Description
You gaze upon the lithe and agile form of an elven knight. He holds himself
poised for combat judging by his impressive armament of shining, lightweight
mithril and blessed weaponry. A holy glow seems to surround him, marking him
as a Paladin by profession. Faint soup stains mar his wristguards from years
of feeding the poor and hungry. A single crumb of unleavened bread sticks to
the top of his finely woven, elvenmade shoes. Beneath his helm, the deep gree
eyes are sunken and set back giving him a grim visage. He has no facial hair
upon his clean, strong jawline which rests upon his high-collared neck guard
fastened by his cloak. The edges of his cloak are torn or frayed from use or
exposure to the elements.
Looking closer, it appears an elvish language has been embossed upon the trim
of his cloak, almost too faint to see. The same scrawling script is etched
around the brim of his helm, the length of his blade, as well as the edges of
his shield. It is foreign and undiscernible but overall mysteriously
intriguing.
Role
The Holy Father
Added Thu Sep 16 19:37:58 2021 at level 1:
Long ago, an ancient knight was locked into battle with the wicked forces of
evil. It is not unlike every tale of its kind, as the eternal battle has
been waged for countless eons. From the first age to the last, there will be
good and evil. Only when and where they do battle will change as the flow of
time ushers into infinity.
This knight was known as the holy father among the elves. He was known for
crafting weapons and armor of unparalleled protection. It is said, those who
possessed his weapons would find no equal on the battlefield. Those who wore
his armor would fear no mortal blow from the enemy blade, arrow, or magic.
Truly, they were items to fear if ever they fell into the wrong hands. The
only problem with his creations is that they were stolen and cursed. He would
use the word 'borrowed' but no one ever knew, so he lived on with his secret
and none were the wiser.
A Holy Light
Added Thu Sep 16 19:41:12 2021 at level 1:
The day the holy father found these mysterious items was one focused upon
a great, celestial event. Once a year, in the month of the Dragon, on the
day of the Sun, a long, forgotten onyx obelisk would align with first dawn
until sunset and the rays of light would focus a beam of ethereal red light,
tracing an oval doorway that would linger until midnight. If one were to step
within this hidden portal, they would be transported to a place beyond time.
On the other side of this portal was a tomb to a great artificer who created
these magical relics the holy father pilfered. This artificer is said to be
the genesis to invoked magic wherein the intangible was imbued into the
ordinary. A pair of pants imbued with the essence of fire could keep you
very warm in the winter, immune to hellfire, or even fry an egg. The wearer
could bend the item to his or her will. This great artificer was the only one
of his kind, and when he slept, so did his secrets. It is important to note
this being is not dead, no, but very, very sleepy.
So sleepy, because he was bored with his age, and had hoped to sleep
ten thousand years, stuck in a stasis of his creation, longing to wake
and find others more advance than he in the future. Left undisturbed, perhaps
he would have.
The Curious and the Cursed Clogs

Unbeknownst to the father, when he removed the items, he activated a magical
timer. This timer was one bound to blood. This timer would release the energy
imbued into the items onto the wearer, and depending on the energy, it could
have catastrophic results. Proudly strutting around in hot pants imbued with
fire could boil the blood. Earrings of icicles would freeze the brain. And in
the case of the holy father, the soles of his boots would siphon out his very
soul.
So, as fate would have it, a curious, young boy stumbling upon a pair of
ancient, forgotten boots in the middle of the woods could not contain himself.
He slipped into the boots and was instantly possessed by a long-forgotten
spirit of the ancient father.
And so in the elven tongue, he was named, Valarien Atar'Eiurfea, which means
the divine light of the holy father's ancient spirit.
Having lived in a pair of boots for centuries, the holy spirit would guide
young Valarien to a path of selflessness. He would distill teachings of
courage and inner strength. A dedication to the purity of the light. Most of
all, he would protect the young boy in the ways of combat. He would help to
make him strike swift and true and help bring order and peace within the
land.
Blessings of Baerinika

Many years have passed since Valarien graduated the Academy and in that
time he did a great deal of learning. He found many mentors of the light to
guide him and show him how widespread the suffering was in Thera. At this
point Valarien knew he needed to do something. To join a faction who wanted
to unite around a common goal and take on a daunting burden. Even more
astonishing, Valarien was able to gain the audience of the god Baerinika
who put profound trust in his abilities to help those in the light; A holy
blessing that would humble him for the rest of his days. After some time
training and helping others, Valarien gained the attention of another holy
god named Azorinne. Azorinne also saw good in Valarien as Baerinika did and
allowed the young knight to begin training as a scibe in the Fortress of
Light. One humbling experience after another. Wielding the power of charity,
Valarien wanted to reinfoce the holy blessings upon his friends of the light
and share the power of Baerinika. He had the trust of gods, the trust of his
friends, and the stakes have never been higher.
Valarien has begun to feel the pressure but he knows he must not falter if
the forces of good are to defeat the forces of evil. He must strike swift and
true and be the measure of goodness for the youth in Thera. To be a beacon
like his mentors and share his experiences. At the time of his joining the
Fortress, there were but four Scribes and Acolytes combined. No Cardinal or
Prophet to be seen. Hopefully he can help to see this change and find other
like souls who share a selfless mentality. There are far too few, and it
concerns Valarien.
A Steadfast Heart

Time and time again, Valarien has felt unsure, unqualified, and almost
like an imposter within the walls of the Fortress. A few ideas always seem to
bounce around his head:
Am I really worthy of the blessing of Baerinika?
Of course, she trusts you! You would not be empowered with such beautiful,
pure, and holy power to do good throughout Thera if you were not...
Valarien reassures himself in this way many times a day.
Am I really ready to be an Acolyte? The holy beacon of light, a selfless
priest focused on the well being of all those of the golden aura.
Of course, Azorinne has put the same trust in you! You have learned the oath
and have kept to the teachings and learned the perils many have faced in the
Fortress, and serve as the true beacon you were meant to be!
Valarien reassures himself in this way many times a day as well.
You must believe in yourself, Valarien; A repeating mantra that echos in his
mind as the spirit of goodness guides him to those in need.
Valarien has learned the most from Hiilos in his travels and in honing his
combat prowess. And now, Valarien even trains in the holy virtue of Hope!
Just like Hiilos! You can do it too, Valarien, says the voice. You are
worthy. Hiilos bares the holy mark of Baerinika and even though you are not
the veteran of war, you have a pure heart filled with good intention.
The Golden Spirit
Added Fri Oct 8 22:06:29 2021 at level 51:
And then one day, it happened. It was a lunar eclipse and the night became
dark but a light began to show in the chest of Valarien. From the small mote
came a golden spirit who floated out from within and turned to face Valarien.
Valarien was astounded. And before he could speak, the spirit began.
"I am so very proud of you, my friend." said the spirit.
"Y-You, you are my guiding force, arn't you? You are what has been guiding
me since I was a little boy," remarked Valarien.
"I have been with you for a great many years, this much is true, but I am
here to teach one final lesson before I pass to the Azure," spoke the spirit.
"The truth of the matter is simple, I have merely been your observer and
silent guardian. All the decisions you made in your life were not due to
me, dear boy, they were your actions of your own free will. If anything, I
only encouraged what was there from the start. You have so much potential to
do good, and if anything, I only wanted to protect you so that one day you
would reach this point in your life and I would get to live through you and
know a life that I was never able to achieve. I am proud of you, Valarien.
And I know you will continue to do greater and greater things."
Tears began to pour from Valarien as he fell to his knees, a great weight
falling from his shoulders. The self doubt and feelings that had been building
up in him had released all at once. He looked up with blurry vision and in
that moment he saw the golden spirit smile and then vanish with a tiny
twinkle of light. The eclipse passed the moon had a certain sparkle that
night.
