Description

A slender figure of a human male appears before you. Soothing facial features - high cheekbones, straight nose, full lips, well-groomed eye-brows and a manicured goatee - are offset by a pair of fiery eyes of pure emerald flame. Slightly elongated ears carry numerous iron piercings. A simple loop of pure adamantite adorns each of the nine fingers. A pinky on the right hand is missing, leaving nothing but a charred stump. A perfectly bald head shows a gruesome V-shaped scar that has healed over time. A closer look at the figure before you reveals an intricate web of tattooes in the shape of a flame.

Chapter IV: Understanding the Curse of the Ancients

With Lady Iunna's blessing, the fire within my veins has gotten
stronger.  It boils and enrages my spirit and at times is difficult to
contain.  But with the strength of my prayers, I shall learn to tame
it.  In my travels with gnomes, I have discovered that perhaps a more
scientific and tinkering approach needs to be taken towards my curse.
I shall thus set out on the following path.

Prognosis:  My blood is cursed with the metal of mithril.

Desired resolution:  A complete cure would be entirely destructive to
my ability to heal rendering me impotent.  The curse must be
preserved but tamed and contained.

Problem:  How do I contain and tame the curse?

Proposed solution:  First, I shall study with the darkest necromancers
of Thera who shall curse me with their maledictions, which I, with
Lady Iunna's help, shall cure.  Second, I shall find demonologists who
are cursed by paranormal and I shall fight their demons.  Third, I
shall find a master of elements who shall try to freeze my blood.
Fourth, I shall drink the elven blood that is immune to mithril,
hoping that it would mix with mine. Doing the foregoing, will allow me
to gain further understanding into my curse.

Chapter III: The Healing Fire

The lung-tearing cough rippled through the cave.  "I do not have much
time, my boy", whispered the svirfneblin shaman.  "I do not wish you
to see me in this weakened state.  You have been by my side for
fifteen years and you have served me well.  You came to me at an age
where I thought you were too fargone from training, but you have
proven to be one of the most talented students."

A pink cloud of blood appeared as the svirfneblin shaman coughed
again.  "The curse of the ancients within you has become your
blessing, my boy.  Without igniting the fire within your veins, you
would not have been able to achieve the knowledge of healing that you
hold now.  You have surpassed the ability of your master, my boy.
Begone!  I wish to die alone.  Do not forget, my boy, use the healing
fire within!"  The svirfneblin shaman took his last breath.

Chapter II: The Shaman

"The curse of the ancients is within you, my boy", said the
svirfneblin shaman.  "Unlike others of your kind, you reject all
things mithril.  I know not of the cure for this affliction but rest
assured, you will never wield your order's dagger again.  You are
still young, my boy, and I shall teach you what I know and perhaps one
day you shall find a cure.  But if you become my apprentice, you shall
never wield a bladed weapon again and you shall swear off the
non-sense of becoming a warrior."

Chapter I: The Ordeal of the Dagger

The boys anxiously formed a single file.  Their headmaster, a seasoned
veteran of battle, stood in front of a huge anvil holding up an
intricately crafted mithril dagger.  The excitement among the boys
grew.  After all, this was the final rite of passage, the time when
the boys gave up their wooden weapons and joined the ranks of true
warriors.  Their years of hard training - years of blood, sweat and
tears - would finally be rewarded.  Just like the boy in front of him,
Vythigor extended his right arm exposing his forearm.  He did not fear
what was to come.  After all, he tollerated pain better than all of
his contemporaries.

As the headmaster drew the mithril dagger to carve the intricate seal
of their order, Vythigor's skin began to smolder and blister.  Unlike
many boys before him, Vythigor was unable to suppress his yelp of
pain.  The headmaster stopped and curiously looked into Vythigor's
eyes.  "I did not think it would be you, son", said the headmaster.
Then with a swift motion and without warning, he severed Vythigor's
right pinky.  "Open the gates", ordered the headmaster.  "You are no
longer one of us, Vythigor."
