Description

Before you stands a stout human, just over six feet tall and broad shoulders. His well defined muscles taut beneath his slightly sun- bronzed skin. His hair and short beard are deep-black, both kept very well trimmed. An wide chin and strong lines on his face are marks of his human heritage. His eyes of shimmering light green, carefully seeking every movement around him. There is a feeling of uneasiness about his gaze, a permanent mix of hunger and the zeal of a priest. His armor is a mixture of leather and polished metal, pefectly ajusted to his body. You can notice a rigid dedication to shining and polishing his armor, revealing some repetitive behavior. A strong build is seen under his armor, muscular arms and legs and a wide torso gives him an imposing form. A grin smile is fixed upon his lips, as he glares at you with second intentions.

Role

An unusual proposal.

Added Sat Jan 29 12:35:23 2022 at level 36:
Some time ago, a well-dressed priest approached young Varkal with an unusual
proposal, a path of glory, prosperity and respect. This priest said that the
opportunity was immense, that in the mighty Empire formed by four sects, the
dark sect was empty, and that a young man with ambition and training in the
anti's guild paladins, would have a bright future.

All that was needed was to take the first step. Take the Bloodoath.

Varkal was of very humble origin, the son of a Galadon cityguard with a
seamstress. Saw his father get murdered when he was very young. The city was
constantly assailed by barbarians and savages, who came with fury against
whomever lived in its walls, bringing destruction, fire and death to all who
wanted there, to have a life of work and prosperity.

His mother was very reclusive, worked day and night and had her work exploited
by a nobleman who lived in a mansion north of the city park. Money in his
family was scarce, barely enough for them to eat. The young man spent most of
the days roaming the streets, with hatred growing in his veins. He didn't
accept the condition of poverty and feeling of incapacity in the face of
everything that happened around him. Why someone didn't do something? All he
craved for, was a safe place somewhere that would accept him for who he was,
with someone to take care of him and those around him.

This same hatred eventually led him to a decrepid mansion, near the river of
Galadon, where a demon that guarded the entrance, seeing the gleam in the
young man's eyes, invited him to come inside. The guild of anti-paladins,
brought promises of power and knowledge, tools to get anything. Varkal, was
easily seduced and started in the same day his training.

Easily seduced, he was also by the priest, soon he was uttering the words:
My heart, my soul, my life for the Empire.

With an evil smile on his lips, the priest handed him a bag with thirty gold
pieces and said: "Just a glimpse of what awaits you in the future." Varkal was
in stasis and shock, never had so much money in his hands. Not for a moment he
thought about his mother, only, in everything he could do with this money to
improve his life.

Darkness already inhabited his heart.

Empty Halls

Added Sat Jan 29 12:37:37 2022 at level 36:
Now Varkal was known as a Bloodoath of the Empire. He knewn nothing at all
about how the Empire worked, how the Sects were structured, what the role of
Oaths and Citizens. But quickly he began to understand that each being in the
Empire had its importance and its place. The pyramidal structure, headed by
the Emperor, who at the moment did not existed, followed by the Council of the
four sect leaders, and so on until the bloodoaths. For the first time, he
heard the twin words, Dominion and Obedience.

While Varkal worked hard, focused solely on learning the nuances of his guild,
he heard several times from other members of the empire, that the halls of
Black were voided. But some phrases marked him more. The Shadow Lord said, for
all my life, never seen a single soul within the halls. And from a Elite Blade,
if you know the stuff of your guild, a path of glory is before you. Other wise,
its only frustration and despair. Being honest, Varkal had no idea what the
"stuffs" of his guild were.

But, he remained focused on what he was doing: studying, learning, evolving.
Within the guild and in the teachings of his guildmaster, until he was
"promoted" to a black servant. Finally he was recognized as a Citizen, and the
feeling of having a place in the sect and being recognized as such, reminded
him of his childhood desires, to be accepted as he was, to have his place in a
structure that brought him security and he was grateful to be under the
dominion of the Empire.

Back to the Black Halls, right at the entrance, looming is the statue of a
former Immortal of the Black, the giant Zulghinlour, who was once a dark knight
as well. Inside, the floor had been covered with a thick layer of rich earth
with a circle of chairs set towards the center. He was alone, and silence
reigned. Varkal chosed a chair and sat down, unpretentiously smiled and said:
"And now, what shall we do?"

For his surprise, someone or something spoke back. In that moment, he
understood what few in the Empire knew. The Black Halls, are never empty.

Pillars and gears.

Added Sat Jan 29 12:40:47 2022 at level 36:
A truly prosperous society, which aims to achieve a status of civilization, it
is supported by pillars as rigid as rock. They are Darkness and Order, Dominion
and Obedience. Each pillar representing one of the corners of the palace north
of the Imperial lands.

Darkness and Order, entered young Varkal's heart at the moment of bloodoath,
Dominion and Obedience, are coming for understanding and learning. One of the
goals now is a meeting with Lord Destuvius, to learn more about Grand Design.

While the pillars support it, gold in turn is what moves civilization. The
Empire is constantly in need of gold, centurions, commerce, art, culture and
expansion. Varkal knows how poor he is, and how much he needs to work at it.
Even having being promoted again, he knows the importance of donations to the
Sect and the Empire.

On the other hand, steel and magic are the pilllars of his class. A unique
combination of combat with mysticism that no other guild offers. It's a
difficult art to master but with virtually unlimited potential. Contrary to
what many think, the class does not study soul magic, but infernal magic.
Souls, like gold, are the currency of exchange with the Arch-dukes of Hell.

Varkal have grown, tasted victory and defeat. Also, have tasted a little of
power, and he liked it. As his hungers increases, he knows its time to get
things moving, gold and souls are the gears for power, he shall work on them.

Two chapters in Varkal's life

Added Sat Jun 11 07:53:49 2022 at level 45:
Things were happening too fast, he was an young and proud elite black in the
Imperial army, and by the time he started working on gold and souls, a blend
new Empress were appointed, a dark-elf assassin named Sadeha, known as the
Garrulous Grouse.

Chaper one, Sadeha demanded Varkal to raise funds, as quick as he could, and
he obeyed. I no time, Varkal was raised before the Empress as the Dread Lord
of the Empire. He was young for that, and the title striked fear in many
enemies, but for being made Dread Lord, Varkal is grateful to Sadeha. The
now defunct Empress, left another important lesson to Varkal, mesure what
you say, especially before a Dark Lord of the Empire. Sadeha was a mouthfull
who seemed to know no limit. Unfortunatelly for Her, the Immortal Lords of
the Empire, unleashed their wrath upon Her, erradicating Her from Thera and
any mark, document, statue or trace of Her existence.

This is to be always remembered, the Imperial Law supersedes all other laws
of Thera and only the will of An Immortal can supersede Imperial Law.

Two chapters in Varkal's life

Added Sat Jun 11 07:55:32 2022 at level 45:
A vote, first Varkal participated was called. And for his surprise, another
dark-elven assassin was named Emperor, Ceva.

Chapter two, it was a dark time for the Empire. Ceva was naive in many ways
and did not have the strength to rally the forces of the Empire, while the
the fortress army and outlanders savages were roaming like hordes in the
world. In the first years of Ceva's reing, were very profitable in hunting
for Varkal, as the Codex was constantly out of place, allowing him to face
many enemies defending. It was a hard way to forge his habilities, but many
times frustration runned into his veins. The good, he were able to build a
weapon with almost twenty five souls on it. The bad, a family relative,
became very ill and required attention. Even the Dread Lord of the Empire
felt fear in loosing someone so close. In this period, he neglected his
duties within the Empire, and all his endeavor in using his prestige and
attention resulted in no different end, his relative passed away.

Varkal was desolated by this time, and it is said, Ceva died alone within
this period as well, abandoned by his army. Varkal really wished he could
do more, but pain corroded his will at that time. But as every action has
a consequence, when Varkal returned, full of hate, his weapon and most of
his armor, were gone. The Empire was in shards, and he felt his punishment
was that he lost most of his work so far. A cycle was closed, Ceva died
almost taking the Empire with him, and Varkal lost his work so far, and
most of his humanity as he no longer had ties with family.

One thing remained, he was still Dread Lord.

Fresh air, hot air.

Added Thu Aug 4 13:19:12 2022 at level 51:
Another vote was called. This time, raised as emperor a fire giant named
Thokran. It was a blow of fresh air into the Empire, finally an emperor who
was up to show his face and work on the rebuild. It was a time of turn of
of the tides, but one of the main reasons was the becoming of a lich named
Tamazin, who was a magistrate and his presence changed a lot the ways of
the wars. Attention of enemies, had two focus now.

Varkal took the opportunity to put himself back in action, and one day in
in a travel to the city of Seantryn Modan, arriving at his guild he was
met with a surprise, the guildmater greeted him saying: "Welcome Dread Lord,
we were waiting for you.". "We", was something Varkal was getting used to
listen among his guild. Since the nature of the dark pacts made among the
guild members, being alone was never an option.

He was led through the abandoned church to the cemetery, stopping in front
of a crypt with the slab partially open. The guildmaster pointed for him to
continue alone, and Varkal entered the crypt, descending a spiral staircase
until he reached a wide chamber in the bottom. The place was like a rough
subterranean cavern, round in shape with stagnant water along its entire
length. Hundreds of lighted candles floated with a faint flame revealing a
narrow path to a small island in the center of the lake, where a battered
elf layd pinned to the ground.

Varkal stared at the elf before his feet, the cross of Voralian's paladins
guild embroidered at it's clothes, and grinned. At this moment, his mind was
flooded by strange voices, he took a deep breath and the smell of fetid water
permeating the environment mixed with the scent of fear comming from the elf,
took his being. Abyssal words comming out of his mouth, with a will of their
own, the candles in the lake started to float and the flames of hell itself
reflected deep into Varkal's eyes, as he uttered 'Xy luqq ojis dtxx pqukxz,
Ninarum', while thrusting his spear deep into the elf's heart.

An unholy blast of hot air took place, emanating from Varkal, putting down
the fire of all candles in the chamber. Darkness, and the muffled sound of
candles falling into the water didn't last long, as his iron spear was
outlined in unholy flames. Varkal and the unholy flames of hell were
etternaly bound.
