Description

This tall but stooped figure looks incredibly frail. He leans heavily on a staff, and periodically cough frantically, often enough to draw a bit of blood he casually wipes from his mouth with the back of his wizened hand. He is completely bald, the top of his head being covered with flesh that has clearly been burned, almost the the point of melting. Burn marks are also evident on his arms, legs and face. He is missing one ear, and there are hideous scars crisscrossing his burned flesh. One eye is a milky white, but the other gazes fiercely at whatever catches his attention. He cuts a truly disgusting figure in almost every way, yet has a warm, seemingly perpetual smile on his face.

The day they came, the sun was shining brightly in the morning.  A soft
breeze set the trees slowly swaying back and forth.  It was one of the most
beautiful days I can recall.  The future seemed what it had always been.
Days on end with nothing but pleasure to fill them.

What had we to fear?  Our village lay in the mountain beyond Evermoon,
for trouble to find us, it would have to look quite hard.  Perhaps our
peace and pleasure brought complacency.  We forgot the dogged
determination to inflict pain and suffering that is inherent in the
orcs.

How they bypassed the guards of Evermoon so swiftly and quietly
to get to my village I'll never know.  But come they did.  In force, and
with blood in their eyes.  Most of my village died quickly.  All were
subdued.  Then the living and the dead were heaped together.  I was
thrown among them.  Barely conscious, I could see nothing, with bodies,
some moving slightly others never to move again, lying atop me.
But I could smell.  First there was the smell of oil.  Soon after
was the smell of burning flesh.  It wasn't long before I felt my own
flesh on fire.  And then I knew nothing but darkness for a time.

When I awoke, I had no concept of time.  Was it day, weeks later?
It mattered not.  I was alive.  I wept for my people, I fell down weeping
when I saw the state of myself.  But I did not weep for long.  For in my
heart I know life if good.  Life is wonderful.  And I am alive.  I will
smile for myself, but more than that for those who no longer are with
me to smile by my side.  And those who try to destroy the pleasure of life?

They will be destroyed.

Finding my way

Every day is a chance to smile, and every day I do.  My Lord seems
to enjoy smiling with me, and that gives me strength, as does every
moment under the moon, stars, or sun.  It's all a gift.  I've thought
about joining the cause of the Outlanders, and still do.  Mostly,
their enemies are my enemies, and their goals are similar to
mine, although they're entirely too serious.  And, all their talk
of freedom doesn't seem to be the case with Rolas, at least.
I'm sure he's an admirable fellow, but when he questioned me, it
seemed he wanted my opinion to be the same as his.  I suppose
he thought I was a buffoon.  He seemed to think I didn't understand
him, when, in fact, I disagreed on some points with him.  I suppose
there's room for disagreement, but I don't think he cared for it.
Oh well, he's still a fine fellow.  Just needs to smile more.

Whatever makes you happy!  It's something I said in conversation
with Solec, one of those balance fellows.  I said it slightly mockingly,
insinuating that balance was rather dull.  Life needs spice!  And it does.
But the acolyte of my Lord seemed to think those words wise, and,
upon reflection, so do I.  As long as one doesn't actively seek to destroy others
good times, I really can't muster up the energy to hate them.  I can disagree,
but so what?  If something makes them happy, and it isn't hurting anyone else,
more power to em.  My Lord and his subject are wise on the subject of happiness,
and beyond.  I have learned much, but still seek to learn more!
