Description
The duergar stands approximately four feet six inches tall. Its
body is lean and wiry, lacking the broad bulk typical of surface
dwarves. The skin is a deep, matte black, almost charcoal in
appearance, with a faint oily sheen. Its face is angular and harsh,
with pronounced cheekbones and a square jaw.The eyes are solid red
with no visible whites, and a thick, dark beard covers most of
the lower face, appearing greasy and unkempt, with coarse strands
that tangle near the chest. Its hair is similarly dark and
oily, hanging limply from beneath a dented, unadorned helmet. The
armor is piecemeal and darkly colored, close-fitting and scuffed
from use, designed more for function than appearance. The hands
are long-fingered with rough, calloused skin, and the fingernails
are thick, yellowed, and cracked. The overall impression is
one of grime, darkness, and quiet menace.
Role
Wugfort, Duergar BattleRager of War
Added Sun Aug 24 13:43:10 2025 at level 43:
Wugfort was born in the endless dark of the Underdark, where shadows press against the stone
and the air tastes of iron and damp. From his first breath, he was taught the ancient truths
of his people: that magic is a poison, a force that mortals were never meant to wield. To the
true duergar, sorcery was not a gift but a sickness that had scarred Thera.
As a child, Wugfort saw proof of this everywhere. Collapsed caverns where unstable spells had
eaten away the stone, drowned halls where arcane role + storms had boiled the rivers, and shattered
clans who had trusted in magi only to be abandoned when their power failed them. His people endured
not by magic, but by steel, blood, and cunning. Almost all Duergars could not use sorcery, and Wugfort
believed this was not a curse but a blessing from the role + earth itself, proof that his kind were
never meant to be tainted by such forces.
Where other duergar turned their skills to thievery and deceit, Wugfort turned his strength to battle.
He trained until his body became a weapon, until the clash of steel on steel felt as natural as breath.
He came to believe that war itself was the only pure path left to mortals. Battle stripped away lies,
greed, and corruption. Magic sought to bend the world unnaturally, but war revealed its truth.
The call of the Battleragers
Added Sun Aug 24 13:44:23 2025 at level 43:
When Wugfort heard of the BattleRagers, his purpose sharpened. They were warriors who devoted themselves
to the utter destruction of magic and its wielders. They lived for combat, rejecting sorcery entirely,
trusting only in their skill, discipline, and rage. Among them, Wugfort found his kin. He embraced their
creed without hesitation: magic is not meant for mortals, and those who wield it are enemies of all life
on Thera.
Wugfort quickly rose through their ranks, proving himself a relentless fighter whose hatred of the arcane
was as deep as the Underdark itself. He became known for his unshakable discipline in the face of spellcasters,
refusing priestly blessings even in dire battle, trusting only in his strength and in war. To him, every mage
slain was not just a victory, but a cleansing.
Now, Wugfort marches with the certainty of his calling. He fights not for wealth, not for power, but for the
destruction of magic in every form. To him, war is not chaos. War is purity. War is the last weapon left to
mortals, the hammer that will break the chains of sorcery.
Wugfort fights because war endures, and magic must fall.
Joining the BattleRagers
Added Sat Aug 30 14:55:47 2025 at level 51:
The Village of the BattleRagers was no place of welcome.
When Wugfort arrived, dust clung to his armor and blood stained his mace.
The warriors at the ruined gates gave him no greeting, only hard stares.
Word of his mage-kill had traveled, but here such deeds were only duty.
He was led to the firepit at the Villages heart. There stood Rrthar.
The dark elf was wiry and scarred, his eyes glimmering like obsidian.
Two curved blades hung at his sides, silent as the assassin who bore them.
Rrthar was the Berserker Assassin, and his presence carried heavy silence.
When Wugfort stood before him, Rrthar asked only, Why are you here?
Wugfort met his gaze without flinching. To destroy magic. To leave it ash.
Rrthars eyes narrowed. And why destroy it? Many call it power, even fate.
Rot, Wugfort answered. It is poison, not meant for mortal hands.
It warps the stone and breaks clans. Mortals are made for steel, not sorcery.
Rrthars hands flexed at his sides as if remembering a hundred kills.
He asked, And why war? Why not let magi choke on their own folly?
Because rot spreads, Wugfort replied. War is the only cure. Not words.
Not waiting. Only war cuts out corruption before it devours all.
For a long moment Rrthar studied him, silent as stone in the firelight.
At last the commander gave a sharp nod. You are one of us.
No oath followed. No ritual bound him. Blood would prove the rest.
That night, Wugfort sat among the BattleRagers for the first time.
They spoke little, drank deep, and sharpened steel in silence.
In that silence he felt kinship deeper than any clan of the Underdark.
Here was a people who understood. Here was a commander without glory.
Here was war against the only enemy worth destroying.
Magic would fall. War would endure.
And under Rrthars shadow, Wugfort would become its hammer.
The War taking its toll on the Village
Added Wed Dec 31 12:48:01 2025 at level 51:
The war did not end. It only consumed.Rrthar fell beneath steel
and spellfire alike. The Berserker Assassin died surrounded by
enemies, his blood soaking the ruins he once commanded. One by one,
Wugforts comrades fell. Some were burned by magic.Others were crushed
beneath blades. Many simply vanished into the noise of war.The
Drillmaster held longer than most.He trained, he shouted, he endured.
But when Rrthar was gone and the ranks thinned, the weight of command
crushed him.The elders appointed a new Drillmaster in haste. He was a
dwarf, steady and careful, slow to fury.He spoke of restraint, of
survival, of waiting.Wugfort saw only weakness shaped by fear. Before
any blade could judge him, war did.The dwarf took his own life in the
night.Another warrior broken beneath endless loss.Another proof that
war devours all who falter.
The Village changed after that.Fear settled into the stones like damp rot.
The villagers feared magic more than ever, but now they feared the orcs
as well.Orc warbands pushed into Thera without pause. They burned fields
and shattered settlements.Wugfort met them wherever they marched. His mace
crushed skulls and split armor clean. He cut them down again and again.
Yet each victory rang hollow in his chest.Steel alone could not replace
command.War without direction bled itself dry.The villagers watched
Wugfort in silence. They feared magic. They feared orcs. And they feared the
future most of all.Without a commander, the Village thinned.Warriors left
or fell.Fires burned lower each night.
The BattleRagers were fading into memory.Wugfort stood among the ruins,
alone. He had slain mages and monsters alike. But hatred without command was
ruin.War required a will to shape it.Rrthar was gone. The Drillmaster was
gone. The comrades of his youth were gone.Only war remained.Wugfort felt
the truth settle heavy upon him.If no commander rose, the Village would die.
And if war was to endure, someone would have to bear its burden.
