Description

A human woman stands here before you, classically 'pretty' by human standards. Long dark hair cascades down her shoulders and it contrasts pleasantly with her otherwise pale skin. She clearly uses makeup to successful effect with smoky eyeshadow and darker than natural lips, playing into the contrast with her hair and eyebrows. Large, almond-shaped brown eyes complete her appearance. She is dressed practically, wearing a collection of light-weight armor and leathers that offer her protection while still allowing for mobility. She holds a weapon at her side with practiced ease, but the musical instrument she caresses in her other hand is clearly her focal point, carried comfortably in her dominant right hand close to her breast. She moves with a fluid confidence, humming a melody as she observes her surroundings.

In Hamsah Mu'tazz, the prostitutes guild is a divisive entity. For some, 
it is an esteemed profession. The oldest institution, where business is 
always booming. But for most? For most it has the stigma. A life 
squandered. Selling your soul for enough coins to get whatever stale 
bread is about to be thrown out.

And then what was Vallael? She was not enthusiastic enough, or perhaps 
she had too mujch spirit, to actually be a whore. Instead, she was a 
whore...for the whores. Not in any sexual sense, no. She had a natural 
talent for music and song. And so, she was the entertainment to make the 
real entertainment more alluring and fun. She spent much of her youth in 
sweaty, musky rooms within the Drunken Efreeti Inn, or within the guild 
itself, desensitived to the driving force or so many men and women- sex, 
as she played music to set the mood. Different clients had different 
preferences. Some wanted brash drums, some wanted romantic lullabies- the 
total girlfriend experience. Others wanted comedic tunes while their 
whore for the night dressed up in a clown costume.

But most often? Most often, Vallael played tragic, twisted, nightmarish 
songs while rich men and women lived out their sadistic fantasies for the 
most willing gigalos and prostitutes. And that suited her, her life felt 
empty as it was, and thus, she took to the music easily.

She would take what meager tips she earned from the top of the Guild's 
fees and skidaddle off into the night. Buying a jug of wine and whatever 
scraps of bread she could afford with what was left over. She was 
particularly envious of the Imperials who came in. They always seemed 
rich, and paid ostentatiously as they flaunted their success.

Eventually as she was a budding teenager, she realized she may soon be 
forced into work proper for the brothel. And so, she saved and scrimped 
what she could and made off with her harp and a lightly jingling coin 
purse. In what was the most harrowing experience of her life thus far, 
she played an audition for the bardic collegium in Hamsah Mu'tazz, 
ironically just a few doors down from the shabby entrance to the 
Prostitute's guild. She was accepted into the guild and her life began 
anew. What would she become? She yearned to be one of the creatures of 
nightmare she sang about. Commanding respect and fear from many, if not 
all. And perhaps, a wealthy Imperial to boot. But first...respect and 
fear.

From the Whorehouse to the Palace

Vallael has established herself within the Empire and sees a bright 
future ahead of her. In doing so a few things have stood out to her. 
First of all, while it is clear from the outside it is even more obvious 
from within: Appearances matter. Reputation is everything. To this end, 
Vallael tries to make sure she shows herself in her best light. 
Announcing her victories, downplaying and mentioning her defeats only 
when tactically relevant, and being quick to help her betters and being 
cordial with those she views as high-rising potential like herself.

She does not share the same love of Honesty and Truth that those who 
follow Zizaerix within the Palace do. She is happy to appear earnest and 
play to their sympathies, but it is not something she is inherently held 
to. She is driven by greed. Coming from a poor whorehouse, she is 
enamored with the life she can potentially have within the Empire. As 
such, status and gold are driving factors for her. She is eager to take 
her place within the elite members of the sect and she has an eye on a 
council seat of War Master. Even at her young age, the path seems open.

This sort of rags to riches life has left her yearning for more. And 
while she is not overly religious, she is curious- if wary- of Nycruvae. 
Contracts are not things taken lightly, and she has heard that his 
followers also have a penchant for honesty, although perhaps not without 
pretense. Something she has been turned off of by the Zizaerix followers. 
To this end she is entertaining visiting his place of worship, perhaps 
once she has more leverage within the Empire and more to bargain with. 
Although even that would likely be paltry to the Divine Lord.
