Description
An oily, mangy looking duergar stands here, sticking carefully to the shadows
around him. An unattractive leer is plastered on his squashed face as he
sizes up the people and things surrounding him. On one hand, he is clothed
for modesty and anonymity, in nondescript dark toned leathers, furs, and
lightweight armor. But it is clear he has a penchant for finery as he has a
collection of gaudy gold jewelry with gold ear piercings and nose ring to
boot. He is barrel chested, with a bit of a belly and yellowed teeth grin out
from behind cracked lips. One of them gleams with a hint of gold and his nose
appears oft broken. A wiry, greasy black beard, bristles out from below his
chin and while it is maintained it looks far from neat. He moves cautiously
and nearly silently through the shadows, observing his surroundings with an
almost perceptible malice.
Role
Thoughts of the Greedy Thief
Added Wed Feb 25 00:11:37 2026 at level 41:
Wurment wants it all. He grew up poor, scrounging in the alleys for
whatever sustenance he could find. Scruples weren't something he had nor
cared about, but he saw the value in relationships. So where other
thieves became bullies and relied on intimidation, Wurment shmoozed his
way off the streets. Instead of intimidating jewelers, he befriended
them. Why rob a potential buyer and seller of your goods? Status and
relationships, to him, and how one can leverage them is the only thing
almost as valuable as gold and finery.
This has framed his mechanations in Thera today. He hasn't changed all
that much, he still thieves and picks pockets relentlessly. And he does
not suffer from any lack of self confidence. He's always chasing the next
big score, more gold, more status. The balance he tries to strike is
keeping a small circle of close allies to fence his goods and work with.
It is implicit they trust him and he trusts them. And given that
Wurment's trust is hard to come by, he keeps his circle fairly small.
Keeping too large of a circle means less marks, more sharing the spoils.
He does not like to be beholden to anyone, he works to make sure others
are beholden to them. And while he didn't consider himself religious, his
closest confidant, Alcevia, has slowly made him interested in Nycruvae.
He wishes to establish himself as something more than a common rake,
before approaching the Lord, but he is close to such.
Wurment looks down upon those who hoard their goods and lock them away.
The purpose of stealing is to sell the product. The quicker it's out of
your hands, the harder it is to be caught. Gold is much harder to trace
than stolen goods and is, after all, the universal currency of Thera. To
set him apart, he has dabbled in the mystic guild, believing that adding
that dimension will give him an edge over his competitors.
He also is quite ambitious. He has been courted by a few factions and is
most drawn to the Empire. The most conducive for his business. He has
purposefully put off taking the Oath, trying to make himself a commodity.
But he is still building a network within the Empire, most notably with
Verochka, Iada and Kuvurru. And while he longs to control a guild, he
does not want just any guild. He wishes to wrest the guild from Snoraloo
and establish an alliance with the Shadow Lord's guild of Galadon.
Ideally giving him more safety within the Empire and forcing the Shadow
Lord to view him as more of an equal. His plan is to wrest the guild from
Hamsah Mu'tazz, and blackball criminal and unsavory thieves and have
Verochka do the same. This will give the guilds a more legitimate front
to fence stolen property while also forcing their competition to less
desirable guilds.
Important Relationships
Added Wed Feb 25 00:15:39 2026 at level 41:
To enact his scheming Wurment has formed a number of important
relationships.
Firstly is with Alcevia, she fences items he cannot move. Items for
example that only the Light would want. He sells them to her at a slight
discount, she moves them for him. In return he does not steal from her.
Their relationship has proved deeper and more valuable that Wurment
expected and she is likely his closest friend.
Secondly with Callen. Callen has expressed a disdain for Snoraloo, which
coincides with Wurment's goal to take over the Hamsah Mu'tazz guild. To
this end he is courting a deal with Callen as an angel investor to get
the financial backing to push Snoraloo out.
Thirdly with Zindlup. The parameters of the deal Wurment is working with
Zindlup is similar to how he is operating with Callen. If both deals come
through, Wurment will be able to skim a sizable portion off the top, get
the guild cemented under him, and use the skimmed gold to catapult him
into high status within the Empire.
