like, coloration made
me quite good at sneaking up on these little finger wiggling bastards,
especially at night. This is when I began to stalk them after dark, the
young magi.

I'd finally found what I do best. This is why I've just begun this
journal, my life is at quite a turning point. I just moved to away from
Arial City, so I could begin my training as an assassin across the lands
of Thera.

For now I stay in Udgaard, close enough to home incase I need to return.
This place is filled with all sorts of interesting folks. The marketplace
is filled with weapons and armor of which I've never seen until now, and
the alleyways are home to mistresses. All of these things, I can not get
enough. My LUST for all of these new wonders is growing.

After just beginning my training, it is clear that my LUST for learning
the fine art of assassination is unmatched. I can see all that will
matter from hence forth is who is wanted as dead, and for how much shall
I be paid. As for the magi of Thera, I'll be making a personal exception
for them: death, free of charge.
