Description
Grizzled and lean, this dwarf catches your gaze and evenly holds it in
return. His bearded face is youthful yet hard as if from a life born and
lived in opposition. His eyes are a curious mottling of green and brown
and though you try not to stare the patterns appear to shift and roil as
they sit deep between his sharp nose and brow. The pallor of his face
is seemingly healthy but the edges in places take on a paleness from
some prior illness barely overcome. A gruesome scar cuts across his
face, running the length from his forehead, down, and into his beard.
It is disgustingly fresh and swollen. He idly touches at it from time
to time and a flash of pain creases his eyes. Thin lips reveal little
emotion but a focused dedication to all around him. His beard, while clean
and well kept, is gathered in a simple leather cord at the bottom. Dressed
in heavy armors, he moves unburdened from the heft. A massive shield
finds home in his hand and protects his flank, and at his belt hangs the
shaft of a deadly flail. He idly clenches and relaxes his right hand,
and again you take note of peculiar mottling of his skin.

Of Origin:
Woreich came into the lands an orphan. His mother perished days before
he would have naturally arrived and he was cut from her womb as she
succumbed to a poison malady of unknown vector.
The entirety of the village was at the knell of death. Whether by malice
or innocuous, a poison or blight lay siege to the usually hardy dwarves.
Smoke and stench had lingered in a haze for an entire growing season,
the burn pit of bodies smoldering and added to daily.
No priest, no remedy, had yet been discovered. None would.
By the time Woreich reached his second birthing day, everyone in the
quarantined village was dead. Out of a hundred or sodwarves, only
he survived, scarred and mottled by the poison.
Unwelcome in Akan, his distant kin at least shepherded the young child
to Voralia where he found some semblance of safety in the shining city.
Of Guild:
Distraught at the injustice and loss of his world, a zealousness took
hold of him and he found himself guided to crusade within the guild
of shaman.
Of Sphere:
Perhaps contributing to his refusal to being stillborn, or in general
dwarven stubbornness, Woreich bears a Dedication rivaled by few.
There is no thing, nor goal, idea, or principle, that once he puts
his mind to he will not seek to accomplish.
Of Religion:
He is drawn to the Eternal Witch Ishuli. He is burdened with knowing
what and who contributed to the ruin of his village and life. Was it
nefarious? What could have been done to prevent or remedy the ailing?
These sort of questions plague his mind and take his focus. He will
seek out and document what he can of such poisons and maladies of
the lands along with what can be understood of them, and notably ways
to relieve, mitigate, or even cure such.
Of Venoms:
He bears the scars of the blight both visually and internally, his
skin and eyes mottled since clawing his way toward birth, and his mind
fixated on the above.
He shrugs off toxins and disease beyond the constitution of his
heritage, and in his anger at injustice seeks to turn that focused
anger upon those who disrupt the peaceable simple life of society
and community.
Of Tribunal:
Woreich will protect that which was stolen from him. Community.
Noble, simple work. Family.
He will keep vigilance over the cities.
But he yearns to one day prove himself competent enough to stamp out
criminals as a Vindicator of the Spire.
Of Vengeance:
Beneath his composure is a focused desire for revenge, not only for
the experiences of his life, but as a conduit for others. It is a
holy righteousness against the forces of discord and strife that
puts the innocent and noble at risk. He will meet a foe where they
are, complete in the safety and sanctity of his own faith, and force
upon them that which they do to him and others.
Growth.
Added Mon Jan 22 12:20:43 2024 at level 51:
Of Growth:
Woreich has ascended to the pinnacle of his guild. Some mastery of
holy prayers and venoms bolsters his confidence in his crusade.
His service to the Spire has only strengthened over time. War has
long plagued the cities, beleaguered by a menagerie of shapes from
the Outlanders and a foolish war stoked by Village ignorance. Each
faction is similarly regressive and undermines the prosperity and
peace Woreich wishes to see.
He struggles with some in the Spire, who align too closely to the
evil Empire, who corrupt if not pervert Order. These Magistrates
pursue personal agendas more than righteously defend the integrity
of the Law. To Woreich, he fully acknowledges the Law as born from
and upheld by virtue of the light.
Personally, Woreich hopes to find some history and understanding of
what led to the demise of his village. He knows so little, being so
young and later orphaned, to even begin trying to piece together
what sort of devastating disease wiped out his people and why such
fear kept him from Akan, instead being orphaned unto Voralia.
Of Ishuli:
Blessed by Ishuli, Woreich takes great inner pride that the
dedication and thoughtful reason he strives for is both recognized
and bolstered by the in-dwelling of his god. He strives daily
to be a standard for which such noble traits are seen and spread.
Of Research:
Much progress has been made in understanding the various diseases
and poisons encountered, including documentation of the origin,
vectors, ailment, maladies, and remains. Woreich hopes to better
understand what and who might have assailed his small village.
He also hopes that his work better helps others survive such
afflictions, and as a Magistrate, to identify what sicknesses
present as, including in death.
Of Vindicating:
Disorder and discord greatly bothers Woreich, as it is an itch
which cannot be scratched. Things unaligned, bent, must be set
straight, and one of the greatest grievances is criminality.
He balances his commitment to the Law with thoughtful vigilance
and seeking atonement or the death of criminals.
Reputations.

Of Reputations:
Woreich grows increasingly worried with events within the Spire. He
sees how some tilt order into darkness and greed, and often times
worse, to menacing the innocent out of a desire to inflict pain and
despair.
Of recent, he has seen Skaya, a drow thief, work closely with those
of the Eternal Night, the Scion. Skaya and Iskrith assaulted the
Marshall Horfik while he was with Woreich in the vail of Eil, killing
the warrior. Though Skaya did not strike Woreich, the vampyre did.
Such collusion with the night spoils the integrity of order and law.
Woreich sees Skaya as a poor choice competing for Vindicator as the
drow has no admiration for justice, only punishment. Woreich also
suspects the thief will leave the Spire to pursue power in the Chasm
if offered.
Beyond that, Woreich has seen the Provost Atrael often strike out at
law abiding innocent outside the cities, murdering without reason
and justifying it as 'that one is a thief' or 'he looked like a
magic-hater'. Woreich has no respect for Atrael.
Too often Magistrates withold reasonable restraint and embrace flimsy
excuses and grudges to torment others outside their duty.
Scars.

Of Scars:
While helping Amedia, Woreich found himself dispersed into the
sweeping sands of Azhan. Unbeknownst to him, Amedia sought help
and whether circumstantial or not, the dreadful Morius offered,
though Woreich thinks Amedia sought out Morius in supplication.
Morius would not let them die within the sands by natural cause,
prolonging the pain and punishment with his unholy power.
An offer was made. Woreich could see his friend flayed alive, or
he could accept a charitable gift, something from him to Morius.
Worse, he must feign great appreciation in it.
In shame and defeat, Woreich accepted this offer, this gift, and
Morius ran his appalling and slender finger across him, scarring
him
But Woreich frets greatly for what comes next, that this scar is
only the vessel for something sinister, a present which yet remains
boxed, unopened, until a later time.
Separately, Woreich continues to search for information about his
family and village, for some piece of knowledge to inform him
what may have occurred which left him orphaned. He seeks out his
god, Ishuli, for any thread to pursue, that the markings upon
his body may reveal more and justice be had.
