Description

Here before you is a duergar of the warrior path. Typical height, but anything but typical stock. A giant chest and muscles that bulge out from every point. This duergar is strong in bruteness and with apparent agility. Some visible scars suggest a veteran of combat. He stands upright, proud and represents himself with civility. You notice two large swords and more sticking out of his pack. You further notice more about his health and clothing.

Williad Wahmanster has one virtue that is unique to his kin and his peers.
Dedication.

Williad overcame his fear of that damn floating fireball and came out from the underdark.
Williad was uncivilized, uneducated and unskilled. He would have been
destined to be a street thug, but if not for this one virtue.  Williad wanted
more out of life, but he hated the surface wretches while also admiring their
civility.  Despite not being able to speak the surface tongue, he managed to
join the warriors' guild and began training.Slowly he developed his
warrior abilities and began learning social norms.  He never really fit
anywhere but that did not deter him.  He kept at, learning and developing.  
Williad was always impressed by the Imperial army, they marched through with
precision and power.  He knew that he was far too uncivilized to be of any
importance in the Empire.    He did not know why they fascinated him and he
was certainly jealous.
Over time he became to accept the surface wretches more, but continued to
hate the sun snivellers.

The years flowed on and Williad began to tire of the surface and headed back
to the underdark and took up residence in the drow city Teth.  But that
special virtue of his revealed itself again and he spent years training with
the cleric there, improving his sword swings until perfection.
One day a patroller took a disliking to him and struck him and the battle
began.  The patroller stole his heavy girdle which he laid on the ground
while training.The fight we close, both were hurt and now Williad was
starving for his food was in that stolen girdle.  Williad had no choice now,
either he would kill the patroller or he would die.  In the final moment,
Williad started swiping two nightmare blades in a flurry of attacks, hitting
once, twice, three, four five, six, seven, eight times and the patroller
died.   Williad flexed his muscles and it was at this moment he knew that he
was actually very tough.  He yelled out loud "Me Tough Ya".

And so Williad ventured back out to look for prey to test his new found
battle skills.All the while the oath was in his mind.  He knew he was a
strong enough warrior for the Empire and he had no fear of the eternal abyss.
could he fake the civility.  He liked the imperial civility but was
worried he did not have what it took.   He kept thinking, should I give oath
or learn more.

More Time Passes

Added Fri Feb 12 05:45:11 2021 at level 37:
More time passes and Williad has grown, first giving oath to the empire, and
then being promoted from sheathed blade to full blade.  Williad's sword is
now bloodied and he now finds the sect hall more at home.  The discomfort of
the surface is starting to wane and thoughts of the underground are becoming
more limited to his dreams.

A new War Master has been placed and Williad gets along with them okay.
War Master seem tolerant of Williad still not having refined speech.  Williad
did make one blunder when referring to elf villager as surface wretch.  Old
habits, War Master not get offended by the remark, which was lucky.

Williad is always worried that his civility will be tested more as he reaches
for the Elite position.There can be many Blades, but only finite Elites. 
Williad is concerned that a high born surface dweller may frown upon Williad
if he is to become elite over them.

Despite this Williad continues to place himself in the very tough category. 
While of the 35th title he managed to disarm and snatch the waver dancer from
the captain.  He was most impressed with himself.  Following this he managed
to defeat the Elite Triton guard for the barbed sword and he wondered if any
warrior of this title could be capable of killing such a formidable guard.

Williad has also had his first thinking on difficult imperial politics. 
Though for now he will remain silent or else he might be banished.  The topic
was this.  He was surprised to see scroll from new Emperor saying that the
head of a blood mage will not be taken.Williad thinks the head belongs at
the Imperial Throne by law and all reasonable effort should be made to put it
there.Williad thinks the move seems to show a sign of weakness from the
Emperor.  Not only conflicting imperial law but leaving the Black Sect hall
vulnerable to being picked off by a stronger village.  But Williad know that
he is a mere Blade and maybe he not understand complex matters that an
Emperor faces.  In any event Williad knows that he must follow and respect
Emperor at all costs.

Pinnacle

Added Tue Feb 23 05:44:47 2021 at level 51:
Williad finally had reached the pinnacle and continued to increase his power.
This came training with the Macalla monks and accumulation of armor, weapons
and magical tools.
Williad's fear of his uncivilized speech being an impediment has not been realised.
To his amazement, the War Master and Emperor seem to respect Williad greatly.
His toughness and knowledge has helped him greatly.
His feelings about the Emperor seem to have changed.  Initially he thought he 
was weak for not taking the Emperors head of bloody magician.  Technically
that may not have changed, but Williad finds himself liking the Emperor.
Actually Williad also likes the War Master.  The War Master aided him greatly to
reach the pinnacle.   Williad now finds himself in a position where the two people
blocking further advancement he likes.  
Williad wants more power, but also he likes his new imperial family.
He decided to keep helping other blades, other empire, build it strong.
And perhaps his dedication will be rewarded one day.

A Set Back

Outrageous! That is how Williad feels right now.  When Williad heard about the demise of 
the Warmaster, and friend Atrellio he expected to be promoted in short order.
But the position went to an inferior blade.  Worse it went to a duergar of similar age
meaning Williad may never get promoted.   Williad has concluded that the position was
not one of merit, but politics or hastily given.  Either way, the Emperor has shown his
weakness again and now Williad can no longer look upon the Emperor with fondness.
Now he is not sure how to proceed, he is not skilled in the art of politics so he has decided
To be careful about who he talks about his feelings.  Williad must wait for the right
opportunity to present itself.

War Master

Finally the opportunity came and Williad took his well-deserved position on the council.
Williad thought the last two war-masters were a disgrace, short lived and poor leadership.
Williad has so far been a strong War Master.  Fighting against incredible odds.
Williad once again likes the Emperor.  Williad is not one to hold grudge for being passed
up previously.  Above all he wants a strong Empire and wants good relationship with 
the Emperor and the council.
Williad does not wish to conspire behind the scenes, the position of Emperor will or 
will not come, Williad make strong Empire however he can.
Williad has found new appreciation for centurions and will call them as much as possible.
He thinks many use too tactically.  Williad thinks centurions are a symbol of Imperial 
power as well as source of revenue for the Empire.
Williad has become increasingly angry with the village for killing his centurions.
Williad has killed both the commander and drillmaster several times for this.
Williad continues to believe the head should be taken from the village and put in the throne.
Williad will continue to place centurions on the eastern road.  Williad admires the centurions
contribution to the Empire.

The Gods

When Williad dreamed of being able to read, to properly talk, to be treated
like a real citizen of the surface, he never imagined what subject his mind
would reach.  Lately Williad has been thinking about the gods.  He has never
spoken to a god and until recently, never imagined that he might.  As he has
ascended the imperial ranks to the War Master, his influence has increased
and so that may change.Willad noticed the influence of the dark god Morius,
through the High Priestess.  The High Priestess wanted to place a statute of
her god in the palace out of respect.  But the Emperor apparently changed his
mind, perhaps the influence of others or even the Empire god himself.  The
Empire god remains a mystery to Williad.  But he has listened to the words of
Qhefniz and Rathgar, who are destuviens.  Earlier Williad demoted the Elite and
followed up with anathema when continually disprected.  But Destuvius brought
him back, suggesting the grand design is important to the Empire.

The Grand Design as explained by the priest is troubling to Williad as he
does not know how he fits in.  Williad has yet to fully intergrate and still
lacks the communication level, especially compared to the way the priest
speaks.Williad wonders if Rathgar and Qhefniz secretly look down on him
because of this.  Williad is a masterful tactician and pragmitist and is
willing to utilise the uncivilized, such as orcs or villagers to benefit the
Empire. But the Destuviens seem to follow absolutism and would rather lose
the codex than stand by an orc. On the other hand, Lord Destuvius is the
Empire god and so maybe this is the plan for the Empire.  Williad needs
guidance because he is limited to knowledge of Imperial Law and a desire to
make Empire strong in any way possible that did not conflict with said laws.

Williad also does not think Empire benefits from leaders that have the gift
of tongue and ear of the gods alone.  Williad thinks citizens of Thera
respect strength and power and Williad is the strongest of all the citizens
of the Empire.His enemies fear him which means potential recruits respect
him, sometimes enough to pledge.

Williad wants to know from Lord Destuvius if the grand design is his duty, or
if he can continue as he is, following Imperial laws and strengthening and
uniting Empire as he has been doing.  He also wants to know if he has pleased
the Empire god so far in his duties.
