Description

There is no doubt untold years of using demonic magic and bartering with devils has very noticeably taken it's toll on this haggard looking middle-aged man. Standing no more than six feet in height is Varuuz, a broad shouldered and dark haired human male. A very unpleasant smile showing his now rotting and yellowed teeth seems etched on his face, below a hooked nose and staring over-sized green eyes. He is muscular, but quite heavy set, causing his armor not to fit around his pot-belly. The extra weight is visible in his cheeks as well, though a very short beard frosted by gray hair obscures the skin hanging beneath his chin. His dark, coarse black hair has been flattened beneath his helmet, with only short and greasy lengths protruding from it's base. Filth, dust and blood stain the entirety of Varuuz's clothes, and his skin has been turned an almost healthy looking shade of tan which is darkened further by sweat and grime.

Varuuz: Once, a young man named Rylad Voras, he has since stopped using his
given name. Since joining the guild of anti-paladins, he has gone by Varuuz,
rather than the given name which ties him to the father he hardly knew and
mother who perished giving birth to him.

Father: A retired Seantryn templar who helped run and protect the shrine to
the gods of the light, while keeping a residence on the outskirts of Aturi.
When his wife, Varuuz's mother died, he took to drinking. The event of his
sons birth combining with his wifes death shook the man's faith to the core.
He stayed often in the city of Seantryn Modan, hiding in the sewers to pray,
neglecting the son who was rapidly growing up in the village. The few times
he spoke to his son, it was after drinking heavily, and always consisted of
half remembered dogma. Loudly, he would proclaim "this is not all we are" and
other tenets of his broken faith. Eventually, alcohol and grief, mostly
alcohol, killed the man leaving his 11 year old son to fend for himself.

Afflicted with a wanderlust, the young man rarely stayed out of trouble, and
it was not long before the boy was exiled. His father had imparted no social
skills upon the boy, so much so that his hygiene still lacks greatly. In
dealing with people, he was often unecessarily harsh and truly could not
empathize with anyone. Quickly, he learned that they valued gold coins for
whatever reason, and became a cut purse living in the dark streets of
Seantryn Modan. The game of survival of the fittest was obvious to Varuuz
even then. No one could be trusted, no one truly cared for anyone else-
everything which they did was a coldly calculated survival technique with a
veneer of moral superiority cast over it. By the time Varuuz was 16, he had
become disgusted with the lack of self awareness in seemingly everyone he
met, but saw potential in the guild of anti-paladins, the Legion as they
called themselves. Varuuz planned to prey on Thera itself, and his fellow
humans in particular. To Varuuz, humans represent a certain kind of purity in
body, and he believes all the other races are simply modified humans. Killing
humans gives the man pleasure, eating them, or pieces of them is ecstasy- to
collect their soul, divine.

For more than twenty long years of his life, Varuuz has indulged his primal
urges as he felt them. Murdered, stolen and deceived anyone he desired, and
tasted of their flesh when opportunity presented itself- and even drank the
very souls of some. In all his years, venturing forth from the city of
Seantryn Modan, Varuuz has never trusted a single soul- often living high in
the mountains of Thera off of the foolish who might attempt to climb them. A
lone existence does not both the road hardened anti-paladin, but a nagging
feel tugs at his mind. The feeling that he lacks a greater purpose than
fulfilling his own wanton desires. Initiates of the Cult of the Ruby Scarab
have often preached to the anti-paladin of their Father, the Lich God
Scarabaeus, Father of Devils.  While much of what they spouted in their
garbled fashions intrigued Varuuz, the anti-paladin is hesitant to draw the
attention of a God who's very nature is as dangerous as his own- and
infinitely more capable of unspeakable cruelties than he.

Caution sits most heavily on the mind of the anti-paladin now, best to draw
the attention of such a being on it's own terms as Varuuz' survival would
likely depend on it.
