Description
The years show their toll on this half-drow. He still looks strong and
handsome, yet his features are no longer of the young man he was before.
His hair is cut very short, and kept in a very orderly fashion, not a
single strand out of place. His eyes are steeled and calm, never
betraying his emotions to you. His voice is melodic and calming, as if
he's practiced gaining the perfect sounds and pitches while speaking.
The reddish color of his eyes only add to the darker look that's taken
upon his face. It is quite obvious he has forsaken his former life
within the light. His toned body is covered in armors which are
tightened down to fight perfectly, and not a single strap is out of
place, not even the smallest of scuffs on his boots.

The wind whipped around two silhoulettes slowly trekking across the
tundra, one a full-grown man, the other still a child, and while being
half-drow, had striking similarity with the older man. Any doubt of them
being related was dispelled the instant they started speaking.
"Son, you shouldn't have come along with me, this man is dangerous." The
older man yelled over the wail of the wind.
"But father, I wish to follow your footsteps, become the man you are.
You do good things for Thera."
The older man just let out a sigh. "Alright, but when we see my target,
you hide, stay out of danger."
His half-drow son nodded, and they pushed on, hoping to find this dark
man soon.
Not an hour later, they come across the small village inhabited by fela.
Both stayed silent as they moved through the village, knowing who could
be behind any corner, waiting for them. It happened suddenly, a
lightning bolt erupted from behind a small building, heading for the
half-drow. Reacting quickly, the boy's father shoved him aside, and took
the bolt straight to the chest. Before he could get back up onto his
feet, a dark, hooded figure was on top of him, swinged his axe wildly,
violently.
Within a few seconds, it was over. The goodly human lay dead, an aura of
pure white slowly dissipating, while the dark, cloaked man stood over
him, his axe dripping with blood, screaming as it took his soul.
Mortified, the child ran from that place. He ran fast and far, until he
could run no more, and collapsed in the middle of the tundra, lost in the
wastes.
The Orphanage
Added Thu Dec 12 20:06:53 2013 at level 4:
Zerliae came to slowly, tired, weak, and cold. He opened his eyes, but
snapped them shut again, the light causing him pain. How long had I been
out, he wondered to himself. He heard voices, but he couldn't make them
out, all his senses still blurred. Another hour passed before anything
started making sense. He slowly sat up, looking around at the room, and
the faces. It seemed as if he was in an orphanage. Everything came back
to him, the tundra, the dark man, and worst of all, his father was dead.
He tried to fight back tears, to be tough, but he couldn't. His anguish
was met by a hard slap.
"Be quiet, boy!" an older man scolded. "Know your place, you belong to
me, now."
Zerliae continued to wail, continued to feel an emptiness, longing for
his father. Another slap stung his wet cheek. This continued for hours,
until Zerliae had lost conciousness.
Next he woke, the young half-drow did not cry, he only felt empty. He
did as he was told, and was often scolded and beaten for not showing joy
in scrubbing floors and cleaning the place.
Realizations
Added Thu Dec 12 20:08:40 2013 at level 4:
Zerliae, twenty-three years old now, helped run the very orphanage he was
raised in. He tried to keep a goodly heart, but the order of this place
had been beaten and instilled into him. He watched as the young boys of
this place cleaned and scrubbed, and disciplined those who did not show
gratitude to those who cared for them.
He understood now. They never wanted gratitude for working hard, only
for the fact that Zerliae had a place to sleep, to eat, and a roof over
his head. They gave him simple comforts, and he only had to work to
maintain it. Soon he would be out in the world, following his fathers
footsteps, yet he would always keep what he learned here.
Everyone has their place, and everyone should be grateful their place is
secure. Those who do not follow an orderly way threaten this very way of
life. While not keen to murder them, Zerliae believed he must show them
the correct path. He knew the god which he must seek out, the Lord of
this very concept. Order, everyone has their place. Zerliae was
grateful for his, and he would show Destuvius how grateful he was.
An Impass
Added Mon Dec 16 19:40:15 2013 at level 27:
Zerliae stood in a place of confusion at the moment. Shortly after his
talk with the Holy Overseer, another of his guild, Deallyn, struck a
minotaur within Galadon. Now only was he betraying his orderly nature,
but even his own code. Is this what passed for upstanding citizens
within the light? Was Zerliae wrong in his path?
While in Thera's past, Ergoth, War master of the Empire, and Loremaster
of Destuvius, passed by Zerliae. Obviously not one to associate with the
tainted, Zerliae did not mention much to him. Destuvius' voice boomed
throughout the forest, warning the young Templar of his transgressions.
Learning from this critical error, Zerliae, who had grown more and more
into a true Destuvian, has shown the utmost respect for both Ergoth, and
Qintaris, Destuvius' Archbishop. While it felt foreign, it did not feel
wrong, for they knew the correct path, and have proven to be better than
those of Zerliae's own guild at following their orderly hearts.
At an Impass, perhaps it was time to seek out the Holy Overseer again.
At the Crossroads
Added Thu Dec 19 21:47:52 2013 at level 36:
Zerliae grew weary of the world of the Light. Many held their own chaos
in their souls, and could never truly understand the orderly structure
which would create a great world. Even those of his own guild defied the
laws, and their code. Zerliae did, and continues, to break one article
of his code, however. Associated with those of tainted heart, his own
patron was one of tainted heart. As well as the Loremaster and
Archbishop, those placed above Zerliae.
Xacag, an elf of Zerliae's own guild, was perhaps the only trustworthy
one, although the young half-drow knew this trust was going to be broken.
Last he spoke with his Lord, it was revealed Zerliae would have to
forsake his code, if he meant to truly serve the Overseer.
Zerliae felt the time drew near, as those of the light persecuted him for
being a Destuvian. They didn't know, they didn't understand. Zerliae
felt the time was close at hand that he truly turned his heart over to
Destuvius. He was unsure what would happen, perhaps it would taint his
soul with darkness, but it was a sacrifice he would need to make.
Zerliae was even beginning to think better of the Imperials than those of
the fortress. The time was definitely close.
Once again, Zerliae felt he must seek out his Lord, even with his task
unfinished. None of them listened to him. No matter how Zerliae tried
to twist it, none listened. They couldn't see, they couldn't know.
