Our tale starts 55 years ago far from the mines and forges of the dwarven Kingdom.
A beautiful elven woman set out on a journey to prove her faith and bring light to
a darkening world. Quenyan DalVale was her name and during quest she would
come fight and learn to love at the side of Korak HammerStrike.
This odd couple would go on to bear a child, his name was Zamos. Dedicated to their
faith and combat against the darkness the child was sent to live with an uncle in the
dwarven city of Akan. Only this child would never of his parents, for only months later
word reached the city of their deaths. Rumors spoke of a terrible ending to their lives
at the hands of the Empire.
Daram HammerStrike was a stubborn dwarf, a blacksmith by trade his life dedicated to
his forge. He did the best he could in raising Zamos but the boy seemed to have too much
of his father in him. More interested in playing war with his friends than learning how to
properly stoke a fire and hammer the finest edge to a blame.
Years passed and little Zamos was not so little anymore, quickly surpassing most of his friends
in height and ears that were only slightly pointed as baby became distinct. These changes
brought many questions and with a heavy heart Daram admitted he was not Zamos true father.
This revelation brought about a change in Zamos. It started when he begged his uncle to make
him a sword so he could learn to fight. Soon after the teenage Zamos could often be found
attending prayer at the temple in the city proper. The young was consumed with a burning
desire to know the truth of his heritage. To know who his parents were and what was more
important than the child they left behind.
A journey of discovery

His uncle had countless stories about his father from their youth, and early adult lives.
It seemed his father Korak had served as in Akans cityguard for a number of years. Even
gaining quite a bit of fame for his prowess in combat. Daram didnt know much about what came
came of his brother once he left Akan, only that he spoke often of squiring in something called
the fortress.
The only advice Daram had was to suggest that Zamos begin his search in Daryslon,
his mothers birthplace. The reception the dwarf received in the elven city was not a pleasant
one. Those who knew of his mother scoffed at his claims of being her child, stating matter of
factly that the fine lady Quenyan would never do such a thing. When they werent ignoring
in the martial and spiritual arts. A disciple of the paladins guild who had lived the virtues of
the ancient god Shokai. After many months and little progress beyond the occasional kind word
word about his mother he left Daryslon.
Having heard of a great library he headed for the Inn of the Eternal Star. It was in those dusty
shelves he read of the lord Shokai, and the eternal war against the darkness. For days he
poured over tome after tome, reading everything he could of this Fortress. To him it all
sounded like bedtime stories told to child. Surely such awful people couldnt truly exist.
Zamos was familiar with orcs, but everyone knew they were nasty wild beasts. The youthful
dwarf just couldnt fathom the idea person willingly choosing to bring suffering and pain for their
own gain. Finding nothing directly mentioning his parents Zamos had decided his journey was at
an end and he would return to Akan.
A life changed

It was on the pristine streets of Voralia that Zamos would find the answers that had eluded him
for so long. He would witness the acts that some are truly capable of on the street of charity. A
sceam pierced the air and Zamos ran to its source. Three rough looking men were brutally
slaughtering citizens of the fair city out in the open. Worst of a all one of the victims was but
a small child. He stared in disbelief for a few moments before gaining his sense and his hand
went to the sword at his side. With a roar he drew his blade and charged.
Zamos doesnt remember much what happened next but the priest whose face
he saw when he awoke said it was truly a miracle that the dwarf had survived.
Over the next few days this priest and Zamos would speak often. The holy
man saying that murder of innocents was a common occurrence and the cityguard
looked the other way, more concerned with their own hides. Each night as he laid
down to sleep the screams of the little girl would haunt his dreams. It was only after
seeing firsthand this darkness the tomes spoke of that he came to understand the
action of his parents. There truly was something more important in the world,
for how could one ever hope to find true peace when they knew such wickedness
existed.
When his wounds were fully healed he thanked the priest and walked out of
the temple to start a new life. A life in which he would devote himself to the
downfall of wicked men. The tenets of the Spear Maiden Baerinika he had
read of within the inn resonated within his heart. He had never known her
but Zamos would honor her by joining the paladins guild in her footsteps.
With a smile the guard of the paladins guild greeted Zamos.
A dwarfs code
Added Sat Jun 15 14:40:39 2013 at level 33:
Far and wide across the lands of Thera, the members of the paladins guild are known
for their strict adherence to the a code of morality. Zamos himself struggled daily
when he first joined the guild to maintain such an outlook on life. However as the
years passed he came to see that this code went far beyond words scribed to stone
but they became a part of him, a piece of his very soul. Typical of his dwarven heritage
Zamos saw the code as something mutable, something to be forged into something greater.
Inspired by the words of his now dead yet still highly revered kin Tolgrumm Hammerhand
Zamos uses the virtues of faith as a guide in his life. Purity is to be placed above all and is
the guiding factor in every decision he makes. For how can one claim the moral high ground
when they themselves let things such as greed, revenge and hate taint their souls. Many would
think little of Temperance but it through temperance that one can truly gain perspective and
strength. For it is temperance that truly sets apart a paladin from another who takes up the
sword against the darkness. Through temperance our war becomes retribution against
the wrongs committed by the choking tendrils of darkness and not the revenge lesser men
would take against sleights against they or their friends. Courage should be at the forefront
of ones mind when entering all skirmishes or drawn out engagements. For those of the paladins
guild are a light tower in the fog of the darkness to guide our allies and give them strength.
Courage is standing tall when the battle is lost but your death will bring escape or hope to
to your allies. Last of all only through dedication to the lady Baerinika and the ideals she
to your allies. Last of all only through dedication to the lady Baerinika and the ideals she
in their faith.
Update

That young idealistic dwarf who left Voralia determined to shape the world has
grown into an adult. Through the passing of seasons and of those he would name
friend, Zamos views about the world have slowly changed. Long gone are the
day dreams about himself shod in shining armor from head to toe being hailed
as the sole savior of Thera. So too are the notions of a clean war in which his
actions alone could prevent the loss of innocent life. Years of warfare have
hardened the dwarf in some regards and yet in others way they have opened
his eyes and heart. Where once he would take the bonds of friendship and
loyalty that are forged on the frontlines between soldiers for granted. Zamos
understands that these are things to be cherished, for too often they are fleeting.
Having been risen from squirehood to the respected position of Maran, Zamos
has found himself conflicted with his desire for purity within himself. He is torn
knowing that his actions and commands have lead to the death of some of his
fellow squires and maran. Knowing they too have taken oaths of their own to
the war he struggles with reconciling some responsibility without infringing
their honor or belitting their sacrifces.
So too does he sometimes question his actions when standing over the corpses
of the wicked. There have been times he has taken things he or his allies could
make no use of. Initially his desire was to keep such artifacts out of the hands
of the depraved souls he battles. That was until the Shadow Lord said it was
greed that guided the dwarfs hand. Could it possibly be true? That one of the vices
of the dark lords have taken root within his soul.
