                    Teth Azeleth.
Conjure to mind what you know of the homeland of the Drow.
The pinnacle of the Underdark. The birthplace of subterfuge.
A place where information is worth more than gold.
All of these things are true. Perhaps even truer than my words
can do justice to. For most of the Adept in the ways of the Spider,
Teth Azeleth offers you all you need for this life and the beyond.
Note, I said most. It was not the case for me. Even though I am
more than Adept at our ways.
Alas, I was a born a man.
A Nobleman, but a man all the same.
In the sea that is Teth Azeleth, this is an anchor tied to your leg.
Do not misconstrue my words, Reader, as you do not know me yet.
I do not criticize the Society of my home, for it is as circumstance
and results made it. I do not curse my Matron, as dim as she may
have been. Nor do I wish to change anything about my home.
I state this only to provide you context. I am a beautiful mind, an
amazing lover and a gifted student of Civilization. I am Adept not
only at the art of the Drow, but also at all the subtle skills that
crown Kings.
I learned much in Teth Azeleth. I served in the Court of Spiders,
advising on matters of trade and coordinating our spies. I
accomplished much but worry not, I will not bore you with the
details of grain and adamantite production.
Again, I only wish to provide you context. Context of who I was
Becoming, and context of what I aspire to Be.
And to leave you with a firm understanding of how and why I left.

My time as a Courtier allowed me many blessings. I refined my
Arts, as aforementioned. I also learned much about the Realm.
From the history texts and chatter of the common-born patrollers
I was eager to take my first diplomatic vision to the surface.
To see the Empire with my own eyes.
I vividly remember the day that the cursed Theran sun blinded
my virgin eyes as we trekked up from the Underdark to the
Surface near Azuremain. We floated our cargo down the river
and eventually made our way to the mythical Eastern Road.
Here is where my dream trip became something else.
And all my preconceived perceptions were torn asunder.
We came across a Centurion roadblock. We were set in queue
to be passed on through when it first happened. A ragtag band
of Adventurers, some with golden auras some without began to
strike at the Blade who had placed the roadblock. Others soon
came to strike at the Centurions themselves. The Blade withdrew,
leaving his servants to die.
I thought this was Beautiful, you see. The commoners were facing
certain death, but as they were not dismissed they met their fate
as true Citizens of their Empire. What did I not expect, was to see
guards from Galadon join in the fray. And then dirty rangers,
smelling ripe from the Outlands.
Imagine this scene, if you would please Reader. Several different
types of Therans were now descending on these loyal two. United
in the dance of battle by their opposition to the Empire. Or perhaps,
their opposition to inconvenience.
But alas, we continued on. My notions were not yet ripped apart. I
actually left this macabre massacre with my mind filled with visions
of Glory. Of service to the Higher Ideals.
As we continue to Hamsah Mutazz, I was truly awed. Here stood
several different houses, Bannermen to the Sultan. All paying tribute.
A beautiful place. Truly a Jewel of the Desert, as they say. As we
continued north from there, things got bleaker. By the time we reached
Imperial Lands, I was confused. This was not grand.
This was not a Jewel.
I asked our escort what the name of this place was. Imperial Lands
he grunted, as though I were stupid. I informed him I knew that. But the
city itself. What was its name? Imperial. Lands. he muttered.
That is when I realized the beginning of a recurring theme.
The Empire lacked the true substance of Order.

The Palace was a bit different but much the same. Grand, in its own
way I suppose. But even the Throne was nothing but wood. Forged from
the last tree of old Thar-Eris? I asked. But the Blade shrugged. He didnt
know. He didnt seem to care. It was the Throne. Where his Emperor sat.
I negotiated what I was there to get done and I had some time left. So I
wandered the nameless city, which was honestly smaller than the Village
south of it. I saw wanted signs for Anathema, namely a fellow Drow, a
Scion of the Anti-Paladin guild it seemed. I asked the a guard to explain
how this wench would be hunted but again, he shrugged. If we see her
well put her down. Who is we? I pondered aloud. Imperial forces he
replied.
You may be wondering why I was disillusioned by all this? The Empire,
up until this moment, had been my escape plan. I intended to negotiate
a deal that would end with me taking the Oath and then convincing my
Matron that my service in the Empire would ultimately benefit her.
However, this all left me longing even more than life back home.
To clear my head I took a walk back to Hamsah Mutazz and I saw
something truly wonderful. A commoner attempted to pick the pocket
of another traveler and failed, causing quite the scene. A member of
the Blood Tribunal marked him as a criminal. As the thief ran, I shadowed
him. On that long road where all united against the Empire, they now
united against this thief. He battled and escaped, heading northwest
by the same river I came down. I shadowed him again, all the way to
Udgaard, where the gate guards there put his head on a pike, right
next to a rotting Paladins corpse. Talk about Beauty!
Do you see what I am going with this, Reader? The Imperial mandate of
death came from the Emperor himself. Who would carry it out? Others
who paid taxes to this wooden throne. But the mandate of death from
this simple Magistrate, barely old enough to leave the Academy?
Every guard from Hamsah to Udgaard carried out that order. To completion.
Surely, this was the true power of Order in the Realm.
I road back to Teth Azeleth with my mind racing. I hatched a plan for what
would come next.

I would like to say that my plan came together quickly but in truth, it took
another decade and several more trips on behalf of the Court. My time
working with the Empire was not entirely bad. It was during these long
negotiations that first learned of the faith of Lord Rillan.
I had long known that I wished to be a Priest. My Matron forbid men from
learning Magic, and the patrollers and assassins were mostly common-
born. I was able to train as a Shaman, and more importantly to worship
Lord Rillan openly. Usually, my Matron required us to worship a Goddesss
but given my works with the Empire, this was allowed.
I found myself in this worship. Of which I will write more of later. However,
I need to once again provide context. Without this faith, and the further
understandings He has granted me, nothing else in this story would matter.
I will spare you the nuances of how I obtained permission to leave Teth
Azeleth. It required timing, and when I was able to serve my Matron in
the Court of the Empress of Seantryn Modan I saw my opportunity. I was
allowed to leave for the mainlands, to join the Blood Tribunal in order to
ensure my Noble House was represented in matters of Law. This took
some convincing, but as youll soon come to understand I am also Adept
at explaining how the Spire is the true shaper of the Realm.
To do so I had to leave it all behind. Including the wealth of my House.
I entered the Theran Academy as a Shaman and I settled in Udgaard.
Why Udgaard? You may ponder. As it is not one of the Four Cities of
the Spire.
The answer is because it was the place I first noticed true power. When
that pikeman severed that criminals head. In many ways I was baptized
in his blood.
I was blind, but then I could see. And that sight brought me to Lord Rillan
and to a path of true power and real wealth in the Spire.

So what does this all mean? Why should you continue to read my words
and observe my saga?
Allow me to take a step back and objectively speak about myself. I will
organize what you should know about me and outline my immediate and
long-term aspirations.
I was born under the stars of Strength. This sphere guides me in all that
I think and do. I am conscious of it. Never more so than when I noticed
the relative weakness of the Empire when measured against my
expectations.
I am an Orderly soul, to say the least. As a nobleman I take this very
seriously. I have been blessed by both blood at birth, intellect through
study and cunning through trial and error. I consider myself a statesman,
though I am no longer loyal to Teth Azeleth aside from in ceremony. I
am a Citizen of the Realm. What is the Realm? It is the entirety of
Theran Civilization. Of which the Empire is but a piece.
I will serve in the Blood Tribunal as it is the true seat of Kings. Though
wisely this is masked by other names such as Provost and Magistrate.
This is real governance. Real influence. As proven by numerous
observations. Feel free to ask me about these, they are too many to
pen.
I worship Lord Rillan and desire only His blessing and guidance. I
will seek to be His High Priest, and to make my Will align with His.
My ultimate goal is to become Provost and reshape Thera properly.
Dare I say my ultimate vision is to see the Empire in our service. To
accomplish this I will recruit their soldiers. I will build an army much
larger than theirs and if necessary, I will show them the error of their
ways and the damage they do to the true cause of Civilization.
I detest the Villagers, Scion and Outlanders. As they seek to destroy
that which is Beautiful in the Realm. The Fortress? Hardly worth the
ink on this page.
My plans are many and complicated. But if you observe me you will
see me working toward one of the above at all times. I am in no hurry,
as the life of a Drow is long. But when it is over, all will know the name
of Xaenov dr'Rhallvs.
