Description

A humanoid figure lurks about, moving quietly and stealthily about you. It stands at about 6 feet, and atop its head is a messy crown of brown-black hair. It's skin is a strange ivory-tan, and it is hard to tell if its skin was initially as such, or if it has been caked with years of mud and dirt. It is not built for bulk, even though it is well toned. However, it is equally feral as tt glares at you with its savagely orange eyes, and grips a pair of massive clubs.

Role

Birth

Added Sat Apr 2 08:04:16 2011 at level 23:
His first memory was looking into what would be best roleribed as
the 'face' of a Treant. Left abandoned as an infant in the the
dense forest west of Tir-Talath, his life was salvaged when a
group of Treants awoke from their long slumber and found him
crying in their midst. From that point, he was cared for by the
Treefolk, sustained by the fruit of their own bodies, and taught
the ways of the Treants.

Being smarter than most Treants, he learnt Treefolk speech
relatively easily, for even though they are long lived, they have
rarely interacted with the the outside world and do not have a
large vocabulary. However, because of their eternity, their speech
is also slow, mimicking their speed in just about every aspect. A
simple hello would be
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooooooo
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
rrrrrrr.' And most think giants are slow.

The Treants, as beings of Nature, had strong affiliations to the
deities of Nature, and wanted to train him in the ways of
druidism. However, he did not enjoy the rituals and prayers much,
and often wandered off halfway in search what other things that
interested him. The one thing he found extremely exciting was
playing with snakes, because in contrast to the slow Treefolk,
serpents were quick and deft, and he found himself mimicking their
movement and actions subconsciously. He became a good hunter,
having developed patience from living as a Treant, yet being able
to swiftly strike when needed, like a serpent on the hunt. He
learned to use fallen branches of the Treants as tools to aid in
his hunt, becoming proficient at clubbing of all forms, yet
maintaining his speed and agility.

Outside

Added Sat Apr 2 08:39:01 2011 at level 23:
Some years passed, and he grew into adulthood, or what would be
considered adulthood, given his mixed bloodlines. He enjoyed
running the open plains, feeling the soft dirt between his toes,
and could run for hours and days at a stretch going from stream to
stream. Sometimes, he would ventured into the rolling mountains,
and sometimes go near to the nearby cities, but he could feel that
the dirt as he drew closer to the cities would smell different,
feel different, so he kept away from them as much as he could.

One day, he chanced upon the most beautiful creature he had ever
laid his eyes upon, while running north through the rocky
mountains. A golden waterfall of long blonde hair slid down her
back, radiant as the sun. Her skin was smooth and alabaster white,
flawless in its perfection. As he gazed upon a pair of large,
emerald eyes, he saw what he thought was trace of a fiery orange
flame within. She wore a simple black silk dress that ran from
neck to ankle, and it fell easily upon her body, highlighting her
silouette. She sat beside the stream in the Vale, chanting softly
as she carressed the water with loving hands. Hiding in the shrub,
he just watched, captivated, spellbound.

He frequently returned to the stream to watch her, and would watch
for as long as she remained. One day, he decided to emerge from
the bushes, and approached her slowly, cautiously. He knew from
past experiences that the more colourful a plant, the more likely
it is to be poisonous. Such is a hunters trap as well. She looked
up as she felt his presence, and the sounds that came from her
mouth were like angels singing, even though he could understand
none of it. He looked at her with confusion, but continued to
approach, and when he finally was near enough, produced a
slaughtered rabbit and placed it in front of her. She smiled, and
that was the start of his interaction with elves, and his learning
of the common tongue.

Free will

Added Sat Apr 2 17:17:34 2011 at level 23:
He began seeing her very often, and while his Treefolk granted
name was Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnn
nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
ttttiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiooooooooooooooooooooooooooooookkkkkkkk
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugggggggggggggggggg
gggggggggppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, meaning fast one, for
convenience she shortened it to Zontuk. And her name? Illiasaria.

Their connection deepened with time, and a point came when he
wished to take her as his mate. He looked expectantly as she
looked at her feet, face downcast. 'I cannot,' she said. 'Though
my feelings for you are great, my father would never allow it. I
am heir to his bloodline magic, and he would never allow me to be
with anyone outside the magi, much less someone not of elven
descent.'

'Does what want! One life, live! No waste! Regret!' he cried, and
stuck a chord in her heart. Faith renewed, she took him to seek
her father's blessings.

'What?! You want to be married to this... this thing?! He's a
half-breed! You will not dilute our powers by such a union! Our
ancestors have not, and certainly you will not break our
tradition! And to a beast! What are you thinking?!'

'He is not a beast, Father! I never wished to be heir! Let Brother
be heir to your legacy!'

'Magic flows most strongly within you, and you are the chosen one
to keep our blood strong. I will not let you associate with such
filth! Guards, throw this animal out and make sure I never see it
again! Never!'

With that, they dragged him kicking and shouting 'Does what
wants!' from the gates of the palace, and slashed him and left him
for dead.

On the Throes of Death

Added Wed Apr 6 13:51:27 2011 at level 26:
There was no way he could have survived that onslaught. Not on his
own anyway. And as the life faded from his body, and he drifted in
and out of consciousness, he began to see and hear things that he
himself was not sure of. The only vision that was vivid was that
of a single drow, wielding a deadly scimitar and lashing at his
slaves, in a place so dark and vile it would make anyone shudder.
The heat was intolerable, produced by the forges that churned out
this strange, unknown substance that swallowed even the faintest
trace of light. One of the slaves, a dirty but otherwise beautiful
human girl, caught his eye. He heaved her onto his shoulder and
carried her off into his chambers, and the hopeless screams of the
unwilling girl echoed into the distance.

With this, he woke up, gasping for breath, sweating profusely. The
birds that had been resting on him flew away, and the snakes that
had wrapped themselves tightly around his body slithered into the
grass. A strange green glow emanated from the surrounding shrubs,
and he found his wounds all healed without a scratch. He looked
back at the prison that kept his love from him, and vowed to grow
stronger, and burn every rule and tradition to ashes. He felt a
strange power draw him east, over the oceans to an unknown
destination. Following his instinct, he set off in search of this
mystery.

As he left the vale, he heard a whisper on the wind, 'From whence
it began, so it shall end.' Deep into his own thoughts, he
dismissed it as a figment of his imagination.

Doubts

Added Wed Apr 6 13:52:39 2011 at level 26:
On his travels, he came across many creatures that he had never
before seen or heard of. There were strange winged creatures that
flew, but were not birds that he had ever seen. There were massive
humanoid beings, twice as big as a normal human, strong as ten
men. And yet there were these short, stocky being that looked like
little children, with beards. He soon came to learn about these
creatures and what they represent, with their individual
idiosyncracies.

The arials were fast, quick, and agile, but fearful of water and
lightning, and were an inpatient lot. The giants were strong
beings, not very smart, but they knew what what was in their
hearts from birth. Yet the svirfnebli, looking like little
children, but wise as the earth, and sharing great affinity for
it. This insight led to this nagging feeling at the back of his
mind.

'He's a half-breed!' echoed in his thoughts.

Half-breed? He found himself starting to agree with that label. He
was nowhere as smart as the drow, or as light footed, and he was
nowhere as strong or hearty as a human. He fit in nowhere. Where
did he really belong, and what did he really represent? Was he
just another existence, another accidental by-product of Fate's
twisted sense of humour?

What does it mean to be born of a drow and human, raised by Treant
druids, taught by serpents, loved by an elf and taken in by the
Refuge? Doubts start to fill his mind, as he wondered about his
purpose.

Epiphany

Added Wed Apr 6 13:55:48 2011 at level 26:
As he came to a Forest Road, he came upon a strange sight. There
it was, a horse with a coat of hair like the blackest night, with
a single horn atop its forehead. He approached it slowly,
cautiously, not quite certain of what to make of it, for a unicorn
in itself was a rare sight, let alone a black one. As he
approached, the black unicorn turned towards him, its fiery red
eyes piercing through his heart. He felt a strange sensation
overcome him as he felt tired and weak, and he lay down beside a
tree, drifting off into deep slumber.

It seemed as though he was omnscient, and could see everything at
once. Time flashed by before his eyes, and he saw when the world
was born, and a time all was pristine and untainted by the burden
of cities and castles. He saw he birth of the first sentient races
of the world, and then the emergence of the elves, drow and like,
until the time of Man came, and they became the most populous race
in the world. Sprawling cities rose from towns and villages, and
mines and forges were built, leaking poisons into the soil, and
fumes into the air. Outside, the grass was grey rather than green,
and birds fell to the ground, suffocated by the smog. The earth
moaned for mercy.

Off in the distance, a huge battle raged. Inside the castle was a
shadowy cat, a strange gnome that had a dragon head and a coat of
quills and a drow whose body bent in impossible ways. Outside
stood a pregnant sunflower, a great blue bear and a black dragon
that spouted the seven elements. Suddenly, the great blue bear
rose from the ground, and ascended towards the skies, leaving
behind a crescent axe at the hollow of a great Tree. From nowhere,
an ebony brown serpent emerged, curling its body around the legacy
that remained. The axe began to glow and change shape, eventually
taking the shape of a hammer.

He woke from his dream, feeling fully refreshed, not just in body,
but in spirit as well. He realised why he had been born a
half-breed, why his life had been saved not once but twice by the
great spirits, why an elf loved him but was taken from him, and
why the dirt of cities irked him so. He was a meld of two of the
most destructive races in the world. Drow, whose forges solder
adamantite and whose elite enslave, torture and murder for comedy,
as well as humans, whose cities burden the earth, and whose
numbers swell beyond vital capacity.

Where it began with the drow and later the humans, so it must be
one of their own who put a stop to the vice. That is not just the
purpose of his mixed heritage, but also the meaning of his
destiny.

From whence it began, so it shall end.

Hiatus

Added Tue Jun 28 10:30:58 2011 at level 36:
In order to prepare himself for his eventual
role as leader, Zontuk took a lengthy hiatus
from the frontline. During this time, he
learned the beast calls, so that he may
communicate effectively to all of the refuge,
letting his knowledge of the common tongue
slip even further. Also, he realised that the
role of leader would require him to be strong
as well, and slowly but surely he honed his
art, gaining strength not just about
fighting, but about all of Nature.
