Description
A dirty human stands here, his musky aroma filling your nostrils
even at a distance. His hair is greasy and dirty, as if he has
either not bathed in a long time, or has recently gotten very
dirty.
His skin is similarly filthy, though a discerning eye might take
note that the filth forms a pattern that much resembles foliage that
might be found in a light forest.
His eyes are hooded but otherwise nondescript, a dark brown that could
pass for black. The rest of his face seems to have lines that indicate
a tendency toward a grim expression.
Muscular for a human, he seems to be at home with a weapon in hand.
Role
Sins of the Father
Added Mon Mar 1 23:49:18 2010 at level 4:
Zoslaun was almost of age to join the Academy. He was primed and
ready to join the guild of the Paladins. His father had prepared
Zoslaun for many years, and had recently told him that he believed
he would be ready for the first steps very soon.
"I've been given the honor of a very important mission for the Guild,
my boy. Once I return from that, we'll register your name on the roll-
list for service to the Lords of the Light."
Months went by with no word from the father. His mother and sister began
to show signs of worry. Zoslaun put forth an air of confidence, though
doubts began to form in his mind as well. No matter that he was the youngest
of the three - he was the male, and the one who would be a Knight soon.
His false confidence did not save him, nor the women, for what was to come.

Men came in the night and took the three of them. To this day, Zoslaun does
not know where he was taken. When he came to, he was bound and gagged, with
a mask over his head and a bag over his body. He was in a relatively bare room,
and his mother and sister were there, too. Each was naked, with the only covering
a mask similar to his. By the muffled cries, Zoslaun could tell that they, too,
were gagged. They were tied to two beds, clearly awaiting some form of torture.
The lone door to the room opened not long after Zoslaun regained consciousness. A man
he did not know walked in, dressed in the accoutrements of the Imperial Guard. A cold
sweat dampened Zoslaun's forehead. The Empire. He, his mother, and his sister were
already dead, he now knew, but what torment would they face prior to death?
The man was followed by a man in the robes that marked him as one scheduled to take
the Blood Oath, the first step on the path to Citizenship within the Empire. Zoslaun had
been quizzed repeatedly by his father so as to be able to recognize the hated garb.
The cowl of the robes kept the man's face hidden, but there was something familiar
about his gait...Zoslaun couldn't quite place it. He tried to think, but the first
man was speaking.
"...can see, you are about to be honored, before the ceremony for the Blood Oath begins.
We captured these non-Citizen women recently and will be putting them to good use in the
slave pens for the upper eschelons of the Sect. You, my lucky friend, get to sample their...
pleasures. The one that pleases you best will be given to the slavemaster. The one who does
not will be killed. Begin."

The soon-to-be-Oath was clearly hesitant, and was distracted by the franting thrashing of Zoslaun,
until the Imperial casually backhanded the young man, dazing him.
"Who is that, then?" asked the cowled figure.
"One who is to be shown the glories of the Empire. None of your concern. Be about your business, or
I'll assume you are unfit to do so, and thereby unfit to join the Empire."
With that, the Imperial unceremoniously yanked the robes from the cowled figure, revealing
none other than Zoslaun's father. Zoslaun tried to shake off the cobwebs, to somehow signal
his father, but the Imperial was having none of it, roughly shoving the elder man toward
the women.
For their part, blindfolded as they were, the women knew only that they were about to be raped,
and one of them killed, while the other would become a slave. The gags allowed them barely a whimper,
however, as the husband/father began his dark deeds.
When he had finished, at length, with the two women, the Imperial clapped and grinned broadly.
"Well done indeed, good Knight. You truly could be one of us, I think. If you weren't a pitiful
failure of an attempt to infiltrate the Empire by the Paladin guild! Sieze him!"
Three large men entered the room and easily subdued the paladin who, with his pants still around
his ankles, was unable to put up much of a fight. Standing there, flaccid manhood drooping, he
did his best to be defiant.
"You may have discovered and shamed me, but your so-called Empire will never win!" he cried.
His defiance crumbled to despair as the masks were removed from the women. The knowledge that he
had not only raped two innocent women, but his own wife and daughter, came crashing down, and he
began to let out a low droning wail of woe.
Sins of the Father IV
Added Tue Mar 2 14:16:40 2010 at level 7:
His father had been betrayed. Not by the Empire - their treachery was quite forthright, with
a clear statement of malice and wickedness. No, the true betrayers in this little
drama were those of the guild of Paladins who had sent his father on a mission of subterfuge,
attempting to infiltrate that which would corrupt so quickly, so easily.
Everything he had been taught while growing up seemed to lose luster, fade, and left
a bitter bilious flavor in his mouth. His pulse throbbed in his temple, threatening to
explode out of his skull. His rage grew, boiling, bubbling, like molten lava deep
within Kiadana, as he strained silently against his bonds. Anger at the Empire, at the
Paladins, at his father, at himself...even at the Gods for letting this happen. Something
snapped within him, and he let out a bestial roar as his bonds finally gave way.
Ripping off the mask and robe, he crushed the nose of one of the men holding his father before the
man could even blink. Partially freed, his father began to fight as well, though Zoslaun barely
noticed. He was like a thing empowered for vengeance, for bloodlust, and for death. The second guard
reacted better, but was forced to duck for cover as the youth flailed wildly.
While the elder man faced the third guard, the Imperial had slunk over next to the women, still bound.
"Cease, or the women die!" he called out. He grinned smugly as Zoslaun's father stopped struggling.
He'd made a critical error, though. He assumed he was dealing with two rational human beings.
Zoslaun lept on him, crushing down upon the Imperial's shoulders heavily. The motion caused the
daggers that had been held to the throats of the two women to slice downward, severing the throats
of the females, and blood began to spurt generously.
His father cried "No!" but Zoslaun did not stop. Grabbing the daggers, he plunged them repeatedly
into the Imperial, howling with glee and bloodlust. When he turned, the guards had withdrawn in fright,
and he was alone with his father.
Shuffling toward his son in almost comic fashion, pants still around his ankles, the elder was weeping.
"My son," he said tearfully, "I am so sorry for whatGLURK!" Whatever else he'd been planning to say was
cut off by a dagger in his windpipe.
Licking the blood from the blade, Zoslaun nodded. "You are indeed sorry, father. I've never known a more
sorry individual."
Letting another howl of rage out, the boy-man-thing raced into the night, leaving the camp behind, stumbling
around in the dark, until he finally collapsed in a deep forest, completely turned around and hopelessly lost.
Character Synopsis
Added Tue Mar 2 14:47:32 2010 at level 8:
Events told in earlier role entries have left him mentally scarred, beyond all repair.
He's become nihilistic, and seeks only to sate his own anger and bloodlust. He doesn't
really care who he hurts to achieve this, and has no "higher goal." He has especial hatred
for the Empire and for Paladins.
He hopes to join the Outlanders, as he has heard that they share some of his hatreds, and that
they are unlikely to attempt to "reign in" his homicidal tendencies.
He is a loner, but not against traveling with others, should it help him in some way.
His speech patterns are likely to vary from curt and abrupt to eloquent, further evidence of
his unstable nature. At times he thinks of himself as a beast, at times a human, but never
anything approaching civilized.
How could this really happen?
Added Sat Mar 20 10:57:27 2010 at level 36:
Casual observers might wonder how a paladin ends up raping women. How
he didn't turn on the Imperial and tell him that by his God and the Light,
he would smite him, and he would be smote. Smitten? Smited? Smoot?
Regardless, the question has a simple answer. Zoslaun's father was not a very
good paladin. He had dreams of glory in his head, not of selflessness. He envisioned
himself as feeding Imperial information to the Guild and, when the time was right,
standing right beside the Emperor and striking him down from behind.
A true paladin would have refused the assignment in the first place. A true
paladin wouldn't have interpreted the assignment: "Try to learn what you can
about the activities of the Imperials" as "Do evil deeds to infiltrate them."
Buying a mug of ale for a bard who had been seen traveling with Imperials
would be the shadiest information-gathering tactic that a TRUE paladin would
use.
Everyone knows this, except for Zoslaun. Zoslaun, who was brought up to become
a paladin by his father. Zoslaun, who viewed his father as the epitome of what
a paladin should be.
And so, we now have a killer who wishes to burn the paladin guild for actions
that true paladins would never commit. Perspective is a funny thing.
Embracing the Ancients
Added Sat Apr 10 19:40:36 2010 at level 41:
Zoslaun has been one of the Outlanders for most of his life, now.
He was recently extended an offer by one of the Scionites, to join
the Chasm, as his talents had, it seems, become apparent to the Scion.
Zoslaun considered the offer for a moment. Why not, he thought. It isn't
As if the Scions are any of his true hates, the Imperials and the Paladin guild...
And yet, something gnawed at him. Something that bothered him each time he
saw a conjurer. Or a dwarf. Or a Spireling. Or...well, or a Scion.
After politely declining the offer with a counter offer that involved the
Scion's entrails as a tasty dish, Zoslaun thought some more about this...gnawing.
This...anger.
He finally understood. He truly had embraced the anger of the Ancients, and
melded with it, making it his own.
He smiled at the notion, as his spike-toed boots ripped the abdomen of
some hapless conjurer wide open. Yes, it felt...right. It felt *good*.
