Description

A stocky figure stands before you. His broad shoulders sit below a massive neck as thick as a tree trunk. Corse black hair braided and tucked within his chest piece hangs down from his jaw line and works its way up to his temples. His jaw looks to change shape by becoming wider as if he is clenching his teeth. One dark green eye and one ghoulish, white eye sit in his head unmoving. Ebony skin glistens with perspiration as droplets bead on his forehead. His clothing makes noise as he breathes making leather expand and metal fasteners graze other parts of his armor.His arms are covered in armor and each hand grips a weapon more threatening than the other. A belt lined with maces, daggers, and sheath lies above another armored girth.His short legs are the thinnest part of his body and they look quite agile. Glancing over once more you see that. . .

Victory within the mind

Having found his way into the halls of the Theran academy, Varuk displayed
quite the enthusiasm for discovering the hidden. He was learning to fight
better with use of body and mind to adjust to the rhythm of combat. All the
while remember how far he came to get to the academy. Losing his family in
the mines of Yzekon and barely escaping with his own life was the turning
point in his life.  He found that in the chaos of danger he became calm.  His
eyes began to see clearly and his escape was his first victory in life.The
second being admittance to the academy along with its navigation and his
rapid acceleration with a sword and shield.  Though he did rather like the
small swords, ah, daggers they were called.  He completed many tasks, one of
which brought him to the Inn of the Eternal Star.  It was a simple delivery,
but he soon learned the Inn had a great collection of literature and records.
He spent days within the library and learned more than he thought his mind
could absorb.  Lords of the past, poems of notable bards, maps of all of
Thera, and the tales of ages long ago relished in his mind as a euphoric
accomplishment brought the greatest victory of his life.  He was smarter than
any duergar he could think of. What other duergar had read every single bit
of text within a Library? His late father had taught him to read in the low
light of the mines, and it became his fondest memory.  He will one day fight
and find revenge suitable enough for his parents death. The chaos he would
bring would know now bounds, and the final victory in his mind was laid out. 
Be the warrior. Never give up, and never surrender.

Inspiration from the past

There are always great things to learn.One of which Varuk discovered in a
portfolio of collected works written by the legendary bard, Pippen. Within
the series of old, dusty pages from long, long ago was a song that has been
lingering within the far reaches of his mind.  Quiet at first, but the words
repeat and suddenly he feels more confident in battle by mere thought alone. 

I battled fierce, long and hard!
Dancing, stabbing, the fighting Bard.
It was tough, but I was tougher!
Though I know, I am no buffer.
I pierced, once, thrice:
My sub issue dagger didst slice!
Creature fell, screamed, and died,
Cursing the Newbie with whom it'd vied.

The words of Pippen will live again when the time comes to strike fear with
the war cry from Varuk. And he will be victorious.

The Cry of War

Finding great inspiration in Pippins song of Victory, Varuks war shout can
be heard in the dance of combat; striking paralyzing fear into his enemies
minds has been a tactic that provides victory in war.

The Test

Varuk was searching. Always he searched.  In book or word from librarian, he
found himself unable to find a suitable plot for revenge capable of victory
and success.  However, unbeknownst to the young warrior, a prophecy awaited
him; a prophecy that had been close to unraveling the very fabric of life
around him, but unable due to key losses or failures in controlling such a
great and powerful force.  Yes, this would yield revenge so sweet that Thera
itself would crumble and light would become darkness. A great chaos would
occur before this time was to come, and Varuk wanted to be in the middle of
it.  His journey had him seek out the High Chancellor of dark magicks.
Charine was the name given to the position.  The Chancellor allowed the young
warrior to pledge his life to the prophecy, under the condition he prove his
grit and skill in battle. Take the scalps of thirty Theran travelers, no
matter who or what they are, and report back to the force called Charine.

After the lies crumble

In the eyes of Varuk, the plan to avenge the deaths of his parents was
simple. It had always been clear that he had to set the path for bringing the
Cculgra.  Once he had the power of the scepter within his arms his swords
took on a new life.  They worked for the Cculgra and obeyed without
question. Until the Advisor had shattered his belief that chaos will work
with the lawmen of order, he still could be blind to that path.It would
take a large bit of black magick to shred a soul away from the body, and
should the Cculgra and Advisor succeed, perhaps Varuk would no longer walk
in the realm of the living.  For years he had been misled.  To him, it was
one giant, elaborate lie to sculpt a powerful warrior into a tool for the
mages.  They had used the wrong warrior.  The amount of time he wasted
assisting the Cculgra could have been used to find the answers his soul
wanted; why did things go wrong in the mines, and how did he come to the
present through Yzekon? The dark one worshipped the forms of serpents; though
they shared similar characteristics to the Cculgra he had seen. Living with
his enemy only made it easier to understand his failures. Perhaps the
disciples of Yzekon had been working years before to create the rift of time
that opened the gateway into the past.  Now the serpents of Yzekon take on a
different shape, the truer form of the Cculgra today.  Fill the duergar with
anger and rage for revenge, and in his blindness he will fight for the black
magick.Varuk had always believed one should know thy self when set on a
path to Victory. He learned long ago in the Lyceum of the Lords of deception,
as well as the Prince of Lies.  All worked with black magick.  Now he must
free himself from its grip and destroy the hand that has misled his life for
so long. The hands of mages.
