Varric The Warrior

Varric was never really much on the surface, and could have much
like many other warriors simply be given a number. Dutifully trained,
disciplined and dedicated to the Warrior guild. It was after all
all he knew, his father was a warrior, his mother a warrior, his
brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties, grandparents ... so right from
the very start there was never any question as to what profession
he was going to follow.
But beneath the surface there lingered something sinister, in a
state of slumber Varric would only catch glimpses of it in his sleep.
Even as a small child his brothers would wake him in the middle of
the night as he screams blood curdling cries, and when things became
to much his father would simply knock him out cold with a heavy
backhanded blow of gauntleted hand.
The shamans of the underdark would talk of possesion in this child
but his father would never listen. He was not a religious man of any
sorts nor did he believe in ghosts, it was just part of growing up
and he certainly felt vindicated as the time between incedents grew
and grew until one day they stopped.
Varric The Traveller

As he passed through his teenage years the nightmares started to fade
and despite the relief Varric always felt somewhat empty and hollow.
For near enough to ten years he remained incident free, a period long
enough to finally be sent on a mission to the surface, the City of
Galadon and much like those before him a simple reconisance mission
to gather information on the:
- Distribution of guards
- Information on the gates
- Watch towers
- Vulnerable access points such as water ways
- And well has his father put it a "Shite load of Gold"
Dressed as a plain adventurer he waltzed right through the academy and
outside the city gates to the west, he never had any intention of
returning. A desire that was to be answered sooner rather than later
as he walked through the forest he was soon set upon by a viscious
black warg, and despite all his training he knew that this was to be
his last fight. And as the warg landed a blow rendering him helpless
complete and utter nothingness filled his eyes and ears...
Varric The Dead

A sudden cold flush rushed through Varric, jolting him awake as he
hurtled down towards a large fiercy chasm. Stripped of everything
laid bare he could feel the heat rising and rising, until he was once
again struck by a sudden cold flush as powerful fingers wrapped around
his torso brutally stopping his motion. There he hovered for a moment
before he was brutally hurled in the opposite direction, crashing through
the crust of the world to find himself at the feet of a drow healer.
As he stood somewhat dazed and confused he noticed a thin leather band
hanging around his neck as his only possesion. The chill of memories
flood his very being and he found himself re-walking his steps to the
Warg only to find himself looking at his own corpse. To this day he still
does not know why he did what he did, but he leant down and gathered his
own severed ear onto a thin leather band before wearing it around his neck.
The Realm Of The Dead

Years went past time and time again Varric ould find himself able to cheat
death itself, yet he came to learn that others also seemed to have a means
to escape something so final. But there was something, when he struck that
killing blow he could swear he heard two things
1. The whispered sigh of relief
2. The angushied cry of someone who just had something slip through its
fingers
When training one day high in the mountains to the north he heard a sound
which was soon followed by a chill in the air and a dense fog. A large
hand gnarled with calloused fingers reach from the fog grabing him by the
neck dragging him onboard a ferry which seemingly floats in thin air. Just
as suddenly he finds that same hand throwing him from his ferry in a land
between both the living and the dead. An empty hollow place with nothing as
far as the eye can see just a rough wind tearing at his body the only
reminder that perhaps he was still alive.
A voice far beyond the power of anything he knew, had marked clearly that
his time was done. A massive spectral hammer raised high in the air before
crashing down upon Varric so sudden was the death his bodily reflexes were
left semi aware as the could feel the impact with every circle of hell as
he was thrust through the world. yet all the while he could still see his
bodily remains scattered to all corners of the lands in a flaming ball of
fire.
Then nothing ...
From Nothing Comes Something

Varric awakes to a loud crack and a rush of air, as he peers through the crack
in the seal for a moment he notices the link back to the land of the living.
Suddenly the hoof of a large ashen horse crash around his head, before another
drives him into the ground as he presses firmly on the center of his back. A
skeletal rider on the horse wielding a large sword tosses a thin leather band
laden with ears at Varrics side, and using his sword points to it, Varric, and
the small crack to the world outside. As Varric stands and stares at this figure
he feels a familiar chill before he turns and crawls through the seal which grows
smaller by the moment. As he finnally pushes through he feels a blast of hot air
as the seal once again shuts.
Brief Summary - Part I

- Sword: Matching that wielded by the pale rider on the ashen horse
- Maces: Matching that of the hammer that sent him to what was meant to be his
........ final resting place
Legacies
Ward of Blades: As a reflection of his disciplined training and a legacy of War
............... being part of the family heritage for so many centuries
Cry Of Thunder: As a extension of the blood chilling cries he would yell as a
............... small child when dreams gripped him so.
Other things of note:
- He is a great believe in Death, and believes there is strength to be gained
. from his foes death along with his own, around these events he is quite
. ritualistic.
To this point:
1. Death in its final form is the supreme culmination of Order, when it is
.. finally realised as it should be it is a known quantafiable state. For those
.. who are lucky enough to feel its embrace over and over, Varric believes he
.. has offered them a great gift, the chance to feel Deaths embrace and the peace
.. that follows after it.
2. Strength can be gained from the fallen, he specifically collects the ears as he
.. belives this will only magnify the effect of his War Cries as it is heard across
.. the spread of the land.
3. In his own death he will burn the corpse collecting part of the ashes only the
.. most pale in colur. This will come to full swing in time. he believes this ritual
.. slowly burns the feakness from the fallen form leaving only the strongest of ashes.
4. He does not fear death, but there is little strength to be gained from a corpse,
.. formed out of stupidity, so while he will and must always fight for survival so
.. he can gain the most from his own death.
5. He will eventually seek an army to impose his will and belief in Order with.
.. He sees the Empire as being the best fit for this. But not before bestowing his
.. gifts on a number of them first.
The Empire

Varric stops dead in his tracks as his attention is drawn to a missive
posted at the town hall detailing the herald of a new council. At the top
of this list sits the name Dhuzir and while Varric knows nothing of the
name he is quick to judge that this person is not worthy to shape the
Empire due to the two other postings he reads. Zaric and Nhingehm both
of these names he knows, and he still remembers the fear in their eyes.
For a War Master Zaric seems completely incapable of fighting he is however
a good runner, perhaps a message boy is a better suited task for them.
The priest oh my the priest, when standing in a group of three against
Varric who was alone, the priest and his party including other Imperials
stood inactive quivering behind dwarven guard in Akan.
Emote stares at the sign for a time stroking his chin deep in thought and
while he feels he should simply just act now and charge in to rectify
this problem take his Throne. He has not yet found that sinister voice he
heard in the Hamsah guild so long ago. Much like Varric the voice reeked
of Death, and he strongly feels his next step forward starts here.
Varric the Victorious Chamion to the Battle-Scarred

Varric's choice to join the Empire was never going to be a matter of if
but when. The long term goal is always in mind, but the short term was
the main driving factor in the "Now". Forced conflict, both with others
trying to scramble for their precious items, but also for those trying
to defend Varric from his. Needless to say there was little disapointment
in such and the blood indeed flowed freely, Victorious Varric was, but
one day that all changed at the hands of the Outlanders, Battle-Scarred
and in the land between the living and the dead, Death appeared as a voice
and it was female, intoxicating and beautifully spoken. She simply said
"You have lost everything, and have this gaping hole in your chest, heavily
burnt by the suns rays let me end your pain."
For Varric this very moment was the most embracing and beautiful moment
he had ever experienced, and as he stood there in limbo contemplating this
moment another voice entered his head. It was his own, anger vengance
layered heavily on three simple words.
"Kill them all!"
An intoxicating scent entered his nostrils, as a sweet breath brushed across
him with the words.
"My beautiful Duergar, bring them to me."
Suddenly like every time before things grew suddenly cold and Varric found
himself hurtling towards the feet of a drow healer. Once again retracing his
steps to stand over his corpse.
Hanhangha and the Faithful Defenders - Part I

The drow Hanhangha was little more than a ripple in a pond trying
to topple a great war barge. All those in the tree could sense it
and yet with the Codex simply returned, visions of Death filled
Varrics head, the call was strong there was to be a fight and
someone was going down. With druid and ranger by the drows side
Varric had inflicted enough wounds to kill the drow two times over.
Yet the dagger wounds Varric has sustained were taking their toll
there was not a single part of his body uncut and bleeding, just as
the drow switch from daggers to axes an intoxicating and beautifully
spoken voice filled his head.
"Not here, not now."
With those words the duergar fell back and moved magically to safety
the time was there to mend wounds and hobble somewhat to the crypts
under the city of Arkham. The blood continued to pour from his wounds
and it was not long until every piece of armor had a coating of blood
on it. When the drow arrived he knew he was trapped, to close to the
city healer, as he quaffed the potion of teleportation there was
something vastly different. Suddenly cold his direction was abruptly
changed and sent hurtling to the feet of the faithful defenders deep
within Dra'Melkhur. It did not take long in that place, the larger
number of inhabitants drawn by the scent of blood.
Hanhangha and the Faithful Defenders - Part II

Varrics return to Thera was not like any others, there were no games
no temptations, these all replaced with an urgency almost to a degree
a panic. It was cold as it was the other times but the chill never
really left. As he retraced way to his body, he came upon a corpse
already bound the stench of something highly flamable obvious on the
fibres. As he lent in to strike the flame, that unmistakable scent
filled his nostrils, he paused a moment as he had only felt the presence
this strongly between worlds.
Sweet beautifully spoken words filled his ears. "A gift my beautiful
Duergar."
Striking his sword Varric watched in amzament as his remains were
consumed in a black flame. The flames completely consuming everything
in their path, feet and hands, then arms and legs, then the torso
until all that was left was a pile of pale ash and a blackened skull.
And as he stood there, framed by the Shadow of Death, he took all the
ashes he had collected over the centuries that had passed and begain to
mix them with those on the ground. Collecting the asheshe placed them
inside the blackened skull, through a hole in the left eye socket.
Sealing the skull with a piece of cork from a wine bottle. The shadows
that surround him shift, as a clump of ashes on the ground stir into a
large cloud finally settling on the duergars frame.
"Varric the Shadow of Death, bring me my army."
Varric's lips curl in a wicked grin, the skin cracking where a large
locust tattoo has drawn the skin taught.
Brief Summary - Part II

Other things of note:
1. As his dark passenger start to take a greater hold of him his desire
.. to spread the ultimate Oder, Death is begining to grow stronger.
.. Originally stiffled by the Empire for a time, his urgency to turn this
.. over and take control of the throne is going to grow with each passing
.. day. He knows he needs to be decieptful in this act, and tow the Imperial
.. line until the right time is found.
2. He has for what it may appear to others begun to speak to himself, in
.. reality he speaks with her, with his dark passenger.
3. His corpse ritual will continue but now with enough of the right ashes
.. collected he will start using these more often proir to combat.
4. New description to tie a few things in.
From Elite Blade To Imperial Blade

Varric was never really much on the surface, and could have much
Varric thus far has found some elements of the Imperial army
frustrating, the time has been frustrating to say the least and
in ensuring the chance for the army to grow the true side of
what the Empire is starting to become has been revealed to him.
The clamber for power by those greedy for it, has weakened the
Empire severely. To the point where the citizens are starting to
push back more and more. Attacking in defense of others who hold
the Codex, only to fall back to cities where the Empire was once
feared to mock and ridicule underneath the very power of the Codex
they aim to keep from the Imperials. It was during one of these
bouts, a villager defending mages that Varric had had enough.
Killing the villager where he stood, the sense of mockery soon
wiped off his face as he moo-ed and moo-ed about the Imperial law
he so desperately clinged to for protection.
It was endless the bellows soon reaching the heavens, Morius
the Imperial God admitted as much, waiting for Varric to fail so
Money and Title could be stripped from him. Soon after such in a
time that she had never pressed for before she came to him, her
sweet voice teasing tempting.
"My my look at you!" Honey soaked words oozed from the shadows
between life and the after life, suddenly becoming harsh.
"Soon will be your chance to push, the pinicle of your guild my
beautiful Duergar, then you can spread your order."
A cold touch traces a line down varrics face along the seam of his
tattoo and the tortured skin at it edges.
"You become more beautiful everytime we meet."
The Empty Throne

Varric cannot help but be frustrated at the lack of progress within
the Empire. For a long time there was little he could do about it
however as his last act before going missing in action the so called
War Master finally returned Varric's standing as an Elite. This then
lead to the opportunity to replace his former leader who slowly rotted
in his room until he finally died. This standing was soon to be followed
by the Empress, as she grew fat on the hard work of the Empire she
herself also locked herself in chambers.
Varric took action on this, the Empire does not need to be left to rot
it needs to be feared as it always should be. With his own ambition and
the desire to build Lady Death's army, Varric clearly stated to all in
the council and the Immortal Lords. While it may not have forced a vote
it did cause the thief to reveal her true nature and belief in Death, by
slitting her own throat in some obscure place away from the Throne. So
while the end result is not what he wanted the conselation prize was
atleast the Throne being empty. Which is still opportunity.
The Vote

The time has finally come for the Vote, for Varric this really
was no surprise, she had summoned Varric using the warrior Lethik
as her tool. This meeting was unlike any other, it was well beyond
the beauty he had felt in the past, that feeling was their smothered
thick, but mixed with ... excitement, lust, hunger. For the very
first time there was not the heavy sense of enticement to stay but
instead something far more sinister.
As the words rolled through the void between the living and the dead
their purpose was defined.
"Vote for the Shadow"
Suddenly like every time before things grew suddenly cold and Varric
found himself hurtling towards the feet of a drow healer. Once again
retracing his steps to stand over his corpse. For the first time in
a long time there was little ritual to perform, for now a new purpose
found.
...
Just as she predicted soon after a Shadow Lord was named, and a vote
placed in action.
The Death Knights

Ebeed's word's of death knights instantly caught Varric's ear
and it was not long til the giant as re-elevated from bloodoath
back to where the rightfully should stand. This was however all
to be short lived, Varrics fascination of Death and becoming a
far more powerful tool for his Lady was a temptation only to be
exceeded by but one thing. Her allure. The ever present tick of
time growing ever louder Varric truely believes there is more he
can do for her, but his mortal shell only has so much left to
give.
The Imperial Inquisitor was the one to unravel it all, and such
could only be for but on reason. The lust and desperation in his
voice all to obvious that she had paid him a visit, or more
correctly the Inquistor had paid her a visit. It was unusual for
Varric to be approached in this manner, usually she reached out by
far different means. As to why the change Varric has no idea but
it did in no uncertain terms close the door on pursuing any such
opportunity.
Despite the tone in the inquistors voice, that ever sweet scent
filled his ears and faint words whispered:
"My beautiful Duergar."
