Description
Looking very much like the stereotypical drow, this dusky-skinned man has
an ageless complexion, silver hair, and eyes with colour reminiscent of
blood that has ebbed slowly from a vein, but has yet to brighten in the air.
He is dressed extremely fashionably, and that part of his clothing that is
not utilitarian is clearly of priceless weave. So much so that one might
wonder how he could possibly afford it. The remainder of his outfit seems
chosen for practicality, be it the satchel of softened leather that breathes
an intoxicating cocktail of scents into the air each time it moves, or the
light armor that affords him minimal protection without sacrificing his
mobility.
He carries himself with an air of confidence -- nay, arrogance, begging the
question as to whether he gets away with it through hidden power, or
alternatively cannot back it up at all, in which case the predators of the
realm will soon make short work of him. His weaponry is light, if it is
weaponry at all. Small knives, a walking staff, a basic whip... look
barely sufficient to keep him alive, unless he is particularly skilled with
them. The discipline with which he controls his facial features indicates
that perhaps he is one of those skilled in magic.
His eyes are calm and assured. His nose aquilane, between chiseled
cheekbones and below a smooth brow marked only by thin silver eyebrows.
His lips are surprisingly full for a male drow, almost human-like.
Role
Attempting the transformation
Added Fri Mar 21 12:56:22 2008 at level 47:
Much progress has been made in his studying of how to manipulate death.
However, there is more to learn, and if he is to prevail, he must put
his own life on the line. His hopes, his dreams, his kingdom (for
there is no heir as yet).
Vicaxion has decided to accept the aid of the Conservator, and take
his place amongst the Kings of the Desert. It pains him to turn
away from the secrets of the liches, but he believes that the gods
of light would take an active hand should they fear another lich that
takes an active role in Thera, rather than being content to abide.
He's heard that others have failed to make it through the process
of mummification whilst being held in their body. So there is much
at risk, and Vicaxion knows fear as he has not known fear before.
There is so much to do. And the few subjects he has turned to serving
him need him. He does not intend to let them down if he lives.
At least he knows his patron does indeed exist. He was right to
hold fast in the face of the whisperings about Enlilth. May
the magic of divine Twist be sufficient to infuse his being.
Long live the King!
Enlilth and shaken faith
Added Sun Feb 24 02:37:26 2008 at level 32:
Whilst hurrying to his guild in order to check a theory of
his in the library there, Vicaxion heard a disembodied voice.
His initial suspicion was that it was one of the disgusting
(and unproductive) street urchins that plagued the Seantryn Modan.
Quite why the Empress allowed her city to get into this
state is beyond him! Anyhow, the voice...
When Vicaxion realised that his training would have spotted
any streetchild, he extrapolated from the available information and
surmised that it must be a minion of Enlilth, for it spoke
of Greed, Envy, and Strength, just like the priests of the same.
Vicaxion reflected that it was unfortunate that he had responded
as he had -- by scowling and demanding the speaker reveal his
face to the King. Shaken, he went to get a much needed boost
to his confidence in the world about him, by heading to
a magic emporium and demanding (he's not too tactful) that Twist
give him an immediate sign to show that magic is the supreme
power. However, no such sign came. None has ever come!
Vicaxion's faith is somewhat shaken.
(As an aside -- please remember that I have the macho flaw. One
of the effects of that is that everything, no matter how powerful,
appears broadly of my own strength. I intend to reflect
this in any dealings with immortals. So just be aware that
I'm not trying to be an asshole. Appreciate that a god might
still take offense though. Thanks.)
Magistrate at last
Added Sat Feb 23 12:16:55 2008 at level 32:
It has been a long hard slog, and Vicaxion has died a lot when
attempting to bring down those he knows to be criminals, even if
they haven't been marked as such for their attacks on him.
However, at last he has found himself a place in the barracks, where
his food needs are met, and where he gets paid whilst studying,
thus replenishing his royal treasury.
He has enjoyed his verbal sparring with the Provost. The
way he can make veiled threats and insults but with enough
ambiguity to get away with it. Although the Provost is
giving as good as he gets on most occasions. An enjoyable
battle of wits. Much better than the imbecile Jeremiciah,
whom Vicaxion wants to kill, on account of being attacked under the
nose of the elf but the elf refusing to even investigate because
Vicaxion did not cry out like a common peasant when attacked.
Vicaxion is looking to kill the elf, although since forbidden to by
the Provost, it will have to be subtle.
Perhaps simply a less than healthy potion slipped into his things...
A problem with applying to the Spire
Added Sun Jan 27 05:22:31 2008 at level 19:
Vicaxion never learnt to write. He had scribes for that. He
does know how to read though, as ye need to check on thy scribes'
honesty. He doesn't want people to know, but he has opened up to
one Magistrate. But he no longer wants that one to write for him,
as he heard that one made a spelling mistake and almost ruined
his own application.
Vicaxion is therefore seeking to learn to write. His first
attempts were unsuccessful, as (a) he subconciously considers it to
be beneath a King to write his own messages, and (b) pens remind
him of wands, even a lump of charcoal, and he gets distracted
by thoughts of what magic might burst loose and ruin his work.
However, he has now renewed his efforts and plans to visit the
guildmaster for another lesson very soon.
Religion
Added Sun Jan 27 05:03:09 2008 at level 19:
Twist... god of magic. So essentially a god of power.
Does not the strongest power ultimately come from magic? Is not
magic the foundation of Vicaxion's Kingdom of Luth Lor, being
what gives the royal family supremacy?
It is magic that drew him to this realm, for magic is known
as the only way to master death. And master death he will. Although
the writings of Khardrath are curious, and stimulating. Could it
also be that the need for a soul is what drew him to the
Prime Material plane? How ironic then, that he would sacrifice
it in an instant to gain what he lusts for. What the divine
Lord Twist will help him achieve. Vicaxion wonders if this "Twist" is the
same god as the immortal Naxos of Luth Lor's pantheon.
Weakness
Added Fri Jan 25 03:19:22 2008 at level 13:
Vicaxion has finally come to terms with his reality. His powerful
shapeshifting magics, which have always run in the royal family,
seem not to function here, leaving him as little more than a
typical man. This has given him a sense of urgency about learning the
ways of the necromancers. He must regain magical power if he is
to rule, whatever Kingdoms he concerns himself with.
Why these particular "flaws"?
Added Sun Jan 20 14:12:00 2008 at level 5:
Macho -- because of his former life as a ruler. Bear in mind
that he still thinks he IS a ruler.
Hemophiliac -- the result of generations of inbreeding that the royal
family has practiced.
Why the tribunal?
Added Sun Jan 20 11:28:09 2008 at level 1:
To be honest, he would just as readily side with the Empire, as he is
used to a structured way of life, and cannot really envisage another kind
of society, nor way of making one's way in life.
However, he has heard that one can command guards before centurions.
One particular inconvenience of passing through the portal is that his
servants could not withstand the magical forces, and thus he has none
to wait upon his needs and whims. A couple of guards should suffice
nicely... yes...
And why in the necromancer guild?
Added Sun Jan 20 11:25:16 2008 at level 1:
Pretty straightforward. He's studying death, so as to assume mastery
over it. And the necromancers know more than the rest.
So why's he in Thera?
Added Sun Jan 20 11:24:37 2008 at level 1:
Vicaxion consulted the Royal Magician about death, and as said magician saw
an opportunity to be rid of Vicaxion and assume the crown himself (Vicaxion being
young and heirless), he spun a tale about the need to step from this world
into another, called Thera's by most of its inhabitants. So Vicaxion passed
through the portal they created together, not realising that the dust he was to
use as a focus to return was actually Theran in origin as well.
Vicaxion's stuck. He just doesn't know it yet.
So why is he evil?
Added Sun Jan 20 11:20:35 2008 at level 1:
Vicaxion's queen died. She was largely chosen for political reasons, so
Vicaxion was not hugely grieved. However, he was frustrated, because death
was the first thing to balk his power. This came to gnaw at him, first
subconciously, but then as the frustration developed, in bloomed in
his conciousness and he took action, as was his wont.
Vicaxion set out to conquer death, and whilst he does not see himself as
evil, he is, on account of his extreme ruthlessness. It is just that up
until this point, he's never had reason to act evil. His subjects could
be handled without such practices. But death... death will require more.
And so, Vicaxion will do what he deems necessary. And since death will
require some research, murder will be necessary. And so Vicaxion's
evil emerges from his nature into the unsuspecting world.
Background
Added Sun Jan 20 11:16:15 2008 at level 1:
Vicaxion has, until recently, been ruler of a kingdom where the people
are very similar to the drow. Intensely magical, and whilst surface dwelling, their
world's sun emits light in the infra-red. They even appear drow-like.
However, they are not an evil society, and Vicaxion was, to all accounts
a fair-minded (but extremely harsh) ruler. Power meant a great deal to him.
It meant everything.
