Role
How We Got Here
Added Sat Sep 6 19:23:08 2025 at level 1:
Ymstrecca is bitter. Angry. Envious. And desperate for the accolades she
knows she deserves. Bad enough Ghyss rejected her, but to be tossed out
by Zen'kra?? That lech? That imbecile who couldn't whack two akrala axes
without chopping off his own feet?? Intolerable. Insulting beyond words.
They, and all of Thera, will come to recognize they are nothing compared
to her and regret their stupidity as she takes everything from them - at
least they'll regret it for the moments they remain alive, before the world
is taken from them and reshaped. Ymstrecca will survive, indeed she intends
to thrive, but these fools will not, she'll make sure of it. They think Weh
is so strong, so inviting. They have no idea. They don't understand how
it serves only to become Sra; always just a matter of time, and evolving.
Of course, she is not surprised or dissuaded in the slightest. Leaving
the village against her parents' wishes, heading north to the old lands
of Ysigrath, excited to see the pyrohydra, the mounds, and of course the
famed black dragons, she thought her life planned out well. Embracing
Weh she paid a visit to the lonely paladin, spent some time learning the
spears and axes and shields, and even started learning of the gods ruling
Thera. She saw no limit to her world and future. She studied hard. She
trained hard. She worked hard at everything, excelling beyond all the others
be they grown there, or back home. She EARNED! her rewards. She was OWED!
But no, when she came to Ghyss she was rebuffed. Oh, "see something
disturbing in you" did she??? She'll feel something disturbing one day,
that's for sure. Ghyss practically SENT her north, to Zen'kra and his men,
and now she's surprised how things turned out?? I'm surrounded by morons,
thinks Ymstrecca.
First home is worthless. Then southern Ysigrath. Then northern. All of them
will come to fear her, but better, to know deep inside she was always right,
she was always their better. Again, for as long as they might live in a doomed
world. And they will just be the first. She has watched as Theran travelers
have come to the Saurian swamps and marshlands. She sees their things, their
gold, their powers. She will have them all. They, too, will acknowledge
her or suffer. One day. She knows the land, she knows nature will require
patience. And she'll turn it against it, and all others. Some will be left,
some will even thrive. But most will not, and she will be at the top of that
dark food chain. As she delves deeper and deeper into Sra, she will come full
circle and understand Weh - but to subvert it, to use it for her own.
For now, she bides her time. She needs to learn. To turn her peerless focus
toward training, practicing, gathering power, and equally important, gather
riches of all kinds, jewels and gems, clothing of the finest and most potent
craftsmanship, and of course, gold. Until she is strong enough, she will need
Bit left over!

to use her powers of persuasion, threat, cajoling, and bribing, whatever may
be necessary to obtain all she wants. Then she can extract anything she wants
back from those beneath her. That day will come. She yearns for it, and looks
forward to standing over the corpses who share the gift of Sra, propelling her
to mastery.
What They Didn't Teach In Ysigrath
Added Sat Sep 6 19:24:32 2025 at level 1:
Shortly after leaving the village and coming to the nearest city, Galadon,
Ymstrecca, like most, was awestruck. Nothing at all like anything she knew.
She'd overheard adventurers speaking when they didn't know she was nearby
and they mentioned places like Galadon and Hamsah Mu'tazz, Voralian and
Udgaard, but she was not prepared for the vastness, and the complete lack of
anything growing. It took time to adjust. Time she used well, wandering
and paying attention.
What struck her hardest was how much Jhel'nra either didn't know, or didn't
share. So many gods!!! So much power!!! The warrior guild taught swinging
swords, and that's important. The mage guilds taught spellcasting, and that
can be important, too. But nothing is more powerful than the divine. And
among the divine, there were so many to learn about! She was directed to
some hovel called an Inn, which at least had some grass in the back. Behind
it was a big library, and she spent days reading, all about just how much
these gods actually intervened and affected the world. She had no idea.
Jhel'nra never even mentioned them.
Some even seemed interesting, and not totally silly. But she almost dropped
the book when one sent a pealing bell sound through her mind. It was as though
the book was writing about how she felt, and her plan for life. It spoke to
her as none others had. And a deity who is a goblin no less!! Inspiring. She
knew immediately this was where, and with whom, she belonged. She can already
see herself showing the power of Sra as she screams his name: Skreenak.
Early Days
Added Fri Sep 12 22:01:49 2025 at level 17:
Sochan, a dark-elf, should be honored - wait, that misspells mocked -
by his village co-morons. Even the black dragon nestlings are
smarter than that one. He can be thanked for pushing me squarely into the
hands of magic. Before my fingers ever touched a potion, ever even seen magic
I asked for a bit of aid. I would have welcomed a harsh refusal, he's no K'sra, but
what did I get? You're a priest, and I'm sure you'll use magic later, so I won't
do anything for you now. How better to push someone into the hands of magic?? Perhaps
he might have gone the other way, used the opportunity to help and say see? You DON'T need
magic! If ever there were a chance I'd have sympathized with those barbarians, he buried
it under the pyrohydra's shitpile.
But after that, and far more important, a great beginning, well, began.
Weh imbued me and I shared it with a kitty cat warrior, Mawra. The divine powers
flowed through me and into that one... unpleasantly. It felt better even than I dreamed
it would, and I know I am on the right path. I took what I wanted and then
discovered the pathetic sniveling de-claed cat took his own life. How
delicious. I spared him the far worse that is coming for him and most of this
world. He really should have thanked me before taking his life.
Finally, my only disappointment so far is silence from the Great and terrible God-King,
Skreenak. But just as the marshes always continue to take the lands around
them, even if slowly, inch by inch, year by year, I will never give up.
Soon I pray we will meet and I will convince the Great One to give me all
I want! And then... then the world changes forever.
Greed
Added Sat Sep 13 23:49:14 2025 at level 18:
People often misunderstand greed. Greed is not entirely nondiscriminatory.
I do not want everything of every kind. What would I want with, say, an ugly child's
full diaper, other perhaps than to squish into the face of some elf? No.
Greed is specific. It can be wide, but it is specific - to you. To me. To each
person. But admittedly, even for one person, the specific desire can be vast. Broader
than lesser minds and hearts can contemplate. Vast wealth. Vast power. These
are what I speak of. Most have petty dreams, a nice dinner. A nice house. A nice
little family. Pathetic. The inhabitants of this world, for the most part, are
not worth the life force they spend. Wasted. And most will not survive what comes.
But until then, and then after, well, someone must rule, no? Who better than I? Zen'kra??
I laugh. No, I am best suited. And I will make it happen.
But as with all things, the path starts somewhere, and must be taken step by step.
I have already begun twirling others around my claws. Get me this! Get me that! Learning,
as God-King Skreenak teaches, to vary the method. Sweet talk sometimes. Threat others. Violence
of course always a pleasure. The wise and strong one knows to have each arrow in her
quiver. As I do. Things are different out here in these mostly dry lands, but I learn
more and more each day, and get better and better. In time, all will be mine. There is
no doubting. For now, I am patient. Bit by bit I gather what is mine. And hope soon to
share my vision with the God-King.
Advancement on All Fronts
Added Thu Sep 25 00:14:48 2025 at level 31:
How to measure success when all you want is just, well, everything?
In Ymstrecca's case, it is step by step. She can credibly be charged with eyes
bigger than her belly, but aside from that, she sees nothing but golden skies.
Used to working ten times harder than the rest, hard work and dedication is
nothing new to her. But at the same time, having her future in someone else's hands also
is nothing new to her, and she was furious how the first time worked out. This
time she could have been reticent, but instead went the other way. In her words,
"the swamp will freeze over before I let anyone, mortal or god, stand in my
way ever again! I deserve EVERYTHING!!!"
To that end, she immediately set about garnering wealth and power. No means is outside
her willingness to achieve. Lying? Check. Cheating? Check. Dishonorable combat?
Every day and twice on Days of the Great Gods. Certainly she enjoys showing the meaning
of Weh all by herself, but she would never deny others the same joy. And, of course,
most of the living corpses have limited time left, as Thera itself has limited
time left. They all should experience while they can. In any event, all possible efforts
were put to two specific goals: getting the eye and approval of the God-King Skreenak, and the
Sovereign of Scions, Morius, so she might join. Both took time, but both gave her
the chance. And, of course, she seized with the white hot intensity of Kiadana's deepest core.
With the God-King, she returned to his holy place many times, sometimes leaving
tributes, each time professing her (in a rare moment of being genuine) inspiration from
him and desire to learn and walk in his path. In time he showed himself and gave her both
a set of tasks, and an infusion of power. The path of Pain. Fitting. Not long passed before
she completed the tasks and upon their second meeting, the God-King gave a similar but
much, much more difficult set of tasks. This will take loonger, a lot longer, she thought,
and perhaps the God-King might provide incentive along the way, but regardless, she will
not - cannot - back down. She will accomplish or die. And she has no intend of dying
and being forgotten.
Similarly, some time passed before she was able to meet with Lord Morius. But again,
a task was given, and again, a task was fulfilled. This time in far faster form than
than even the god thought. And just like that she was part of the Chasm. Sooner than others
who had been waiting far longer. Which makes sense, to her, as she is far superior to
all of them. But careful not to show it quite too much... She cackles with glee when
she thinks of it. Almost as much as she laughs every time she parrots that stupid
phrase to enter Mortorn - as though he is in fact a king. Laughable. In any event, she now works
to impress two gods, as she intends to be the next Advisor or, if possible, Chancellor.
And again, she will not back down. Ever.
Weh
Added Sun Oct 5 12:55:00 2025 at level 31:
People misunderstand Weh. And not just the idiot elves - I fail to understand
how they are considered intelligent or knowledgeable - but virtually everyone.
After the millionth idiot said something, well, idiotic, my anger bubbled over
and I took a moment to explain. I doubt it got through, their head being thicker
than the pyrohydra skulls we use as the base for huts, but this is what I said.
Weh is not merely the word in some other language for 'death'. It is so much more.
Likewise, nor is Sra simply the word for 'life' in another language. The masses
masses think to embrace one means to reject the very existence of the other. That
is ridiculous. Both exist. Both MUST exist. The question is, what is the more worthy
and more important, and for that, there is no real debate. Weh. Weh provides the
necessary meaning, and reason, for Sra. Without Weh, Sra is meaningless. But without Sra,
Weh would still exist, in the dark void. Sra is not, as I told this one, simply killing
someone. Weh is broad and wide - infinitely. And indeed, Weh comes for Thera as it
it is now. My visions, the visions of others of the Eternal Night, know that it
only is a question of time before most of the Sra-loving inhabitants are dead or
enslaved. Weh is granular, and it is universal. It comes to the smallest, and to
entire worlds. Even gods. The Lyceum's list of gods once thought most powerful who
found Weh to be more powerful is very, very long.
Weh comes for me. It comes for you. It comes for all. It... is. Embrace it, Thera. Or
not. It does not care.
Pets
Added Tue Oct 21 09:14:45 2025 at level 32:
I had a pet, once. A python, taken in the swamp just south of the Weh village. I
wasn't allowed to go south or east of the Sra village. At least not until I just
did it anyway. But back to Pserrybiss. He was my constant companion, riding my shoulders
mostly, though sometimes, when walking in the west, he would slither and
warn me of things maybe I hadn't seen. Never once did anything to harm me, was loyal to a
fault, and in the end, died to keep me safe from a pyrohydra baby looking for some
food. I never thought there would be another like him. But...
Enter this orc Zograthe. A strange fool, that one. But so useful! Dumb like a
muckdweller, but with strange savant knowledge of things inside that tiny brain. Perhaps from
living in the heart of Thera, with ancestor after ancestor handing information down. Who knows.
But he is so easily manipulable! In some ways an even better pet than Pserrybiss. Pserrybiss
could never have gone and fetched me a new shield of flame when a random jaette man-at-arms
knocked it away. Pserrybiss could not have provided so much entertainment as when
Zograthe took the magic-hating buffoons' head and I picked my pleasure from their pit.
No, Zograthe has become my favorite pet. And best of all? He is favored of Weh. A deliverer of
Weh's, shall we say, message, like few others I have seen alive. I imagine we will do
great things when I finish growing, which shall be soon.
In any event, it is nice to have a pet again. *smile*
Great Achievements With One To Go
Added Sat Nov 1 17:53:36 2025 at level 40:
Ymstrecca is pleased. The God-King's tasks were challenging, but not beyond her. In
His great generosity he not only bequeathed her the right to have her guildmasters
teach her to use the God-King's divine power to lay pestilence across the lands, but his
own teeth tore into her flesh, leaving a permanently bleeding wound as proof of his
delight with her. No longer was his choosing her a thing to be kept from others.
Now it is not only known by her mark, but he has let the world know her as the Terryfing
Tormentor of his court. She grinned very widely upon seeing that for the first time, her
pointy teeth even brighter and sharper than usual.
Almost equally satisfying is how others now tread lightly around her. Fear is rampant.
Glory! True, some have got the better of her - trickery and unfair failures to be
the subject of vengeance tenfold! - but she delights in hearing tales of her reputation.
In particular she finds great amusement from those who when she was merely of twenty or so
ranks in the guild said oh, she will never advance! She is afraid of growing! And then when
when she did, and was then merely the thirty first, the chorus of oh! She will never grow,
she is afraid! grew cacaphoneous. And now she is of the fortieth rank, and again will
take whatever time she pleases, to ensure she is mistress of the powers she has been
given, to gather garments and gold, and, of course, to be Weh's embodiment as it
continues its eternal path through Thera - though now with purpose knowing as she does
that Thera is doomed, that the rift opens soon, and she and her fellow Scions
will have much to do and rule.
Which brings her to her one source of frustration: advancement to Chancellor or
Advisor. Many years have passed now and the Father of Sin has been silent.
She knows Takoa thinks himself most suitable, but of course he is wrong. Regardless, there
are two vacancies to fill and as long as she is one, Ymstrecca will succeed. She is focused
like the fly traps of her home marshes on the insect coming toward it, nothing else
taking its attention. And soon she is determined to find the Lord and gain the position of
leadership she knows she was born for and is destined to fulfill.
While she waits, Weh moves through her, more and more.
Glory Is Mine!
Added Tue Nov 11 22:54:03 2025 at level 40:
Long in coming, the moment almost went unnoticed. Buying some food to
replenish her supplies, she felt something but was not sure what; not
until an unholy divine voice spoke, warning of dire consequences should
she disappoint. And just like that she realized what had happened: the
Lords of the Night has chosen her as Chancellor! At the same moment they
made Takoa (and Takoa, that hysterical duo that seems fiction but who can
know for sure?) Advisor, and Ymstrecca would not lie - it felt good to be
above him. She was brought into the Night first, and she always senses his
belief that nonetheless he believes himself (themselves?) to be superior.
This must burn inside him. She relishes it.
Nonetheless she realizes that is but a tiny aspect of it all. A larger
part is after so many years and so much effort, she has fulfilled her final
task from the God-King. Even he was skeptical she could attain the leadership
of the Scions, and if so as second, Advisor. But no! She achieved beyond
even his challenge. Skreenak is perhaps the one and only person she feels
genuine affection and gratitude toward, and their symbiotic relationship is
one of the great sources of her sense of self. She looks forward to seeing
him and together celebrating her ascension.
The far larger, and more important take away is precisely what the Night's voice
said: do not disappoint. She is a serious person, believing everything
is her due, but even she understands all her days before are now different
from all her days after. She is dedicated. She is strong. She deserves more than
anyone and will ensure each day proves it. And most enjoyable, all Therans now talk
about her! Ugly?? No! Fierce! She is dark beauty, and Therans either appease her
or tremble. And she glories in it all.
Interview
Added Thu Dec 4 23:20:56 2025 at level 51:
"Thank you for sitting down with me, Chancellor, I know my readers
will be interested to hear from you."
"Of course, child, of course. The people need to hear from me, as I am
"their leader, their teacher, their example. I am, to be sure, a delight."
"First question! You have had so much success. Where have you failed?"
"Failure, child? None, of course! So many have learned of Weh, the
world now sees it comes to an end soon, and I and the few with the
wisdom to follow me will be stronger, more powerful, more wealthy, than
ever. It is glorious!"
"I see, Chancellor. Perhaps let me ask a different way. Is there any
"disappointment in your life? Anything you regret, or wish were different?"
"Mmm, what an interesting question. Of course so many times the little
things stand out. I admit I was surprised the guildmaster would not
teach me to be a sightbinder, that sounded quite delicious. And I
suppose Takoa's stupidity disappointed. I knew he was never
going to be Chancellor, and that he bristled. But even I was surprised by
his idiocy. He did know things, to be sure. But that is no regret, and he
is not missed."
"And for my final question: What is your next goal? Having achieved so
much, what could be left for you?"
"An excellent question, child! How impressive you are. You are quite
correct, no one has come further, done more, made more of herself
thank I. Ever. From the muck of the marsh to Chancellor of Eternal Night!
To a marked of the God-King Skreenak! It is hard to imagine, is it not,
child? I am glorious. And the best part? I deserver every ounce of it
and more. What next you ask? More! More of everything! More gold! Finer
garments! Greater power! More adulation and fear among the peons! Yes!
That is what is next for me, child. From now until the door opens
and Thera is changed, forever."
"Thank you, Chancellor, I appreciate your time. And not bringing
Weh to me while we sat here!"
"Never let it be said I am not a gift-giving wonder, child. It is
a little known truth about me. Spread the word!"
Instructing Scions
Added Tue Dec 30 01:21:56 2025 at level 51:
My dear scribe, here is my latest missive to the Chasm. Record it for
posterity - the few who shall survive, of course.
My Scions, we need more fuel for our work. What, you ask, is
the fuel? Weh! That is correct. Each time we embody Weh, each time
we bring Weh to those we face - which is virtually all Therans -
we create greater force for the opening of the Portal. This is
why we do not merely recruit scholars. Scholars are copper-a-dozen.
We are not copper. We are not silver. We are not even gold. We
are beyond gold, far more valuable and rare. This is why
when you speak to those who seek to join us, you must not only
challenge their research, their knowledge, but also their
ability to withstand the most difficult of all lives, the lives
of those in the Night. I have spent my life with Weh, and all of you
must as well, to ensure our great purpose is fulfilled, and soon.
Keep this in mind when you engage in your individual research.
We must combine them all, and put them into effect together
with the power of Weh. Do not let anything stand in your way. Take
everything! Amass power! Wealth! Souls! All in earnest of our
shared goal. Do not let anything stand in our way.
I look forward to our standing on the ashes of Thera.
