Description

A shadowy, ominous form of a dark-skinned traveler is here before you. The cloaked figure looks deceptively small at around four feet in height but in certain light her posture changes to a lithe form of a taller, graceful figure. Her face is more visible to you now and you see sleek white hair fall to the right side of her jaw line in front of her eye while the opposite side of her head is shaved short revealing various white scars from her temple to her pointed ear. The visible left eye is a breathtaking azure blue and the almond shape, along with the ear, give tell-tale signs that this is a dark-elf woman of indeterminate age. Her small, delicate hands grip firmly onto the sheathes of short bladed daggers and strapped to her back you spy a sharp, iron hatchet coated with coagulated blood. With movements so silent, if you were not paying attention, she would appear to be nothing more than a shadow blending into the environment. You notice a strange marking on her hands. On the left there seems to be infernal burns marking out the word 'Law' and on the right hand the same type

Role

Traditions

Added Mon Oct 27 00:09:57 2014 at level 1:
There is tradition passed down to each generation for just about every
society in Thera. The elves pass down their ageless looks and magical
mithril smithing. Dwarves pass down their forgecraft and bearded women,
where the latter results in passing down alcoholism to the males. Some find
it quite curious then to see the dark-elves pass down such traits as vision
in extremely low light but also a weakness to an alloy once prided eons
before until their wickedness sent the drow underground. Nearly all of the
races in Thera can handle mithril quite easily, even other subterranean races
like the gnome and svirfnebli. So what is it about the dark-elves that
harnesses this acquired weakness? Dark magic. By forging nearly all mithril
blades with positive energy, the elves have quite cleverly discovered a way
to oppose the negative energies imbued into the dark-elves. The dark-elves
always pride themselves on their ability to harness many forms of magic, such
as the elements, conjurations, rituals of the Pit Fiends, necromancy, and of
course; transfiguration.

The First House of the greatest Dark-Elf society, Teth Azeleth, holds many
seats for students well versed in the advanced forms of dark arts, with the
most accomplished taking a position next to the all mighty Matron Mother of
the First House. It is here in the First house, during a ceremony to find a
new handmaiden to serve the Matron Mother, where we meet young Xeneth.

The Sangraal Pedestal

Added Mon Oct 27 00:12:49 2014 at level 1:
In dark-elvish society, by the age of twenty-one on the gods calendar, drow
female begin a sorting ritual by which their life is determined. A series of
tests and procedure are placed upon the woman to find her greatest strengths
and nurture their natural talent. The tests are overseen by the most
powerful subjects to the Matron Mother, under the guise of wealth and a place
close to the Matron, but in fact it is elaborate legerdemain as a way to
extinguish any power great enough to challenge the Matron's. The tests
consists of blood ritual, pomp, and only one real display of power. A
spherical black shadowstone is set into a sangraal pedestal and at the end of
the rituals each candidate is ordered to place their hands upon the device.
It is a device thousands and thousands of years old, created to greatly
enhance magical prowess so as to clearly see true strengths above all others.

The rituals were coming to a close and it was time for Xeneth to place her
hands upon the stone. There were a few dozen other women before Xeneth but
her progress to the pedestal was not slow. She had seen flares of fire or
lightning come across the orb as others placed their hands up to the pedestal
with their fates set to be an elementalist. One girl touched her hands to
the orb and nothing but a puff of putrid smelling green smoke emerged, and
she later heard it meant a Pit Fiend had belched so the girl was to become an
anti-paladin. Another held her hand only an inch above the stone and her
fingers began to swell at an alarming rate. The Arch-Mage of the
transfigurists ushered her to their ranks chanting counter-spells to reduce
the self-inflicted inflammation. Touch after touch, fates were decided and
new power was distributed throughout the ranks of magical order. However,
when it became Xeneth's turn, the unexpected happened.

The illusion of Time

Added Mon Oct 27 00:16:55 2014 at level 1:
As she stepped up to the pedestal and began lowering her hands upon the stone
she felt a trembling. The trembling was not in her hands but it was as if the
pedestal, walls, people, and even the stone began to vibrate. Inch by inch as
the gap closed between her and the stone the vibrations became greater and
greater. There was a great pain in every joint and her bones seemed to ache.
Perspiration began to gather upon Xeneth's brow and he knees were starting to
shake with weakness. Finally, when she had touched the stone she felt and
heard a loud snap. She raised her head and let out a sigh of relief to her
peers and looked around to the different Arch-Magi. It was eerily strange to
see them all perfectly still. Almost too still. As she focused upon the
handmaiden directly in front of her she looked into her eyes and the
handmaiden did not blink for quite some time.

"Well?" said Xeneth "What does it mean?"

As the words left Xeneth's mouth it felt as if there were great pressure upon
her ears and the words sounded muffled. A few moments passed and all lay
silent. It was complete and utter silence like nothing she had ever
experienced. Xeneth looked down to the stone and she was surprised to see
the stone looked almost soft and malleable like a floating liquid sphere. The
places where her hands were felt tension and it was no longer a swirling
black orb but there were all colors and it flickered like a brilliant rainbow
yet it held white and black on opposite sides of the sphere. She would turn
her hands in unison to the left but the cardinal position of the white would
always point in the same direction opposite the black. The stone felt
weightless and she picked it up effortlessly from the sangraal pedestal. She
walked around the room with the floating orb and it appeared as if everyone
was frozen in place, almost as if the second she touched the orb time had
stopped. In fact, that was exactly what happened. Xeneth did not know what to
make of this strange and surreal experience and she began to panic.

Up! To the Academy!

Added Mon Oct 27 00:25:23 2014 at level 1:
Xeneth looked down upon the orb and quickly ran back to the pedestal. She
placed it back within the sangraal and then attempted to pull her hands away.
No luck. Her hands were seemingly magnetized to the orb and one with it. She
kicked her leg up and even went so far as to stand atop the orb and try to
kick off but now her feet were stuck too and trapping her in a crouching
fetal position.

"What mess have I gotten myself into!" exlaimed Xeneth. Her nostrils flared
and she gave out a shrill yell. The more she pulled away from the orb the
more stuck she found herself. A sudden idea came to her mind and she looked
down at the orb to find her feet atop the white colored part of the orb and
she knew the black side must be below in the sangraal. Her idea was to give a
short hop and pull the orb out of the sangraal and try to crush the orb on
the ground below in an attempt to make the opposing sides touch. It was not a
great idea but desperation breeds stupidity in dire straits.

One.

Two.

Three!

Xeneth pulled up and she found herself and the orb quickly hurtling to the
ground. With a crackling sound the orb smashed flat like a pumpkin dropped
from a tall oak. A surge was felt throughout the room and many eyes began
blinking and looking around curiously to find a female form crouched upon a
pile of dust. Quick and libelous accusations began circling Xeneth and panic
began to form sweat all over her body. They blamed her for the orbs
destruction, even if they had not seen the act happen, but it was now the
last thing she was worried about. There was a great pain felt in the back of
her head in that moment of the orb breaking and she could feel her grasp on
magic fade through her fingertips. As time passed tempers cooled and the
current handmaiden came to the conclusion Xeneth's magical prowress was so
strong it broke the shadowstone, and it was widely accepted by the other
drow. However, with no ability to display this prowess, Xeneth was sent to
train in the barracks for military work among the ranks of soldiers. She
would gain physical discipline but with the loss of her power she felt
unfulfilled in the ranks of Teth Azeleth. In a years' time, she decided to
find greater purpose on the surface, an act frowned upon by the First House,
but there were many legends who walked the halls of the Academy and Xeneth
was confident in her ability. There was no life for her in the Underdark and
the difficult choice to forge a new path and find adventure was what she decided.

The Odd Job

Added Wed Nov 5 17:35:07 2014 at level 32:
Many months have passed and Xeneth has learned many things on the topside.
She has taken a great number of odd jobs, and one job certainly took the
prize for the oddest. Xeneth was no stranger to finding clients who wanted
death of another. The task began just like any other job, but the client
wanted to use a specific method of destruction; a blowgun armed with a poison
laced needle. She preferred the quick jab of her dagger at the base of the
skull, but sometimes she had to sneak a few more jabs in on bigger targets.
This job required leaving no marks and Xeneth was hesitant. The amount of
blood she drew from foes was a good way to know she had dealt the killing
blows, but with a dart she had to trust in the poison.

The mark was a dwarf who ran the lumberyard of Galadon. He was a well known
and prosperous figure in the city and Xeneth was going to have to be very
quick and quiet if she was going to get out without being apprehended. She
snuck into the yard under the cover of darkness and was so incredibly quiet
that her dart was shot from a point blank range and Tarus was completely
unaware. This was an amazing gift Xeneth had to flow with the shadows and
tread silently. She watched Tarus fall into a heap upon his office floor and
took one of his prized trinkets as proof for her client, and everything
seemed to have gone according to plan.

Seeing a Ghost

Added Wed Nov 5 17:37:08 2014 at level 32:
A week had passed since her blowgun mission and a few gold marks in her
pocket left her very wealthy. She frequented the Inn of the Eternal Star for
fine dining and libations where was growing quite comfortable on the topside
spending her new fortune. Olin had just placed down a glass of wine when she
saw him. She didn't notice the glass crash to the floor, but she stared in
disbelief upon seeing what she thought was a ghost. A chill ran up her spine
and she could feel her heart beat through her chest

"You'll be payin' fer dat!" muttered Olin to Xeneth.

She slid a gold coin across the bar and told him to keep the change. His
attitude changed but coin would not solve her new problem just yet. Tarus
was handing out ribbons with "Vote for Tarus!" and appeared oblivious to all
the commotion with Xeneth and Olin. Tarus came around to Xeneth with an
outstretched hand but quickly retracted it to the back of his neck.

"Yeh dark-skinned wench, fargin' Pawn eh Gralan. Yeh rue the day, miss!"
grumbled Tarus as he and his campaign supporters left the Inn for Galadon in
a hurry.

Xeneth thought to herself for a moment, 'How could he have known? There were
no witnesses! I WATCHED HIM DIE!' She felt betrayed but she didn't know how.
What kind of cheap poison did Gralan use? It was time for a few answers.
She went to her usual meeting spot with Gralan but he was not there so she
left a Note with one of his henchmen. Xeneth felt exposed by the failed
assassination so she went looking for backup. She decided to use her great
fortune to invest in an army. The army of the Imperials. Once in their ranks
she felt more protected by the Imperial Council. She quickly rose through
their ranks and went to seek out Gralan again, only this time it was Gralan
who would find Xeneth.

Gralan for Mayor

Added Wed Nov 5 17:37:50 2014 at level 32:
Gralan and Xeneth decided the smartest plan of action was to compete with
Tarus for the mayoral seat of Galadon. It would be Xeneth's job to gain the
Imperial backing for Gralan as well as whatever tools would be necessary to
guarantee Gralan's victory over Tarus. Another assassination attempt would
be out of the question now that he would have the guards of Galadon
protecting his office during the campaign. With Xeneth sanctioned as
Gralan's Advisor, she felt confident victory would be easily gained. Now,
how to approach the Emperor and gain his vote...

The Seat of War Master

Added Tue Nov 25 20:04:48 2014 at level 48:
In her time as an Elite blade of the Empire she established plans for herself
and those around her. Xeneth had not anticipated eating confusing grapes
that grew her a male appendage,(which she hates as she still has the body of
a female drow), but she works beyond such trivial things. It was not her
plan, but it did not stop her from becoming War Master under the greatest
Emperor of the Age. Despite minor setbacks, she maintains a meeting
scheduled in her books with Gralan and the Emperor, so as to spread Imperial
power and lay destruction to chaos and maintain order more firmly through
Thera's most populated city of Galadon. When she considers the magical
prowess she lost decades ago, the memory is not felt with regret because
there is much Xeneth accomplished without it. Could it have enhanced her
current power? Perhaps, but the road she is on now would never have
intersected if she had become an apprentice handmaiden to the First House.
Her destructive touch to the Sangraal Pedestal now seemed to be fate pushing
her to this seat of War Master;a life unknown but now embraced. Her
offering of the blood oath to Thera will surely grow the power of the Empire
and in a way she sees herself as the Handmaiden to the Emperor. In her mind
the Emperor is far more powerful than the Matron Mother and she honors this
privilege with her heart, soul, and mortal life. There is much more
adventure ahead for Xeneth and she feels excited and more alive than ever.

The Journey

Added Thu Feb 12 01:15:02 2015 at level 51:
Long has she lived on the top side, and as she matures in age and life
experiences her path has never been certain. What began with the Sangraal
pedestal now seems like a half-remembered dream. Xeneth found direction in
an oath to the Empire. She quickly proved herself and was granted leadership
to the most advanced army in the lands as War Master under the Emperor
Jarlduz. Emperor Daphrdan was named as replacement to Jarlduz and her foes
were the most fearsome forces of her age. Xeneth was a master of battle, but
in her failure to keep composure in the chaos of battle, mistakes were made.
Seats changed hands, but she was dedicated to learn from her mistakes. She
watched as other warriors took control of the army she trained and squandered
the power. Empress Reegun replaced Daphrdan and for the first time in
thousands of years, the Empire began to show cracks in the armor.

Chaos began to seep in through the cracks and order no longer dictated the
battles. Xeneth's greatest foes were empowered by the folly of Reegun but
Xeneth persevered. She remained dedicated to the Empire and found herself as
War Master once again. An opportunity presented itself to Xeneth and this
time she knew how to act. The politics of the Empire are just as chaotic as a
drunken brawl but time and time again, Xeneth kept her thoughts and actions
orderly and precise. The maneuver was successful as Reegun was removed from
the throne and the crown was placed upon the head of Xeneth.

Emperor of Thera, first decree

Added Thu Feb 12 01:16:23 2015 at level 51:
Darkness and Order battles fiercely with the forces of chaos and now Xeneth
understands the perils of her landscape. As Emperor, order will be restored
to the lands and chaos will find itself vanquished. She will empower her
people and create new laws. The landscape is the same but Xeneth sees things
much differently. For the first time ever, she unclenched her fists and
daggers and began to think constructively for the future of all and not just
the future of warfare. Just as a hamstring was the first target to cripple
her foes, Xeneth thought of ways to write laws that would have the same
effect. The first order of business was to undo the mess Reegun created and
appoint a new War Master. Xeneth decided upon one that posed the least
threat to her own reign and was also not the most popular and seemingly
unknown. Kregan and Altariel were formidable and quite popular. Xeneth
admired them greatly, but she also knew the desire to be War Master was a
form of training in itself. She would observe Kregan and Altariel and
determine if their loyalty still held true. The seat was now Szeven's to
lose.

The Conquest of Dragons

Added Tue Apr 14 23:45:07 2015 at level 51:
Upon taking the throne, it became very clear to Xeneth Vega that Thera would
need much inspiration to pull itself out of the chaos. It was her goal to
infect the world with an idea that would spread to all corners, in turn
strengthening darkness and order beyond imagination. Mortals of Thera have
a brief moment to make a mark on the landscape but if the mark is big enough
and deep enough, it will show forever. To the Emperor's advantage, much of
Thera was described in the Lyceum of the Eternal Star so at a young age she
made certain to memorize the books and tales of adventure. Marching an army
to these locations in her mind was like living in a half-remembered dream.
Xeneth's plan to conquer the most dangerous and deadly corners of the world
was one of certain destruction, but with preparation and determination any
task was easily accomplished. This mission would begin with a vitalization of
body in the pits of the devils, where Xeneth would be able to undo the spores
and sunburns from the wildlings. Phase two of the march would begin with
beheading the greatest beasts of the lands; dragons. This goal was
accomplished with much preparation and perseverance and the idea began to
take hold across Thera; Xeneth Vega is the destroyer of chaos. A dark vision
for those to rally behind where order prevails. For those who would deny this
idea, she would only need to bare the bite of the serpent axe. This scar was
made when beheading the serpent god of chaos, Yzekon, where she took his axe
from his cold dead hands. In the coming days, she would use this wicked
blade of chaos as sacrifice, to impress the Lord Daevryn who she prayed to
as a young girl; trusting he would deliver the destruction she desired.
Gaining his attention was as difficult as slaying the Tiamat.
