Description
A slender young lady is before you, clad in tight, revealing clothing.
Fiery red hair drapes down her back flowing wildly in the winds,
obscuring the pale white skin of her face and neck. Flaring even
more brightly red is a small, flawed ruby which hangs around her
neck on a charred silver chain. Hazy blue eyes contrast her ivory
visage, and an evil, pouting grin suggests that her ponderous
thoughts could be hazardous to your life. An unpleasant aura is
about this lady as her staring eyes seem to peer through you, with
teeth gnashing all the while.

Hard Times

The outlander scourge had seemingly been beaten back, and little had
been heard from them in weeks. I used this downtime to start gathering
steam, focusing my attention upon gathering souls for my unholy spear.
For awhile, I felt unstoppable as I dove down spearfirst from one
encounter to the next, growing stronger with each corpse left behind.
Then things began to go wrong. Very wrong. My overconfidence got the
better of me, and I did not think to run when faced with bands of
roving thugs. Perhaps I trusted too much in my prowess with this
titanium spear to care, or thought my magics would protect me too well.
Whatever the case, I suffered embarrassing defeats one right after the
other until I had been reduced to my present state. My spear had been
broken in battle, and my enemies gathered to capitalize on my
misfortunes.
Upon hearing of my disgraces, the guildmaster of Galadon took me aside
and schooled me on the disciplines of honorable combat. I had already
been unintentionally practicing this path as it just made good sense
before; with others nearby I could not learn as effectively in each
fight, and it only made sense to leave my victims with all they
possessed so they may recover and siphon their souls again to me
sooner. But now I had been given special insight to avoiding and even
excelling in fighting groups, provided I can maintain my sense of
fairness. Or atleast give all outward appearances.
I take little pleasure in all such encounters, but will not shed any
tears over the blood I have spilled. In the end, my purpose is greater
than any of the lives I have ended, and I will continue to rebuild my
lost strength until I am satisfied and secure.
Daily Grind
Added Tue Feb 24 07:58:08 2009 at level 33:
The months dragged on, and my thirst for knowledge has greatly
outstripped the dingy libraries and magical bazaars of the cities. I
performed my duties within the Spire as best as could be expected,
although severely hamstrung when it came to pursuing certain
miscreants. I found myself running from a number of encounters once
my magical tricks failed to incapacitate my foes, so certainly had
some training to do before I could take much pride in my combat
prowess. But running is better than rotting.
Fortunately I did not lose any sleep over the string of embarrassing
defeats. There were few other magistrates to witness in my misfortunes,
and those that caught any inkling of my missteps were usually too
beleaguered with their own difficulties to make any snide comments.
Still, I found myself journeying more and more often to the secluded
Jade Mountains, where I could practice my magical crafts on the young
elves that strayed too close to me. Although most elves were overly
cautious in avoiding me, these Jade elves were rather dim-witted and
easily trapped. I have lost count of the numbers that have perished by
my hand in my trials, but they have thus far been unable to mount any
kind of defense, so I will continue butchering them until I've learned
everything they can teach me. I take little pleasure in such acts, but
my own magical pursuits are far more important than the lives of these
savage weasels.
I have had dealings with the Executioner more and more frequently
lately. Although few others in the Spire see any potential within me,
I believe he has taken notice in my tireless efforts in defending the
Spire from attackers, and my numerous retrievals once the scales have
been spirited back to the tree. Nobody's going to mistake my actions as
selfless however, especially when my solution to most problems involves
slashing it in the face with a knife or running a spear through it.
Discontent Within the Spire
Added Wed Feb 18 22:37:30 2009 at level 31:
I took up a job within the Spire, for reasons which escape me now. For
the most part, I have performed my duties while sticking precisely to
procedures, but I fight a losing battle. Criminals greatly outnumber
us, and the upper echelon is constantly being mowed down by their
swarms. I am usually alone, and frequently fighting against far
superior numbers. I have managed to persevere by being fast,
aggressive, and ruthless. I have also not been too proud to run to
fight another day when necessary, the fields are strewn with the
corpses of heros already.
I do not believe the other magistrates care much for me, which does not
disturb me too much. I also believe the Provost cares more about
boosting his own ego than enforcing the laws and procedures as written
or developing magistrates. He flirted with me the whole time he
interviewed, and gaining that interview required more effort on my part
than any applicant should have to endure. There is little surprise why
the Spire is in such a sad state right now.
I carry no great importance within the Spire so far, being
delegated to a second-class city with no prospects of a promotion. I
will continue to do what I know is right, recording transgressions in
my logs. Eventually I will make my move to set things right in the
Spire, even if some of the dead weight needs to be burned away in the
process. Especially if that dead weight is the current leadership.
Gaining the Amulet, Losing What Bound Me Before...
Added Thu Jan 22 15:20:28 2009 at level 16:
"Is he dead?", the hooded man asked suspiciously.
"No. He still breathes." I answered, while reaching into the still body's
clothing, looking for my token. "We agreed there was no need to finish
him." Finally my fingers grasped the amulet, and feeling of
satisfaction filled me.
"He's seen your face! It will be your neck on the chopping block if he tells
the magistrate what happened here tonight, not mine", the hooded man
barked.
"He will say nothing. He knows what will happen to him if he does", I
replied.
"Not good enough! I have no doubt you would reveal me to save your own
neck. If you aren't strong enough to finish this, then I will!". The
hooded figure pushed back his cowling and began chanting and gesturing
the beginnings of a lightning bolt spell, curling lips sneering coldly
as be readied himself to strike a killing blow.
With a flash, I hung the pulsing medallion around my neck, drew my
dagger, and stabbed the hooded figure into his left eye socket. So much
blood shot out that my dagger slipped from grasp, and the figure fell
forward dead upon it. "I told you there was no reason to kill him. You
never trusted me, brother", I muttered.
Now I was the last one left. My sisters Jarian and Silne, and now my
brother Jerias... all met unfortunate accidents, or so I had to make it
appear. But, they were all greedy and insisted that others must die for
our plan to work. Well, I had finally finished the job, alone, and the
only ones that died were of my own blood.
They will not be missed, and my conscience is clean. For now, I will
retire back to the Lyceum to try to learn how to make this trinket work
for me. I would start anew once I've unlocked these secrets, and wash
this path of filth and depravity from my deepest memories.
