Zameida Bowline the Boundless Horror, Turned Away by the Storm, Advisor to the Chancellor

Zameida held her breath and dove beneath the surface, a new world opened up
to her, filled with beautiful colors on a dark blue setting, the waters were
bustling with life as she took off to hunt for the meal of the day. 
As she swam she could hear the music of the ocean, the rocks moving from the
current, accompanied by her own slow and steady heartbeats. For a moment she
let her focus slip and allowed herself to relax and enjoy the freedom,
however limited by her lungs it might be. She regained her focus and swam
down to the bottom as she had found a good spot. There she waited. 

As she waited in a somewhat meditative trance, her memories came to surface...

Zameida, come her love. A stocky bearded man motioned for her to come and sit
on his lap. He had a pipe in his mouth and the smoke was thick in the cabin. 


Zameida didnt hesitate, she adored her father and the six-year old girl
quickly sprung to his lap, hoping that hed once again tell her about one of
his fishing trips, or even better, one where he boarded another ship and took
their belongings for his own. 

And as she had hoped, he began to tell her about his latest conquer, a small
merchant vessel had been boarded by her father, Captain Niels Bowline. 

Officially he was the captain of a fishing vessel, with a small crew of
fishermen. But anyone looking closer would see that the small catches they
did bring in didnt really support the size and quality of the ship, the
number of crewmembers or the quality of their tools. In the seaport he was
mostly known for bringing in all sorts of interesting goods, and the
coastguard ignored him due to the hefty sums he had bribed them with. Captain
Neils Bowline wasnt a very lawful man, although he did truly enjoy order on
his ship. He ran a tight crew, every man knew exactly what to do, and what
the price they had to pay if they didnt do it. 
Unfortunately for Zameida Captain Neils had the same philosophy in his home,
raising his only daughter alone. Zameida never knew what had happened, but
the truth was that Captain Neils had given the same punishment to his wife as
he did to his crewmembers for subordination, he had keelhauled her, she did
not survive that. 
To his daughter he said that she had thrown her self in the ocean to join the
mermaids. 

It was a fond memory, one of many she had of her father before her world got
destroyed...

As she stayed still the life around her came closer, got accustomed to her
seemingly harmless presence, and just as she her lungs couldnt take anymore,
a fish came close enough, with a quick thrust of her arm she caught it and
quickly began to resurface, as she swam towards the surface the memories came
to her again...

A beautiful young woman, or girl perhaps stood at the reeling of a vessel,
obviously used to the rough sea as she just seemed to move with the ship. A
stocky gray-bearded man stood on the deck, watching her, they had been on the
ocean for a long time now, and one could clearly see the lust in his eyes as
he stared at the beautiful girl. He moved towards her, gently placing his
arms around her, embracing her. She quickly turned around and smiled. As
their eyes met, the young girl was obviously just that, still a girl, looked
surprised, and the smile faded from her face as the old mans face moved
closer, pressing his lips against hers, pressing his tongue in between her
lips. The girl tried to get away, trying to slip out of the mans grasp. She
tried to talk, with his lips on hers one could still clearly still hear her. 

Father! Father! Please stop! Dont do this... The old man had no problems
subduing the girl, carrying her towards the cabin, the screaming was replaced
with the howling of the wind as the crewmembers watched in silence as their
captain and his daughter disappeared behind the cabin door. 

Air! Zameidas face broke the surface, greedily precious air she so badly
needed she began to swim towards shallow water, hunger tearing through her
stomach, finally she could feed! She glanced up towards the skies, she could
sense a storm coming, fitting for her mood se the memories returned to her...

She had cried, a lot, fearing for her fathers wrath, she knew he wouldnt
like it, so she kept it a secret, the life within her. How much she loved it,
and hated it, the little creature growing inside her. Her own, and yet It
was his. But it had started to become more and more hard to conceal it, if
she had just known a few days earlier she wouldnt have come up with a reason
somehow, or ran away, instead of boarding the ship again. Now she was stuck
out here on the aryth ocean for months, she had no escape...
It did not take long for her father to find out, far quicker than she had
expected. The wrath had been agonizing, if she had known of her mother, she
would have known what were to come. 
The ropes had been tied tightly around her, they hadnt bothered to tie up
her hands, as there were no escape on the great ocean, and the haul had
begun. Once she got under the surface she knew that shed survive hauling,
and that shed most likely be killed as she broke the surface. So she decided
that shed rather live or die at the whims of Captain Neltouda, than to her
fathers wrath, so she quickly untied the knots and uttered a prayer to the
great captain, asking her for mercy, a quick and painless death. Then she let
go...

Her knees touched the bottom, she had reached the little island. Island might
be a bit much of a word, it was a reef, depending on the tide, she had a few
hours each day where she could rest on dry sand, before the tide came back in
and she was knee deep in water. It mattered little, she lived, and there was
small rock, too small to lay down on, but at least it accumulated water
during the rains, and the reef was dry long enough for her to sleep a few
hours on it each day. Today however, she would eat! She had food! It had been
far to long now, several days since she last ate something... As that thought
crossed her mind, dark memories took hold of her again...

She had drifted for too long in the currents, floating on the surface, barely
able to grasp for air between the waves when something hit her hard in the
stomach, a rock! She quickly used what strength she had left to cling onto
it, and she did not let go, not until the weather shifted, and the tide came
in, suddenly she found herself on a small sand reef, with a single small rock
rising seven feet from the water. As she climbed up she realized that it
wasnt of much help, but there was a basin of water in it, the body reminded
her of its need for water and she drank. 
A few days went by, she was in pain, her stomach were a swollen balloon of
pain, and she was bleeding, she knew it was a bad sign, something had
happened to the creature within her. During the next low-tide she delivered,
two months too early. The child was not alive, she held it in her arms only
for a brief moment before her body reminded her of its needs, she had not
eaten since she had been hauled around the keel, and all rational thoughts
left her mind, unconscious tears gushed from her eyes as she devoured the
lifeless infant, covered in her own and her infants blood she fell as sleep
on the beach...

Zameida tore at the small fish with her teeth as tears were making their way
down her chins.

Every day that Zameida found food to eat, reminded her of what she had done,
and every time the images of her baby came to her, she could taste the blood,
each image pushed further and further in to the dark shadows of her mind,
pushing her towards insanity. 
She began to fantasize about her father, some days it was intricate ways of
torturing him, some days it was intricate ways of regaining his love, but
most of the time, her fantasies are filled with a chaotic dark storm, azure
lightning blasting through the skies, pulsating in rhythm with the waves on a
black sea. 

Each day Zameida found herself swimming further and further away from the
reef until one day she almost sensed the shoreline on the horizon rather than
seeing it, now she had a goal, shed find a way to become one of those heroes
of Thera she had heard so much about, perhaps something where she could make
use of her affinity for water. As hero she could explore the world and
perhaps one day meet the fabled godess to praise her for the mercy she once
shown. 

Zameida is a broken toy, insanity rages back and forth within her and she
does not yet know her true desires. She desperately needs to do something
with her life, she just does not know what. She has inherited her fathers
lust for treasures and travels, she does not feel it yet but it is something
that grows within her, 
She has never heard of the Chasm, the Scions or the prophecy, but once she
does, it is something that will awaken her desires and pull her towards them.

She will try to seek out Captain Neltouda, mostly to give he praise and show
her gratitude for sparing her life, that however is with bipolar emotions, as
her surviving on the ocean, forced her to do awful things, if they meet, it
is bound to be a conflicting event.

Congratulations! The chirping voice of an old man echoed through Zameidas
head. 
Suddenly she felt immense powers flood through her, she could feel The
Scepter. 
Come to me. The chirping voice echoed in her head again, and she knew where
to go. 
When she arrived to the cave, a wretched abomination of an arial stood before
her, Zynzyn, or what left of him, were standing before her. 
I sense that you will serve the Chasm well, and I hope that you will put
these to good use young mage... Suddenly he was gone, and all that was left
were his armors and garments in a heap on the cavern floor. Now she was a
Scion, her choice had been taken from her. 

Months later...

She more sensed it than saw it when she searched the cellar and she quickly
put the key into the lock. The old advisor had been right, there was indeed
something more in this old city, she remembered her companions and shaped her
mouth into a smile and beckoned for them to follow. Theyd have no idea what
theyd be witness to soon, if the rumors were true, they might actually get a
glimpse of one of the few open portals leading directly to the plane of
shadows. 
They pressed forward, the gnome and even the dwarf let their mouths hang
open, surprised by the sudden change of environment, not even the dust moved
as they walked. 
Zameida closely examined every inch of the walls and pillars supporting the
construction, she suspected that there could be many things hidden in a place
like this, and she was right, soon, deep in an alcove she found runes of both
the golden grimoire and the warders, obviously it was them that had sealed of
the place as whomever had managed with the feat had failed with the secrecy.
Zameida nodded slightly to herself, by now she had forgotten about her
companions following her footsteps, the gnome almost stepping on her robe as
fear could be seen in his eyes. 

As they moved deeper into the darkness Zameida suddenly stopped and giggled,
they had reached the lab, now she knew that shed find what she came for,  to
study a fully functional portal to the shadow plane. 

Zameida didnt get a choice to join the Scions or not, she had pledged to
them, but that was mostly out of curiosity, now she was a full fledged
member, and she could feel the weight of the pledge and oath, but she could
also feel the awesome power that surged within her when the archmage held The
Scepter, she was now bound for life and after visiting the Lyceum and finding
the open portal, she had a feeling that the choice fate had made for her, was
the right one... The perfect dark storm, only in a place like the shadow plane
must such things exists, and now she is determined to open portals herself,
perhaps not as much as to spread the darkness to Thera and allow the Cculgra
entrance, but rather to be able to visit the shadow plane herself, explore
its knowledge, wealth and its artifacts. 
But to steer the chasm in the right direction, she will need to be
manipulative, and eventually take the reins herself, perhaps as advisor, or
even Chancellor. For now though, she will need to manipulate the senior
members of the fold, so that the Chancellor doesnt decide to cut her off
from the Scepter, the archmages minstrel has already been swayed, now she
must find another as well...

Year 1780, 7th of the long shadows, day of the moon. 

Yes, Ive begun writing a journal. The studies have now become so intense
that its hard to keep track of them without penning them down. So many
places visited, so many books, journals and scrolls read, I almost have
calluses on my hands from all the page turning. 

So, Ive reached my pinnacle. Much less exciting than I expected, Ive
learned the form of the dolphin which had me quite aroused since I had heard
so much about it, only to learn that the dolphins have become weaker for some
reason, I wonder if there has been some sort of disease I should investigate
this at some point. 

Having studied the portal in Azuremain sprung this sudden thirst of
knowledge, before it was just some unguided natural instinct that drove me to
the Chasm, now I know why. I will be the new Kiendosi, one that does not make
sloppy mistakes and nearly destroys Thera. Though the portal, or portals I
will form, must be two-way-portals, I must have full access to the shadow
plane, and somehow, I must get the leverage over the Cculgra.

I actually went and spoke with Kiendosi, but it was a mistake to go there
with the minstrel Kiraava and that foolish half-blood Narisston. The
half-blood lost his temper as Kiendosi did not respond. I will have to go
there another time and try to speak with him alone.

After studying our libraries I found out that there might be a link in
DraMelkur, but after studying their libraries I found very little of use,
except that they seem to seek something similar to us, but from another
plane.

I have learned quite some things, and next time I meet with Davarrah I hope
to learn even more, I long for my next visit to the Shadow planes, that
trader... Theres something about him...

Year 1782, 23rd of the great evil, day of deception.

My studies have taken me to Drak'Melkur, but not much could be learned there
than what was already known. However, I did move to the silver claw sect
hidden in the Arkham Sewers, and judge by my surprise when I found out that
they worship some creature called Naathreh from the shadow plane, as I
confronted the high priest he refused to speak with me, so, I killed him. As
I struck him though a DrukTar came to his aid, so their link cannot be as
weak as it appears, unfortunately I could not translate their book of
prayers, I need to examine this closer in the future. 

I was recently informed by Davarrah that she has paused her dealings with me
as long as Kiraava is advisor, fortunately, that is no longer the case. The
dark gods of the Chasm came down and appointed a new Chancellor after a trial
of blood. I failed myself as the trial caught me unprepared, and I was
bested. The new chancellor chose to keep Kiraava, who then just took her
life. It is no secret that the Chancellor dislikes me, so I have been working
hard to get into his good graces so that the manipulation can begin. I must
become advisor, I must gain his trust. 
Either way, it should be possible to pick up the dealings with Davarrah now
again as Kiraava is gone. 

I have been working on something entirely different as of late, I have
composed a song. A song to inspire and impress the Captain, and to give the
others some strength to pull through hard time. Not that the times are
anywhere near as hard when I first were selected to join the Chasm by the
late Zynzyn. I wonder if she will like it...

Drekvah has this far proven to be a good choice to make use of, he will be of
good use in the dealings with Davarrah. Falkaine however, I can no longer
trust as much, I need to probe his mind to see how deep the Chancellor has
clawed his way into his mind. 
I wonder if the sphere can be build? Either way, I will need both Drekvah and
some invoker. Perhaps I can enlist someone outside of the Chasm for the task
when the time comes? Well, that is a problem for the future.

The thin woman paced slowly around the table centered in this dark and gloomy
room. Suddenly she comes to a halt, out of nowhere a dark robed figure stands
next to the table, followed by a number of rotting zombies. 

I am here animagus. 

Pale skin and pointy ears can be seen beneath the cowl, an aura of death
surrounds this drow as his large eyes peers at the thin woman. 
Slowly the womans lips widen in a smile, showing a set of perfectly shiny
white teeth, deep in contrast to the dried cakes of blood around her mouth.
Her eyes are fixed at the drow, cold as the depts of the seas. 

Yes, I have summoned you here Drekvah, because, yet again, I have something
for you. 

She reaches into a girdle and pulls out a small object, a mischievous grin
covers her face as she hands it over. 

The drow, seemingly uninterested utters a few words before his yaws drop wide
open as he gasps in astonishment. 

Where did you find this?

A clinging laughter echoes through the chasm as the woman open her mouth. 

Ooh, I will tell you Drekvah, once you have sworn yourself to me and my
cause. And you already do know about my cause. 

The drow slowly nods, peering at the woman before speaking.

This would mean that your word would be above the chancellors to me?

Leaning heavily on the table in front of her, the woman nods towards the
drow. 

It is a dangerous game you play Zameida, and I will accept on one condition,
if you become our next Chancellor, you will make me your advisor. 

Throwing her arms in the air, giggling franticly the woman nods. 

Yes Drekvah, should I become Chancellor, you will be my advisor. 

Quickly the woman pulls out a small knife, cutting herself deep in the palm
of her hand, quickly clenching the fist until blood starts dripping on the
floor. The woman walks over to the drow, spits in her bloodied hand and
extends it towards the drow. 
In the meanwhile the drow pulls out a rusty knife, cutting his finger tip as
he spits in his hands and graps hold of the womans hand. 
Throwing her head back, the woman laughs into the night, a laughter that
continues even after the drow unnoticed has left the chamber. 

Zameida has continued to build up her reputation within the Chasm, bringing
the war towards their enemies, researching harder than ever, though only
tidbits of the information she unravels she forwards to the Chancellor,
enough to keep him content and her within his good graces. She will not share
her plans with him unless he appoints her as his advisor, and in the
meanwhile, she will plot for his demise, building up trust among the other
Scions, making them look up to her for leadership and guidance. If he will
not appoint her as his advisor, then he does not deserve to be the
Chancellor. She has now bound the young drow Drekvah to herself, she fear
however, that she has lost Falkaine to the Chancellor, whom now seem to only
share his theories and research with the invoker, hopefully she will manage
to meet with Falkaine soon enough again, and steer him back to the fold and
away from the Chancellor. 

Her research has however shown that there is a possibility for her to
construct a copy of Davarrahs sphere of Temperance. She has already gathered
a few things that she suspects that she will need, the orb of furious flames
as well as the orb of twilight. And for the connection with the shadow plane,
she will use a similar shard of onyx that she gave to the Chancellor for his
experiment, containing the lost memories of a lich. But yet, there is
something missing, and what it is, eludes her. She suspects that she might
need some divine power to make it all come together. 
She longs for this sphere to be built, it will truly be an eye of the storm
she plans to unleash on Thera, with her and the sphere in its center. 

More than half of her life has now passed, and it has been years since she
last saw her Captain, her heart is somewhat heavy because of this, but she
knows its the way of the storm, they come and go, and such long silence
bodes for a great storm, perhaps even The storm. She will continue to pray
for her Captain and practice her singing voice so that she may perform the
song well enough to be fitting for a god. 

Looked up through the darkness of the Chasm, torches lit along its walls. It
seemed like an eternity since she first walked these stairs. Long gone where
the days when the chasm echoed from her lonely steps in the stairs, the fold
nearly full... Zynzyn had made some good choices in his last hour, the late
Advisor had brought in the the future advisor. 
Zameida shivered briefly at the thought, not many weeks had passed since lord
Reksah had stood before her, pointing that crossbow directly at her, while
questioning her. Apparently her answers had been satisfactory, because she
was now together with Narissorin the most powerful Archmage in Thera, and his
advisor. 

Zameida looked down on the parchment again, reading it carefully again to see
if something needed to be changed. It was vital that the choice of words were
perfect, she did not yet know how her newfound power would affect her
relationship with Narissorin, no doubt he was already intimidated by her, and
most likely more so now than before, since she had a sneaking suspicion that
he had nothing to do with it. 

As the parchment folded by itself in her hand, she uttered a few words and
sealed it magically. It would have to do, after all, Narissorin wasnt as bad
as she had suspected. He did posses some interesting qualities, perhaps she
should tie him even closer to herself? If nothing else, it would help her get
rid of that annoying tribunal, Islinic. Her eyes narrowed and her mouth
contorted into grimace of disgust as she thought of how his lips had touched
hers when he surprised her by attempting to kiss her, why had she let him
live? His use hardly outweighed the transgression, perhaps she just werent
as bloodthirsty as she once were. She let a smile spread over her face as she
closed her eyes and thought of her youth, how she had been looking for
conflict wherever conflict could be found. Now, in the prime of her life, she
knew better. The thirst for knowledge, the new and exciting was far more
tempting than the lust for blood and trinkets that were so plentiful in the
corpses she put down. No, she knew that a bigger storm was needed than what
the trampling feet of the Rhinoceros would provide, a storm so big that it
would wash up endless of riches and untold secrets! She needed that sphere!

Zameida now considers to take Narissorin as a mate as she believes he has the
right traits and it might be easier to control him then, if she can force
herself to be close to a man again after her fathers abuse.
Her age has also brought her more self reflection, and insight, seeing the
grander scheme in things. 
She is quite content with her position as Advisor, at least for the time
being. 

Year 1792, 20th of the Long Shadows, Day of the Sun.

My writings has been slim and my progress slow. I got the opportunity to
study Davarrah. It was as disheartening as it was invigorating. The construct
is immensely complex and Davarrah confirmed what I suspected, an artificer
would be needed to construct something similar. She did however also confirm
its function, it tampest with possibilities, thus the shifting of the plates
to align it correctly. At least I have all that is needed for the endeavor,
all that I need is an artificer. And those are not easy to come by. The only
one I know about that is powerful enough resides in Nyathl Ikalith, but the
path there remains unknown, the deluded dwarf speaks of a woman that can
guide me through the fogs, but she will not reveal herself. I have ordered
those of the Chasm to make use of their contacts in Thera in search of an
artificer, but my hopes remain slim. 

Narissorin, the fool, has refused to share information regarding his ritual.
But I strongly suspect that it will be lacking and that it end his life. He
will not be a suitable mate, I will have to let him die and take the reins of
the Chasm, and make sure that those who are present and survive the ritual,
will report all of it to me. Perhaps something can be learned from it.

Drekvah have had a meeting with Davarrah, but I am certain he is keeping
things to himself. I will need to try to get Davarrah to inform me of this. 

I have also found an interesting apprentice among the crew, a young female
storm giant named Drunnyn. She is not the smartest of the lot, but she has
something, a shame that she does not seem to carry the seed, her desires are
too simplistic. However, she seems to be the opposite of me, as in a magnetic
polarity. She claims to follow the storms, as I claim to bring them, it is
not wonder that we have met. I will guide and teach her about the storms, and
we shall see if my Captain approves of my lessons. Perhaps there is more to
me, that I can gain insight to from this. 

Year 1798, 14th of the Winter Wolf, Day of the Moon.

My suspicions were somewhat correct regarding the Chancellors ritual. It was
a failure, but not in the sense I had anticipated. He was not even close to
accomplish what we seek, and I was shocked to see this failure, as I actually
had higher thoughts of him. And I as I stated the lack of sacrifice within
the ritual, he decided to give them my blood. Of course, he was the one to be
sacrificed. 
This might have been my chance to take control of the Chasm, but the lack of
progress in my work is a barrier that for the time being seems impossible to
press through. There simply arent any artificers in Thera, at least not on
our plane. 

So, it is quite obvious as to what I must do: 
1: I need an artificer of great power.
2: There are none in our plane of existence in Thera.
3: I know that one resides within Nyathl Ikalith.
4: Thus, I must gain entrance to Nyathl Ikalith.

Though this might prove harder than I had expected, the dwarf in Udgaard lied
to me. I never found any woman in the mountains, either that, or the powers
of the tower has found out about her. Not that it matters, there must be
another way inside. 

I have been running a few smaller projects on the side as of late, with the
intent of extending my time on Thera. The curse of aging is most unfortunate
and annoying and even if my connection with the Scepter has slowed it down,
there must be more to do. 
I have implanted a device within Wess, some minstrel seeking our ranks, in
hopes that it will strengthen his heart, as well as injecting Ktengs famous
concoction directly into his heart and bloodstream, those two combined might
slow down his aging, but this far none of his reports has shown any signs of
it working. I might have to cut dissect him again, and see if something is
wrong in there. 

Next time I meet Davarrah, I must discuss both my plans Perhaps she knows a
way to reach Nyathl Ikalith, and I know that she knows a way to extend my
life. She has mentioned the alchemists, this has intrigued me greatly since I
am one of the greatest alchemist of our time, I wonder if there is an
alchemist among her council. I must ask her about this, and about the
possibility to study under them perhaps...

Year 1801, 13th of the Month of the Dark Shades, Day of the Great Gods.

I have met with Davarrah, what I have done for her must certainly have proved
useful to her, as she granted me an amazing gift, she brought me to a great
library where she showed me this book, on how to shape myself into a
Nightmare. No doubt it is a part of her plans in this Necropolis of hers.
Either way, her plans seems to align quite well with my own so I will
continue to dedicate my time and power with her, if I wish to fulfill the
prophecy, I will need more time! I cannot accept death in quite some time!
Undeath would serve me well, and Davarrah is the key for extending my life in
any way at all, I must do whatever it takes. Perhaps if I brought her to my
laboratory?
Now it feels odd, that I wasted so much time deluding myself, following a god
just because I somehow thought that I owed her my life. The only one I owe my
life to, are myself...

Drekvah has come closer to our goals, the mad priest now speaks with him, and
as far as Ive gathered, Drekvah has found all the items the priest seeks,
soon, very soon, we shall see if he obtains his lichdom or not. All I really
care about, are to be there and witness it, be it a success or not.




Zameidas failure with gaining Neltoudas favour and attention has made her
question her reasons for following the goddess, and she has come to the
conclusion that she only has herself to thank for being alive. She has put
all her eggs in one basket, focusing on learning things from Davarrah. 

Zameida focuses more and more on two things, satisfying her lust for blood
and knowledge and finding a way to prolong her life. 

Year 1825, 15th of the Month of the Battle, Day of the Bull

A new chancellor has been elected. I was certain that I would not live to see
that day. Well, it is one that I picked myself once, and the one I did
foresee to gain that title. 

I have also managed to reveal to myself that I shall live for at least ten
more years, enough time to finish the construction of the gate. The gate to
my immortality. I am certain that once I manage to cross over to the Shadow
Plane again, my spirit will be released and I will be able to live there for
an eternity, studying all of which I have ever wanted. The day the prophecy
is fulfilled, I will be able to make my way back to Thera again, more
powerful than ever and dominate the Scions whom might be protected from the
Cculgra with the Scepter, but not from me...

This will be the last update I make in this journal, and I hope, with all of
my heart, that someone finds this after my passing, and understand what it
means, because when they do, I shall feel the horror spreading from them...

Let me through, and I shall prey on your fears!
