Description
At five foot eleven, and possessed of a sturdy but not extremely muscular
build, Wujin would have failed to cut an impressive figure if not for the
silent, watchful self-assurance with which he carries himself. He is not
armed with any martial weapons, instead, you spot a small knife and a long,
heavy staff upon him. His armour and clothing do not adhere to a common
decorative theme, but seem to be acquired from a diverse number of places
in Thera.
His face is broad, flat, strong-jawed and impassive, framed with thick,
bushy, black eyebrows which form two decisive slashes towards the centre of
his forehead, angled slightly downwards. Dark-brown eyes brim with
intelligence, but betray little of his emotions. A straight, broad nose
perches above a surprisingly small mouth, and a few days' of stubble has
accumulated over his chin and jaw, climbing smoothly to join the dark,
luxuriant hair of his sideburns. A thick neck joins his broad visage to
broad shoulders and a strong chest. One might easily mistake him for a
warrior, if not for the books strapped to his pack covered with diagrams
representing the anatomies of the creatures and peoples of Thera.

Doctor
Added Thu Jan 24 15:29:39 2013 at level 31:
Wujin Yisheng was born in a small tribe of people living in the mountains
near Udgaard. The tribe kept to themselves for the most part, because the
tribespeople looked too foreign to fit in comfortably in Thera's major
cities and settlements. This tribe, which calls itself the Yisheng tribe,
survived by hunting and foraging in the forbidding mountains which only
they knew well enough to traverse. Disciplined, skilled, and well-organised,
the Yishengs were capable of thriving under adverse conditions - if not for
one flaw.
By some quirk of nature, none of the Yishengs found themselves suited to
becoming priests, and few settlements survive long without the services of
at least a few capable healers. The ingenious Yishengs developed their own
ways of healing, based on rigorous study of herbs, minerals, anatomy of
sentient creatures, and even alchemy. Wujin was identified at a young age
as possessing great intelligence and a talent for body-altering magic, and
thus he was appointed the successor to the Chief Healer, who was himself a
mage of transmutation, skilled in medicines both magical and mundane.
Wujin was trained thoroughly - for the tribe had its own written language,
records and scrolls - in anatomy, herbalism, alchemy, and triage. When he
came of age, he joined the Doctors of Yisheng, a wandering group which
provided expert, non-divine healing to all who could pay for its services.
Doctor
Added Thu Jan 24 15:29:52 2013 at level 31:
The Doctors of Yisheng were the main source of income for the tribe. They
were paid handsomely in coin, and they were indiscriminate in their choice
of customer. With that coin, they bought all the items and supplies the
tribe could not procure on its own, and thus was absolutely critical to the
survival of the Yishengs.
It was during these extensive travels that Wujin grew troubled. He saw that
Thera had two kinds of persons - the innocent who would not harm others who
were innocent, and those who did not care who they harmed. Amongst those
who did not care, there were those who even took pride and pleasure in
inflicting harm on others. Though he had no divine ability to see the
colour of souls, he could tell that some people were evil, some good, and
some neither. It began to pain the young man to see the good harmed - for
he knew that the good would not harm others of the good under nearly all
circumstances. Thus he realised that the world would be a much better,
purer, and _healthier_ place, if everyone was good.
Yet, the Yishengs healed all who could pay. Amongst their customers were
notable heroes of the Fortress, the Spire, the Refuge, leaders of major
cities and settlements. But they also cured, to the best of their
considerable ability, beings as wicked as the leaders of Udgaard, the
soldiers of Empire, and even shadowy scholars from the Chasm.
Exile
Added Thu Jan 24 15:30:34 2013 at level 31:
Wujin was no stranger to fights by then, but no fight he had been in could
have prepared him for the decision he was to make. It was the single
greatest act of courage at that point in his life, to disagree with the
people amongst whom he had grown, the tribe which he was destined one day
to lead, as Chief Healer.
The others learnt of his disagreement, and he was commanded to return to
the tribe in the mountains. The young man, making a wild decision, refused.
He wanted to see Thera, and right the wrongs he saw - even if Thera would
offer him no sanctuary, no people whom he could call his own. The
tribesmen tried to stop him, but with grave regret, Wujin resorted to
violence to clear his path out to Thera.
It was fortunate that he had been so well-schooled in anatomy, for he knew
all the critical spots of the human body to strike, and he chose only those
which would incapacitate, not kill. A few well-aimed smashes of his staff
laid two of his fellow tribesmen stunned on the ground, and the others
backed off.
Grave proclamations were made, and even a few manly tears (for the Doctors
were all male) were shed, and Wujin was formally exiled from the tribe by
none other than the Chief Healer himself.
He left his people that fateful day, and made his way into Galadon. He
found himself lost amongst a bewildering throng of peoples from all over
Thera, including many non-humans. Yet, they did not seem so foreign to
him, because none of the humans looked familiar to him. He had never felt
so lost and homeless until then, but he had chosen his path, and he
resolved not to falter until he could cure Thera of the disease of
wickedness. To that end, he joined the adventurers' Academy.
Summary
Added Thu Jan 24 15:30:48 2013 at level 31:
Born in a reclusive tribe. The tribe was known for its doctors, who travel
Thera to offer their ingenious cures to any who could pay. Wujin was chosen
to become the chief doctor, but during his travels, he was disturbed by the
evil people of Thera, and wanted to help the good. He refused to stay with
his clan, because they did not care about good or evil. After a fight, he
was exiled from his clan, and left for Galadon, eventually joining the
adventurers' Academy.
Character and Manner
Added Thu Jan 24 15:31:03 2013 at level 31:
Wujin was raised as a doctor, and as such, he is familiar with medicine,
anatomy, herbalism, triage, and other such skills useful to a doctor. His
mage school is that of Transmutation, which ties in to his medical
background. As such, he often speaks in terms of diseases and cures. He
may, for example, speak of the wicked as a blight upon Thera, and think of
his own efforts as a doctor curing a patient (Thera) of the disease.
Wujin is slightly obsessive-compulsive about keeping clean and neat, which
makes sense given his earlier profession as a doctor. This ties in to his
alignment with the sphere of Purity. As for moral purity, he aims to
remain as morally pure as he can be - thus, he will always weigh his
actions to see if they lead to a surfeit of goodness over evil. He will
also avoid ever seriously harming or killing the good. However, a few
knocks over the head is good for instructive purposes. Having had a strict
teacher, he does not believe in molly-coddling any students he might have.
He speaks in a formal manner, devoid of any regional accents. Being well-
read and educated, he uses full sentences and a wide vocabulary.
He finds it hard to feel close to anyone, after he has left his people.
This may perhaps change if he finds like-minded friends who become like
family to him. Until then, he may be somewhat aloof with most others.
Wujin believes that discipline and dedication are virtues - as such, he
does not shy away from hard work, such as mastering magical spells, or
amassing coin to donate to a worthy cause, and other tedious tasks.
Although he considers himself pure, he is somewhat wary of those who call
themselves ambivalent. Whilst he does not hunt them, he will not regret
putting one down if one harms the good, or if their death is necessary to
advance the cause of the good.
The Lady and the Fortress
Added Thu Jan 24 15:31:17 2013 at level 31:
Wujin has progressed in his guild, and has fought battles against the
wicked. Seeking out the Fortress, he sought out two recommendations. Some
time later, he was brought into the Fortress by the Marshall Oshui. Since
then, he has experienced many more battles with the wicked, and he has
managed to prevail each time. Each victory gives him some measure of
confidence, and a feeling of contributing to the war against evil.
Wujin has also met the Lady Baerinika for the first time. Speaking to an
immortal God was a novel experience to him, and he was more nervous than
he felt he should have been. The Goddess was strong, powerful, awe-
inspiring, but certainly warm-hearted towards him. She tasked him with a
philosophical mission - Wujin must now set up some basic guidelines as to
what purity means to him, and how he shall embody purity.
Wujin has resolved to set about on this meditation as he battles his way
through the younger titles. He has decided that an answer will be ready by
his 25th title. He has consulted Tolgrumm and Brogok on the issue, and he
aims to gather one more opinion before meditating on his view on purity. He
has decided that he will aim to become an Initiate of the Jaguar, and
hopefully earn the right to wear Baerinika's tattoo in the future.
Maran and the Spearmaiden's Mark
Added Fri Feb 1 17:12:05 2013 at level 32:
After many battles and adventures, Wujin has earned Lady Baerinika's mark.
Now, a black jaguar with glowing white eyes rests proudly upon his arm. He
has also become a Maran of the Fortress.
However, with the glories of victorious battles also come the scars of
battle. Once, with a mis-aimed spell, Wujin slew a young sailor of good
heart in the Seaport. He prayed for the sailor's soul, but the damage
could not be reversed. This will remind Wujin of the dangers of working
violence in the name of the Light.
Another time, a wood-elf bard was fighting an anti-paladin on the Eastern
Road. They were Ailin and Ghruulbrak respectively. Ailin previously was
found slaying goodly soldiers in the Battlefields, but now she was battling
evil. Wujin struck at the anti-paladin, nearly slaying him, but Ailin sang
a song of dissonance which struck him right after Ghruulbrak fled. His next
spell of disrupting the flesh struck Ailin instead of Ghruulbrak, and Ailin
fell in Ghruulbrak's place.
These mistakes in battle weigh upon Wujin's soul, and the best he can do is
keep them within his heart so that he remembers to temper courage with
care.
