Description
The arial before you is rather small of build, only standing around five feet
in height, though he appears to be stooping slightly with a bit of a hunch to
his back. His eyes are small and beady with creases showing at the skin.
Where once his feathers used to reach all the way to the eyes, they are bare
around the base and the feathers only start growing from a receded point.
His overcoat is of a mottle dark gray and his undercoat a lighter gray making
for an almost checkered pattern. The feathering behind his eyes is a stark
white that fades to a golden orange color tip just before the neckline. His
head is crested with a black feather tip that has spots of white in it
cresting his head almost like a feathered fin. His beak is average length
and has small cracks in it showing the age of this old arial.

The Cowardly Roadrunner

When Vindelph was a child, there was no one he idolized more than his father,
Torathil Constillian. He saw the work he put in as a guard and knew what it
was like to have this enormous sense of pride. To see the gleam in his
father's eye and the look of respect and admiration from the citizens of
Ayr'Trinil. They weren't the highest class of citizen, but they lived well
amongst the middle classes. Always eager to learn and experience more he
would go to work with him as often as he could get away with it. When
Vindelph was just becoming a teenager he found out his father was going to
work in Voralion City and wanted to go so bad it stung. It was during a
particularly important bout of testing at the schools in Ayr'Trinil though
so his father forebade it. Vindelph had picked up a thing or two, however,
and managed to vanish just outside the school. He stuck to the shadows and
followed his father down the winding path below the city. It was just
northeast of Tir-Talath that his father met with a cadre of other guards. I
thought he was volunteering? What was he doing with all of these others? He
decided to continue hiding and follow at a safe distance. They continued to
Voralian City, and changed Vindelph's life forever. He watched as the group
of men met up with a dirty duergar just outside the bridge to the northwest.
He handed them each a sack of coins and they all nodded to him in turn as
they entered the town. Then each of the guards walked into the orphanage in
town... and began slaughtering the children. He watched as these vile men
cut down dozens of kids unable to defend themself. And the worst... The part
that still causes his stomach to churn... was the same gleam in his fathers'
eye that he would witness as he smiled at the citizens of his town. Vindelph
was frozen. He didn't know who to go to. The guards here were unknown to
him. They could be the ones here doing the slaughtering for all that he
knew. Wait! The Fortress! They were somewhere nearby right? Surely they
could stop this wickedness! He took off running as fast as he was able. The
Fortress was in the hills to the northwest right? He ran over so many hills.
so many plains of grass. But he couldn't find them. He fell asleep
sobbing to himself. If only he'd have been quicker. Stronger. More
intelligent. Those children were dead just as much because of him as they
were because of the cowards killing them. To this day he often feels
burdened by the decisions of his family that day. Of his Father's
willingness to assault the weak. To gather a cadre of horrible individuals
and overrun those who can't defend themselves. Of his own inability to act.
Of his own poor decisions and the results because of it. He never returned
home. He decided then and there he would fight against those odds. He would
bring honor to his family name and show that strength is found in honor.
Early life in Galadon
Added Tue Nov 19 08:55:17 2019 at level 35:
Vindelph traveled to the biggest city he knew of, Galadon. There he lived on
the streets for a time.Until a day when some of the cities thugs tried to
mug Vindelph for a pie he had stolen from the bakery. Starving, he had
fought voraciously. He was not particularly skilled but he had managed to
fend them off from sheer savagery. Fortunately for Vindelph, Shirrintal
Corlinth was watching the display. He apparently saw something in the way
that Vindelph fought that he would be able to work with. He invited Vindelph
to train with the assassin's guild. With no other options, starving and
alone, Vindelph agreed though he wasn't sure it was a line of work he'd be
particularly good at given his friendly persona. But Shirrintal would teach
him many things over the years to come.Including that a cheerful
disposition is just another tool that can be used in the arts of the guild.
Dedication and Honor

Vindelph found serenity in his training. He watched as the other students
would gather together and go and practice their abilities in the world. He
knew he would advance quicker if he went with them, but it felt too akin to
the gathering that his father had been a part of. No. He'd train by
himself. Which had it's own advantages he learned. While the others
advanced ranks quickly, they were only marginally skilled in the techniques
they had learned. Vindelph, travelling alone, often found that he would
master what Shirrintal was teaching him before he moved on.
Shirrintal, always keen on observation, asked Vindelph about his training
alone. "I value my honor. If I cannot defeat an adversary by myself, then I
don't deserve the success," Vindelph said. Shirrintal replied, "You're
training to be an assassin boy! What honor is there in sliding a blade into
someones gut from the shadows?" "If I've tailed someone long enough to get a
blade through them unseen, then they've had every opportunity to witness me
making a mistake. It is still my skill against theirs," Vindelph replied.
"There's no more Ehren Guard you fool boy," and Shirrintal returned his focus
to his students sparring.
Ehren Guard? Vindelph asked Shirrintal about it but he would just wave it
off. He tried looking in the Lyceum and could find nothing there either.
Vindelph had only seen one beacon of honor in his travels. The Lord
Korsgaard. He didn't know necessarily that he wanted to follow the Lord, but
he at least wanted to seek him out to see what he might be able to teach
Vindelph of his Legendary Honor.
A Decision Was Made

After much contemplation of what he had discussed with Lord Korsgaard, and a
particularly enlightening conversation with Lady Daphedee, Vindelph realized
that the shame he had held for his family was in fact a point of strength for
him. He learned to embrace that past and how it forged him into the man that
he had become. Focusing on the path he now see's before him, he has gathered
what he hopes to be the beginning steps to the Hall of Pathfinders and is
prepared to deliver them to Lord Korsgaard as soon as he is able.
The Path on Two Legs

Speaking with Lord Korsgaard, Vindelph delivered the items for the path on
four legs. The Lord was pleased with the way Vindelph presented the items and
even bestowed great Pride upon Vindelph by telling him how he judged those of
Honor more harshly but that Vindelph was doing very well. Leaving the shrine
filled with elation at the discussion with his lord, Vindelph began the Path
of Two Legs.
A few of the creatures listed in the tome Vindelph was aware of already and
found with little difficulty. He slew many of the beasts but at last came to
one that proved quite treacherous. Trying to find the great winged beast
past the wastes Vindelph first succumbed to an avalanche. Then, continuing
on his journey he stumbled into a ravine that bruised and battered his body
until it perished. At long last Vindelph discovered the dragon, just in time
for his pouch of nourishment to crumble. He began to starve and fell victim
to the reaper once again. But Vindelph persevered, and though this dragon
was much mightier than the rest, succeeded in vaniquishing his foe.
Two more beasts yet to slay, Vindelph was prepared to finish his task and at
long last begin the perilous Path on Three Legs.
The Path on Three Legs

Vindelph completed the Path of Two Legs and spoke with lord Korsgaard. He
decided that he would take the path not yet taken, and eliminate the enemies
of Virtue. Lord Korsgaard chose three that he could currently harm with
Tegerek, Sylvari, and Aztezul to slay and three more would be chosen when
more of the enemies of Virtue were found. Vindelph asked for the sixth
opponent because he wanted to keep the number holy in honor of those who came
before him and slew either six of the Dragons or Kings. He would get the
practice he needed at leading others and eventually work at freeing those
under their rule as well, but for his road to being a Pathfinder he wanted to
blaze his own trail.
The Budding Thespian
Added Tue Dec 17 16:17:09 2019 at level 51:
While training, Vindelph came upon a most peculiar situation. A playwright
was having issues with his actress and actor. Watching the spectacle of the
incompetent actors unfold before him, it became revealed that the writer
wanted to change his script to include a new vantage point, of an assassin.
Something Vindelph was well acquainted with. Learning this Vindelph made
himself apparent to the writer and began listening to his plea.
He recited a few lines for the director, and made an attempt at singing that
could have easily been misunderstood to be a mating call for the Taglo's, and
instead decided to utilize his avian vocals and chirp a tune. After showing
his prowess, where he heavily fell into the tropes of actors and began
embellishing like a fool, and then also tried to spar the other actor and
punched him so hard he died, Vindelph convinced the playwright that he'd be
able to fill in the role. He told Vindelph he'd get in touch after he had
wrote more of the script so that they could begin working together.
Intrigued by his desire to perform and still very uncomfortable in his
abilities, Vindelph decided to work on it in the mean time and went to the
Inn of the Eternal Star where he recited poetry for the patrons. Though
still nervous, he did gain some confidence and performed a poem by Elladorius
that didn't get any rotten fruit thrown at him.He looked forward to hearing
more from the playwright and where this side route may take him in his
life-hood pursuit of Honor.
