Situation Report: Citizen #371667 received the promotion to Shadow Lord from
one of the Immortals of the Empire.  The Empress, may she live forever, wrote
a missive to them asking for their aide in the promotion.  He was promoted
during the month of Ancient Darkness.  He was promoted after killing a
barbarian and retrieving the codex back from them.

Findings:  Citizen #371667 donated over one million copper to the Imperial
Coffers before his promotion.  He is in great standing as a citizen.  He is
moments from obtained all the lessons possible for his craft from the
Imperial Asssassin guild.  He has assassinated over thirty of the Empires
enemies, and beaten countless more in combat.

Notes:  Citizen #371667 said he has visited the shrine of the Great Ebony
Warlock on numerous occasions but has yet to turn his eye.  He wished for the
record to show that he is still committed to gaining the approval of our
Great Lord Zulghinlour. He was promoted in the month of darkness, another
good omen in a long line of omens for this extraordinary man.  It should also
be noted that he is seeking a wife from among the masses, though his eye
currently falls on Xanvia of the Blades.  He has made it clear she needs to
be more experienced and of higher standing within the Empire before he
continues talks too much further.

THE IMPERIAL CHRONICLE

"An Empress and her Shadows" by Zridv Zerislov as told to Wesly Hedly.

It was a dark and stormy night outside the Fortress.  All the lamps were lit
to try and bring what was hidden into the light.  It wasnt enough to keep
the Imperial Shadows from stalking their prey however.  The Empress, Eoria,
and two of her shadows had come calling at the MaranTarabal.  The Cardinal
of the Fortress, Soayel was within its walls, granting the fervent, and
futile prayers of his "god" on their Watcher.  The Empress Eoria and myself
had tried once or twice to kill Nolyek and Soayel as they cowered behind the
Watcher.  They thought themselves safe behind his sweeping sword.  They did
throw us back once or twice, it is true, but we would have none of it.  The
other shadow, Arkuss, and I decided we would go a different route, should the
Empress deem it a good one.  She agreed and so Arkuss and I set to stalking
Nolyek, our prey for the moment.  The plan was a simple one, to have the
mighty Empress sing to the warrior and have his mind make him flee.  The
Empress, may she live forever, tried it a few times but he continued to flee
in the wrong directions.  The warrior, being a foolish warrior, as all
warriors of the Fortress are, decided he would attempt to finish the Empress
off outside of the protection of the Watcher.  He was wrong and was quickly
thrown back to the waiting prayers of the Chick... I mean Cardinal, Soayel.  It
was during this time that I continued my work within the shadows, learning
the every move of Nolyek.
Finally, after a few hours of patiently learning my prey, I was ready.  The
Empress again went forth against the three enemies of the Fortress, and
attempted to turn their fears against them.  Though unsuccessful in this it
would seem Nolyek believed he had an upper hand.  He did not know the other
elite shadow, Chirikaw, had arrived.  Unfortunately, the lead sack Chirikaw
had proved a bit slow, and so he remained conscious.  He then confronted our
Empress, may she live forever, in my sight.  It was quickly found that his
might was not enough and so he fled.  As he stepped back within the "Grand
Temple" as they call it, he did not see me step from the shadows.  My sword
entered into his back and found its way straight to his beating heart.
Needless to say his body crumpled before us.  Once this perfect killing was
completed, we finished the Watcher whilst the Cardinal futily tried to
protect himself and it. We were victorious, and our Empress Orb was secured
within her Throne, May She Live Forever!  The "Cardinal" never came to
attempt getting his precious orb back.

What I hope all of you citizens understand is that you might not see us chosen few,
but we are watching and waiting to protect YOU! Glory to the Empire!

Zridv Zerislov

As you walk along the streets of Hamsah MuTazz you notice flyers up on the
doors of many guilds.  In the middle of the poster stands a dark figure
with one hand on the hilt of his sword, and the other on an upraised glass.
On the index finger of the one hand a peculiar ring with the mark of the
emperor stands out.  He appears to be toasting to something.  The artist took
painstaking time to shade around the figure to make it hard to tell where
shadow stops and figure begins. The man is dressed in fine gear and appears
to enjoy what he is toasting to.  At the bottom of the poster these words
have been printed in large type.  "Zridv Zerislov, the Shadows Kiss, serves
the Empress, isn't it time you did to?"  Below that in smaller font is the
statement "I serve the Empress, may she live forever, your wildest dreams and
riches await you!  Serve with me, or we might just have to meet somewhere
when you least expect it."

As the stories and legends of Zridv Zerislov grew, things could be heard in
taverns all across thera.  From the serving maid in the Owl and Thistle
proclaiming she used to know him, to the wenches in Voralian city who say the
"know" him.  His name was beginning to be uttered on the tongues of friend
and foe alike.

The scene in your mind shifts to a quaint elven home, on the outskirts of
Darsylon, sometime in the future.  A young elven boy is lying on his bed,
with his mother sitting beside him, reading to him from a book.The boy is
beginning to drift off a bit as his mother finishes the story of Niheriva and
the Dragon.  His father comes into the room, as his mother kisses his
forehead and wishes him a good night.  The boy looks to his father and asks
him to tell him a story...a scary story.  The aging father agrees and picks up
his newly refinished harp.  He begins to tell the story in High Elven Chant.
The story he says is called "The Shadows Kiss." The man begins to regale the
tale of his meeting with the shadow.  As the boy lies there a wondrous story
unfolds in his mind.  He sees the object of the story walking about in the
Fortress of the Light.  Singing to himself and writing songs about the
glories of the light, and the vanquishing of the dark.  As the man walks
along a dark figure comes into view, just outside of sight.  A glint in the
shadows hear, a rustling like the wind there.  The man walks about, but he
cant see the impending danger. He cant see the man stalking his every
move, learning his every motion.  Being sure of himself the man takes up his
harp, and decides to head out into the world to help it.  As he steps out the
gate, a man greets him and tells him to walk in the light.  He takes another
step, and as he does a sword appears as if from nowhere.  It pierces his
belly from navel to neck and his guts spill out all over.  As the man falls
the shadow turns his blade over and jams it through his back, snuffing the
life out of the man like a candle.

The young elven boy cringes and cries out in terror from his bed.  His father
wraps his arms around him and whispers to him "Its ok, it happened to me,
but I just want you to know you are safe here.  The Shadow cant kiss you
here, this is safe place, a haven for our people."  The boy calms a bit and
closes his eyes.  The father leaves his son and blows out the lamp.  The boy,
trying to rest, cant seem to close his eyes.  "What was that," he thinks, as
he looks around the room.  "There, was that a glint?" "Was that just the wind
in the trees outside!"  He cries out in terror again, and his parents come
rushing.  His father holds him while his mother demands to know what
happened.  She cuffs his father upside the head when he tells her.  She then
takes the boy and cradles him in her arms.  "Its safe, its ok" she tells
him.  "You can come sleep with me tonight, Im sure your father will be fine
right here." So the scene ends, with the old elven bard trying to get
comfortable on his son's small bed. The man curses Zridv Zerislov, for
even now he still brings him pain.

THE IMPERIAL CHRONICLE

"Professional Killer and Model Citizen?" by Wesly Hedly

Ive received numerous requests since writing my first article about Zridv
Zerislov to do another. After looking into the possibility of finding him,
Ive secured an exclusive one on one interview with the fabled Elite Shadow.
I was able to catch up with him in the famous Assassins Guild in Imperial
City.  What follows is a brief snippet of that interview.  The rest will come
in book form when it is complete.

IC:  Mr. Zerislov, how are you doing today?

ZZ:  Im good Wesly, and you can call me Zridv, no need to be formal right
now.

IC: Ok, Zridv, how long have you been a citizen?

ZZ:  Well, Wesly, I was born into an Imperial family about thirty-one years
ago.  I formally took the oath from the Empress herself, May She Live
Forever, about seven years ago when I was only twenty-four.

IC: Fascinating, she deemed you worthy to speak with her.

ZZ: I can be very persuasive, and I showed her the respect, May She Live
Forever, she is due.

IC:  What can you tell us about your family?

ZZ:  That is a place we wont be going.

IC:  I see, sorry to touch on that, how about your sect?

ZZ:  Well, the sect is very secretive, as you can imagine, but lets just say
we are keeping tabs on those who need to be looked into.  We are the eyes and
ears of the Empire, working tirelessly to protect our people in secrecy.

IC:  Would you mind telling us how many foes of the Empire you have
dispatched.

ZZ:  It is becoming hard to count Wesly, there are many who oppose us, Let us
just say though that three have died without knowing to scream first.

IC:  Brutal, how did it happen?

ZZ:  Well, two have died from slit throats, and the other left his guts along
the eastern road.

IC:  Ick...that is a bit graphic.Some would say your tactics and methods are
too gruesome and that we could talk instead of killing.What would you say
to them?

ZZ:  Ill be seeing you.

Thats right folks, there you have it.  He is out there, you might not see
him, but he sees you, and your enemies!Support your Empire, donate and keep

Situation Report: Citizen #371667 made contact with the Empress, May She Live
Forever, on this Day of the Bull, 15th of the Month of the Battle.  He
reported that he had donated enough and grown to "be her elite."  The
Empress, May She Live Forever, was pleased to hear of his progress.  Citizen
#371667 then reported to her that he had obtained the "strange bracers" she
had coveted when younger.  He offered them to her as he had assassinated
their previous owner, Donnagal of the Fortress.She accepted and promoted
him to Elite.  Citizen #371667 then spoke of his desires for the sect, and
his thoughts on its lack of leadership.She was quoted as saying to her War
Master "I think we have found our new Shadow Lord," while in the presence of
citizen #371667.

Findings:  Citizen #371667 donated over six hundred gold to the Imperial
Coffers before his promotion.  He is in good standing as a citizen.  He has
fought many battles and is becoming an outstanding fighter, using his tactics
as an Assassin to dispatch his foes.  It should be noted that he has
successfully assassinated two enemies, and then offered them the oath.

THE IMPERIAL CHRONICLE

"Death from a Shadow?" by reporter Welsy Hedly

Your breath catches in the cold as you make your way down the road.  "Did you
see something in the shadows?" the bard says to his groupmate.  "Nah, aint
nothin" the short Barbarian says to his Arial companion.  Its a cold day on
this Day of Freedom, 18th of the Month of Winter.  The cold and snow is
making the walking slow even along these great roads.  The pair is leaving
Galadon to the north, after committing a heinous crime against one of the
local citizens there.  What else can we expect from those we call
"barbarians?"  They would not both get away with it however, for in the
shadows lurks a committed killer.  He has been stalking his prey for awhile
now, watching their every move. The Arial bard gets spooked and runs away to
another part of the land, leaving the diminutive axe wielder alone.  Out from
his shadow steps Zridv, model citizen of the Empire, and puts his dagger
cleanly along the throat of his foe.  Blood cascades down his front as
Yevandr topples to the ground, one hand raised gurgling his useless cry for
help.  So take heart Citizens of the Glorious Empire!  There are those
waiting to restore order to this unruly land, those who will strike the very
heart of the uncivilized!  Zridv Zerislov is an example for us all!  Take up
your hammer, take up your scythe, the work is not done, and our defenders
work tirelessly for us!

Date: Day of the Sun, 27th of the Month of the Dark Shades
Attackers: Kilthig and Ecktheow
Defenders: Citizen #371667 - Zridv Zerislov (Crisnis)

Situation Report:  Kilthig and Ecktheow, dwarves of the fortress, had been
fighting off and on with Zridv around Hamsah.  He lured Kilthig to Balator
for Citizen Chirikaw to blackjack.  The result of that battle did not go as
planned when Chirikaw missed his second blackjack.  Citizen Zridv went to the
palace to heal from his axe wounds.  The dwarves decided to press attack and
fought the Vanquisher.  When Citizen Zridv was healed he went down and threw
dust into the eyes of Ecktheow.He then was face to face with Kilthig.The
dwarf quickly put axes to the side of Zridv, who was able to break the wrist
of the dwarf.  Kilthig then fled when he noticed he was no longer under the
duration of the flight spell.  As he went to grab a potion, he attempted to
bash Citizen Zridv.  It was at this point that Citizen Zridv broke his elbow
and threw him to the ground.  The dwarf died from his dagger wounds on the
Imperial Road.

Notes:  Citizen #371667 later hunted down Ecktheow but he was able to use
magical device to get away.  Citizen #371667 said the omen of defeating the
dwarves on the day of the sun, in the month of Dark Shades was well received.

Forever, on this Day of Deception, 9th of the Month of the Dark Shades.He
reported to her that his donations had doubled since his citizenship was
given.  The Empress, May She Live Forever, saw fit to check on his status and
promote him to "Imperial Shadow," under the stipulation that he gives her
fifty gold. Citizen #371667 has been seen praying at the Shrine to the Dark
Lords on occasion.  He continues to proffer his faith in the Ebony Warlock.

Findings:  Citizen #371667 donated over two hundred gold to the Imperial
Coffers before his promotion.  He is in good standing as a citizen, though
needs further achievement in his guild for promotion.  He has fought a good
number of battles, some even, some uneven.  Many close and many outright
Victories.  He continues to grow and learn and shows more promise than any
other young shadow.

Notes:  Citizen #371667 said he took it as another good omen that he was made
an Imperial Shadow in the month of dark shades. We have also noted this and
believe the Omens speak true.  The Dark Lords seem to approve.  It should be
noted that citizen #371667 has distanced himself from his mother, and only
occasionally sends a note to her.  He has also shown no interest in checking
the Centurion logs for any activity around the time of his birth.  We are
unsure what to make of this.

Situation Report: Citizen #371667 made contact with the Empress, May She Live
Forever, on this Day of the Great Gods, 19th of the Month of the Long
Shadows.  He reported to her that his donations had doubled since his
oathing.  The Empress, May She Live Forever, saw fit to check on his status
and promote him to "Shadow Dweller."  Upon promotion he made his way to his
sect hall and studied the sect laws.  He did suffer a defeat at the hands of
the Anathema Takaya.  He did some things right surely, but was vanquished in
the end.  Citizen #371667 did in fact state that he had learned a few things
in the fight and would surely not fall the same again.

Findings:  Citizen #371667 donated over fifty gold to the Imperial Coffers
before his promotion.  He is in good standing as a citizen, though needs more
donations and achievement for further promotion.  He was bested in combat by
an Anathema, but vowed to avenge himself and learn from the mistakes.   He
was seen to have studied the laws of his sect and the powers of the shadows
themselves.

Dweller of Shadows within the Month of the Long Shadows.  We have also noted
this and believe the Omens speak true.

Situation Report:  Citizen #371667 made contact with the Empress, May She
Live Forever, on this day Day of Deception, 16th of the Month of the Heat.
He was then allowed to spill his blood to bind himself to the Empire.  After
receiving the Bloodoath Citizen #371667 took his savings from the bank in
Hamsah Mutazz and donated it to the Imperial coffers.  The Great Empress,
May She Live Forever, was said to have smiled at citizen #371667 and said she
would watch him.  He was then commanded to read the Imperial Law, which he
did.  We will of course continue to watch him for the glory of the Empire!

Findings:  Citizen #371667 donated nearly nineteen gold on his first visit
within the meeting room of oaths.  He is clearly in good standing at this
point within the Imperial Coffers and shall be watched and judged.

Notes:  Citizen #371667 made known he wishes to ascend quickly and work hard
to obtain stature within the Empire of our Great Empress, May She Live
Forever!

Background:  Citizen #371667 was born to the Prostitute Elenia Crisnis before
the reign of Empress Eoria.  Citizen #298522 claims that her son was the
product of her relations with a centurion killed in duty by the barbarous
Fortress of "light."  We were unable to verify any of these claims.  Citizen
#298522 often took her boy to work with her where he would play around the
bar at the Inn of Balator.  He has mentioned being approached by the Assassin
known as Terminator, but we were unable to locate him for questioning.
During the times of trial before our Glorious Empress reign citizen #371667
was approached with his first job.  He successfully took the life of a
worthless boy who stole from the Owl and Thistle.  His corpse was seen and
the story confirmed at the keep to the west of Balator.Let it be known that
citizen #371667 never applied to the roles of the "Orphanage" under the
propaganda slinging knight Jaragh.  Citizen #371667 instead made his own way
through those years.

Goals:  Citizen #371667 has stated his desire to become a member of the
Shadow Sect and a known follower of the Great Ebony Warlock.  He did make
mention of being a leader among his group and a model for others to look to.

Findings:  Citizen #371667 not only took up his profession well, but also
performed odd jobs to bring food and shelter for his family.  He has the
makings of a model citizen.  He will be watched and documented.
