Description

This felar stands five foot three inches, and his long white fur is almost completely obscured by a dark hooded cape and close-fitting sleeves. Around his neck is simple leather cord securing a figurine carved from a peach pit, and his buttons and toggles all show elaborate handwork and that same meticulous detail. His eyes seem overlarge for his face, as if he were in a state of constant surprise, and his mouth is almost hidden in the lush snowy hair. Stuck into his belt are tools for picking locks, hampering pursuers, and a coil of fine wire with handles shaped to look like the ends of a rainbow.

Early life

Xligro Gurdo earliest memory is waiting before the fire back in Aturi.  He
was hungry, as were his three brothers, and a cold, raging wind caused the
flames to dance in the fireplace. His father held a wooden spoon in his large
paws and slowly stirred a cauldron of watery soup. In the back room his mother
grunted and his sister counted, and when the baby's cries were heard his father's
face looked grotesque as the firelight twisted it in light and shadow.  When the
baby ceased crying, the farmer looked worn, and whatever emotion he had so
filled him as to nearly spill out his eyes.  At the funeral, Xligro saw the
bruises on his baby sister's neck.

In his sixth year the rains did not come, and Xligro was apprenticed to a
barrel-maker in the city.  He was a kind-seeming old man, and during the
afternoons the boy built and sold barrels, the evening were spent warming
the old man's bed, and after a few months, small animals started to disappear
in the mornings.  When the old man himself disappeared, Xligro told his clients
that his master had ridden a wagon south to Hardan Wood.

The next ten years Xligro made his way by selling wood carvings and rifling
through the pockets of bodies later found by the Seantryn watch. He strives
to sow dischord and fear to match what was in his heart.

Pledging to the Chasm

After contacting the Chancellor in person, Xligro approached the Nightwalker
and quietly offered his services.  In hushed tones he confessed his lust for
power, his enjoyment of the fear he had created in others, and his desire to
see natural and imposed order disrupted forever.  If it takes a few otherworldly
monsters to cause this to happen, so be it.

Xligro sees the Chasm as a means to an end; there is no altruism that motivates
him, only self-interest.  For as long as he can, he will obscure his affiliations
and cultivate relationships with his enemies.  Let the world think he desires
to be an Outlander or a Battle Scout.  And let them all die as he silently
acquires power.

Fattening the lambs

At first he was puzzled why he felt inclined to help them.  Then he had an 
Xligro has encountered a few people whose ineptitude seemed so great that he thinks
of them as lambs lost in the woods.  Although he is more of a veal kind of guy, a
greasy mutton chop can keep you warm on a cold winter day, so Xligro has actually
helped these lost souls by teaching them essentials for surviving in the harsh
world that is Thera.  That does not mean that he will necessarily stop haunting 
them.

Affiliations

Xligro met with the Chancellor, and after receiving the expected threats
and the unexpected praise, the Chancellor inducted him into the Chasm.  It
is a relationship that strikes Xligro as being entirely one of self-interest, and
that suits him quite fine.  It is his intent to act to the larger world as though
he remains unaffiliated, for it would be unwise to step out of the shadows while
the rest of the cabal is in such tatters.

Love? What is that?

Added Thu Feb 24 10:58:11 2011 at level 35:

Xligro finds himself in a quandry: a fela assassin, Mexzi, has
been giving him attention, and the poor felar has no idea how
to handle it, as he likes the way she smells and he finds her
rubbing against him simultaneously soothing and unnerving.

He approached someone approximating a friend for advice, the
Herald Ebele, who promptly began coaching him on what to say and
do to court her.  A bar bouncer and a shady patron of the bar
offered countering advice that included large rocks, ropes,
and biting.  Consensus was reached that Xligro should not
encorporate blood, ropes, or sharp implements when he meets
with Mexzi, although he was supplied with a dose of catnip
to gift to the attractive fela.  Xligro thanked everyone and
then ran out of the inn to go stalk a few people to calm his
nerves.

On the following day, Xligro encountered Mexzi in the Galadon
guild, and Xligro attempted his clumsy courtship.  He commented
on her beautiful fur, omitting any mention of the blood she
must work so hard to remove, and he bit her ear, and then he
gave her the catnip he had been given.  She smiled mischievously,
ate the catnip, and then Xligro grew too uncomfortable and 
promptly went into hiding.
