Description
The storm giant woman before you is slender for her race, her build so lithe
it reminds one of elven proportions - a thirteen foot tall, green-skinned
elf. Her dark azure hair is curled and tangled as seaweed, bound at the nape
of her graceful neck with a simple leather thong. She is fresh faced, with
blue freckles scattered beneath serene viridescent eyes and over a broad
nose. Early laugh lines mark a wide smile.
Her relatively thin left wrist is ensnared with a cruel-looking iron
shackle, two thick chain links still dangling from it. Her other wrist is
encircled only with a pale scar. She rubs it absently often, as if missing
the existing shackle's twin.

Character Background
Added Mon Jun 2 12:13:43 2025 at level 10:
Vornisca Lashingwind was born to minor gentry of Hamsah. The House of
Lashingwind was one of the rare few storm giant enclaves within Hamsah, the
scions of a long-lived caravan guard company that had grown rich protecting
merchants both in the desert and at sea.
Vornisca, as the third born daughter, was expected to complete higher learning
in the sciences and arts. She was a diligent student and kind soul, and for
entry to university she wrote an essay criticizing the nobility and mercantile
castes for the treatment of the poor within Hamsah.
This normally wouldn't have raised too much of a fuss (young, rich students
were often writing lofty essays that most in the jaded nobility rolled their
eyes over and sniggered at), but unfortunately the Hamsah Thieves Guild had
other plans. Over the years, the Lashingwind family had often managed to
thwart various robberies and ambushes the Guild had undertaken. A mid-level
catburglar came across Vornisca's essay while stealing chemical components
from the university, and reported it to his superiors. Sensing an opportunity,
the Guild used their powerful political contacts to raise Vornisca's essay's
issue to the Sultan, and manipulated him and his advisors to become indignant
and to take action.
Thus Vornisca at the age of seventeen was arrested for Treasonous Incitement,
and sentenced to ten years in the Sultan's dungeon.
She would have languished there for the entirety of her sentence, if not for a
traveling barrister, a worshipper of Zizaerix. Hired as an investigator by the
Lashingwind family, after two years of diligent scrutiny, the barrister
uncovered damning evidence of bribes and blackmail by the Thieves Guild in
Vornisca's case. The Sultan, facing embarrassment, ordered her released.
Vornisca had borne the years stoically, and with visits from the barrister,
had become quite familiar with the conspiracy that had sent her to the darkest
depths of prison -leading her to have a special disdain for the organized
Thieves Guilds within the protected cities of Thera. Now, inspired by the
barrister, she has a passion - to uncover dark conspiracies across Thera and
expose them to the Light, and to defend those who have been framed or falsely
accused, and to shame those who twist justice to serve its opposite.
Wanton Vengeance
Added Sat Jun 7 23:32:35 2025 at level 32:
Vornisca tossed and turned on her cot within the Fortress, sweat beading
across her brow. She woke and sat up with a sudden yelp, then collapsed back
amidst her blankets, taking a deep, unsteady breath. She had been back in the
prison, again. But this time for different charges.
That morning, she volunteered for the guard shift on the walls of the
Fortress, anticipating a time alone with her thoughts, to grip on the
whirlwind of things that had happened since arriving here and swearing another
oath. A break, in other words, of witnessing things that put her time in the
dungeons to shame. Darsylon, on fire, butchered citizens at her feet. The
elves of the plains of the past scattering in fear from the relentless assault
of adventurers, uncaring and gleeful.
And then they were attacked, just as she was getting lost in her thoughts.
Her brothers and sisters said he sought the Chasm. An assassin. He brought in
orc in tow with him, and Vornisca fought them off, pushing back waves of
assaults. Then, she took the offensive.
She cornered the assassin in the hills south of the Fortress, and he fumbled a
potion to his mouth and shimmered away. Grim faced, she closed her eyes, and
opened them to the Hamsah altar.
She stepped from the altar to a side street, and she watched him weaving
through the crowd, panicked, clutching the gaping wound she had left on his
shoulder, blood spattering against the cobblestones.
She gritted her teeth. Hamsah. She could feel the eyes of the guards on her,
the weight of suspicion and guilt. Ducking into an alleyway merely steps after
him, she looked around. They were alone. She whipped her poleaxe from her
shoulder and charged at him, striking him a glancing blow to the head. He fled
again, and she snapped to, her eyes widening.
What had she done? Attacking a fleeing assassin within a city under Tribunal
law? It would be one thing if she had been actively defending one of the
Light. But this was wanton vengeance.
She had hung her head in shame, and walked back to the Fortress.
Back in bed, Vornisca buried her face into her hands. She must admit her guilt
to the leadership of the Tribunal, and confess her disregard for the Code to
her beloved Zizaerix.
A Break for Truths
Added Sun Jun 29 18:17:29 2025 at level 51:
Vornisca dangled her large feet from the Fortress's walls, looking down at the
snowy valley below. She laid her enormous polehammer across her knees, and
thought of the Truths she had discovered.
First was that while she had been earnest and forthright when committing
crimes, the scars she had received, and the burden she had to put on her
friend Provincial Larusae were unsustainable. While she was certain she served
and protected the Light in each and every instance, it was counterbalanced by
causing Darkness to bloom within others hearts. She would need to be smarter;
she had begun luring those who caused strife within the cities outside their
limits, and she would need to be more tactical. Her eyes narrowed as she
thought of the Reavers that ran rampant in Galadon so often. There were other
ways of defeating them (and defending Galadon and the fine people within) than
charging at them every time she saw them victimizing those of the Light.
Second was that simply being of the Light did not mean a person would not
deceive. This had been shocking to her, at first. She had dutifully and
honestly reported the crimes of some of her compatriots when asked by agents
of the Spire, and the anger of her companions of the Light had surprised her.
Did the Truth not bring them closer to the Light? Lying was a stepping stone
to oblivion for her; she was dismayed that others could not see that. She had
tried to educate on this matter, but their anger had blinded them and put up a
wall between them and understanding. She frowned at this thought, and decided
to double down on bringing her friends to enlightenment.
Another was sharing a religion with those of dark heart. She had balked at
first when asked to share her experiences with an evil Magistrate. But she
realized even the smallest kernel of Truth might one day blossom in the hearts
of the dark, so she had become more comfortable with sharing with them, and
listening to their stories. Still, she kept an eye on these, for although they
might accept Truth now, sin was ever close at hand to those tainted by
Darkness. She decided then she would keep a close eye on them, while still
filling their soul with honesty.
The last was the dreadful Village. She scowled as she thought of them, and the
patience others within the Fortress showed the enemies of Magic. Did they not
realize the Village was led by the dark of heart? Their philosophy and lies
about Magic would twist even the most charitable of souls. As she had told
many others, if it was up to her, the head would be bound by the orb within
the Fortress, to keep magic users across Thera safe. But it was not, so she
must bring the war to the Village where she could, and not let them any
respite.
She took a breath and nodded as peace filled her soul, decisions made.
