Description
In what a herpetologist would call a hyper xanthic appearance, this saurian
standing at about six feet five inches - short for her kind, although still
towering amongst the more humanoid races - has a vibrant yellow base colour
to her scales, mottled throughout with dark banding and spots of deep sable.
Lacking any markings on her head or tail, their sunlight hued sheen grant
the saurian a slightly whimsical appearance, as she stares out from light
pink eyes that shut with blue-coloured lids on the rare occasion she
requires blinking. Claws filed short due to the somatic requirements of her
profession, such care for appearance extends to her maw, which menaces with
myriad spikes that must have been painstakingly sharpened so - fare more
than a usual saurian's - to make up for the loss of lethality in her hands.
When smiling, her mouth seems to be nothing more than a razor-trap one would
imagine a hunter using to catch bears.
Role
Dream of a New Cycle

One night, Zoraikla spoke to the void and it spoke back.
She was never like the other children. She was yellow and black, and that was
just awful for camouflage. Already a minority due to being aligned with Weh in
the small saurian village, she spent most of her time alone in the swamp,
where her parents privately hoped she would unite with Weh through being eaten
by a crocodile or something.
Truly a hatchling with colors that vibrant would find it at the hand of one
predator or another. What an eyesore.
Unfortunately, what Zoraikla met was different. It is said that when children
stumble lost in the darkness of night, and disappear, they have crossed into
the Shadow Plane. For her, not quite. But she did meet someone of the Shadow -
a dark Felar cast out from Blackclaw Village the same way she felt outcasted
from the saurian people. Brightly calico, the vivid hues of his fur made
mockery of the wickedness inside. Against all odds, they struck a friendship,
and he - being a novice mage - began to teach Zoraikla his spells as well, the
mastery of the elements that the saurians as a whole feared as blasphemy
against nature - to command them instead of live in harmony with them.
She returned to the village and attempted to perform cantrips as parlour
tricks, to show the former tribesmen what she could now do, and instead of
being praised for her progress she was treated with even more fear and disgust
than usual - saurian were not meant to be mages, to take on the civilized ways
of the outsiders. In this method their xenophobia further alienated her.
Those attuned to Sra followed her as she made her way to another midnight
communion with the felar, and upon witnessing his evil, and his 'corruption of
their youth,' they slew him in ambush before berating Zoraikla and taking her
back 'home'.
In the days before that felar's soul faded, he was both sra and weh, and
Zoraikla's dreams were of a blasted wasteland, a chasm deep in the desert, and
a prophecy that the cycle of Thera's existance was meant to be washed away by
the elements. That she had a place there, not here.
She seeks the Chasm of the Scions of Eternal Night, and in her heretical
imaginings, believes the Prophecy to be the next natural step for Thera, and
thus believes herself to soon function in Rarywey's religion as well. Only
time and interaction would tell whether she would be cast aside in that matter
as a psychotic heretic or if the Prophecy was compatible with the Drowned's
beliefs.
Growth
Added Wed May 4 14:38:16 2022 at level 15:
Taking her studies slowly, for magic did not come naturally to the saurian,
Zoraikla was amazed by how little help she could expect to receive from
anyone, barring a few shapeshifters that let her follow in their wake as they
gained in rank. Those of her same rank and title tried to slay her when she
openly asked for aid or gave her assistance, even an exceptionally rude storm
paladin that she gave a brinestar - supposedly a storm giant's favorite fruit,
and one of her own favorites- tried to kill her when she showed up in Arkham
at his request.
Vaxael, an assassin, said they'd 'leave her alone' when he was told about how
the entirety of adventurers were Lightwalkers or in other ways against them,
and then tried to trip Zoraikla to death, what a wretch! It was good he killed
himself permanently after Zoraikla took his life for his impertinence. Only an
idiot betrays one of the only allies they could possibly have, after all.
In this formative time, Zoraikla is keeping good track of who aids her and who
does not. A reckoning will come, eventually, once she's finally mastered all
of these petty cantrips. The Tribunal, surprisingly, has been a source of more
aid than most, and she is toying with the idea of actually respecting their
idiotic laws just out of common courtesy, until some Lightwalking fool
invariably violates her tentative trust in that edifice of civilization.
High Priestliness is something trained.

Ecstatic to have been recognized for her faithful overtures towards Rarywey
Cirrene, Zoraikla does not mind the silence from the Chasm as she continues to
practice her spellwork.
The Tribunal continues to be nothing but an aid, while the Empire is full of
violent fanatics that seek, unsuccessfully, her head.
The Fortress is far more successful at that thanks to their Captain's
ever-watchful eyes in the sky. The thought has come to Zoraikla that she will
never be safe until she can stop running and start killing - to be a threat
too difficult to face. Sra-born kin of hers swarm her regularly, but oddly do
not seem to have much vehemence in it - she has a strange sort of friendship
with Zurehn despite the repetitive deaths she's endured at that warrior's
maces, they tend to spend quite a bit of time speaking afterwards.
She curries favor with Tamazin, the new archlich of the Spire, out of fear of
his power and gratitude for the mage's gifts Tamazin has given her.
Zoraikla attempts, as per her instruction, to keep her adventures in mind that
she may tell Rarywey grand stories when she returns to Her shrine regularly.
She sort of hates that she likes Tilea so much, because even by Tilea's own
admission she loves 'everyone'. Zoraikla isn't special. But it's nice to feel
at least slightly special to someone, and Tilea does that for her, considering
most of the world hates her - either for being a saurian and thus not orderly
or for being of the path of weh.
What *is* Shadow, anyway?
Added Thu May 19 11:17:24 2022 at level 40:
"I am here for you, not supremacy."
When Rarywey told Zoraikla that it made her Feel Things. A certain upheaval of
the relationship she thought she would be having with a Goddess.
Despite not being a mage, Rarywey's presence even as a sounding board has
helped Zoraikla in her understanding of magic and the planes immensely, even
placing the three quasi-elements she was uncertain of their true nature.
Zoraikla intends to write a book about invocation to build on the more simpler
introduction to theory that is in the Lyceum, and include her hypotheses about
the Shadow Plane and the nature of reality therein.
She also adores Rarywey more and more each time they interact, moving from
obsequious fawning to a more earnest and honest happiness around Her.
The feeling of being liked, or loved, as Rarywey continually shows to her,
softens her rage against her people and replaces it with a desire to inspire
it in others. Perhaps when she becomes Chancellor of the Chasm she can play at
being a mini-Rarywey to Scion applicants and root out the pointless murderers
from those who are actually interesting. Only those worthy to advance the
Moon's supremacy over Thera should take part in the Prophecy, after all.
Although Zoraikla still intends to kill Danssha once they're both heroes. It's
only fair, after all.
Scars
Added Sat May 28 04:31:28 2022 at level 51:
Morius had wished agonies on Zoraikla, and she was certainly getting a lot of
them.
The physical ones were easy. Danssha had taken most of her apparel in
vengeance for when Zoraikla'd successfully killed her. That was expected and
foreseen - Zoraikla was just happy to have made the shapeshifter suffer, even
if briefly, just like she'd promised Danssha as a pledge for the other
saurian's treachery.
The emotional ones harder.
After a skirmish with Rinn where Tilea had died, Zoraikla made a comment about
how Tilea had been certain her conjured archon would be able to save her from
Rinn, and Tilea went off about it. Tempers flared and it ended up with
vicious, horrible words from both parties.
Tilea was far better at tearing people apart with words than Zoraikla was.
Thoroughly convinced she has lost her only friend, Zoraikla went to her home
village. She destroyed. Screaming saurians were unable to stop her elemental
mastery.
She caught the trio of elders who had ordered her childhood companion slain.
She showed them what it meant to command nature instead of live in harmony
with it.
She held them in water until they drowned, shocked them back to coughing,
dreadful life with lightning, battered them until their scales tore off with
gales of wind, held them under burning, boiling swamp that then froze solid -
chipped away at the blocks and dissolved their corpses in acid until there was
nothing but gleaming, white bones, and left them as an example to the
horrified kin.
And she still felt empty.
Tilea convinced her that her goddess loved the half-elf more than the saurian
because Rarywey could clearly see how wretched Zoraikla was. That Rarywey
would call Tilea to Her to talk about *Herself*, Her own private doubts and
fears.
Zoraikla was hideously jealous. These saurian, her childhood antagonists, they
didn't matter anymore. She was so far above them as a hero of an invoker, a
master of her guild, a Scion of the Eternal Night, that they were
just...insignificant.
What she thought would be cathartic was just...
empty.
Was this the sort of soul she required to be a true Scion, as Morius had
wished?
Criminality
Added Wed Jun 8 18:34:41 2022 at level 51:
Continuing to have the emotional maturity of a toddler, Zoraikla found herself
enthralled by Arleshi's cheerful attitude and friendliness towards her.
Offering her a valuable orb in return for her friendship, the saurian's heart
metaphorically melted when they reacted with confusion and thought they
already were friends.
Unfortunately shortly afterwards, in an ill-advised plot to draw Grivs out to
strike her in Galadon, Zoraikla also broke the law and was warranted. In a
fitful rage, she attacked the Spire in revenge for Mezai flagging her - and
when she lost her armaments thanks to the Empire coming and intervening, she
persisted until she slew the Executioner, but did not find her things in the
pit.
Bahrynor and Mezai held them on purpose. Just to spite her, she was certain.
So she pens a missive full of lies towards the high magistrates in desperation
to retrieve her own things.
She is terrified of both Arleshi and Tamazin's reactions, but she believes
it's far too late for her to turn back now. It was always too late for her to
turn back in regards to everything, no matter what anyone said.
After all, she was a Scion, bitter and lonely and with no ability to keep
friends because of the evil and chaos that consumed her heart and left her a
raging demon at the worst of times.
Perhaps some day she would learn some kind of self control but it did not seem
to be this day.
Additionally, she seeks to understand the task set on her to learn what
'water' is. After a talk with Tsiynil over it in which she barely controlled
herself from killing the water nymph - only considering their relative
strengths stopped her from attempting - she feels she has a greater
understanding of water, the river of souls, and her place in the world.
But philosophy isn't great at stopping her from screwing everything up for
herself through her endless fits of wrath and desire to slaughter whatever's
making her feel bad.
Iconoclasm
Added Tue Jun 14 21:35:19 2022 at level 51:
Tides.
High and low, ebb and flow.
Curled up in a pit in the weald thinking about how insane she was for what
she'd given up, what she'd done.
From the triumph of slaying Grivs to the black pit of suicidal despair over
perceived failure towards her goddess, Zoraikla was so terrified of losing
Rarywey's love depsite her constant affirmations of 'forever and always' that
she renounced the Scions in essentially an instant after being given the
directive to 'give up everything' for Rarywey.
This is probably an excessively bad move for the saurian's health, and one
that Morius will either be extremely wrathful about or extremely impressed
with.
When's the last time any of His did something like that for Him, after all?
Zoraikla supposed that if He challenged her, she'd argue that Morius hadn't
fulfilled what He promised.
Tilea wasn't slain by Him, as far as Zoraikla knew. Maybe by arguing such a
thing to Morius she could be reinstated.
The power of the Chasm was immense and losing it grieved Zoraikla, especially
since her constitution was so low that she adored having the Sceptre
fortifying her deaths as a leader, but she knew she would rather be weak
without the chasm than strong there and without Rarywey. To not have both be
possible...this was the next best thing. She wasn't certain if Rarywey would
be angry if Zoraikla sought re-entrance from Morius. She's afraid to try. She
had highly underestimated Her reaction to Zoraikla 'peacefully' breaking
through the Inn for gambling's sake. She'd proven that she'd choose Rarywey
over the Chasm. Would trying to rejoin somehow break what she demonstrated?
She wasn't sure, and that scared her most of all. No other cabals would take
her. She'd try to join the Heralds, but Rarywey said no.
Being hurt emotionally, or feeling like she said the wrong thing and was going
to be abandoned, felt far too much like what had happened with Tilea to not
send the saurian into a self-destructive spiral of iconoclasm and shedding of
anything she could possibly do to not lose her only relationship, because
Rarywey had ALWAYS been there for Zoraikla, from the first day they met when
she declared herself to this one.
Having literally written the book on shadow magic, or at least shadow as an
element of its own, Zoraikla can still cast the blackfire nova, for now.
Wood-And-Bones has done a good job of cheering her, at the least. Zoraikla is
afraid of what the future holds but feels for once she might be able to handle
it.
Maybe for once she can experience the feeling of high tide and replete waves
instead of feeling like a failure.
