Description
Milky eyes of white, devoid of any pupil, gaze endlessly. The rest of her
face is mired by fingerprints of mud and grime, camouflaging most details
other than faint patterns of tattooed dots. Several bone posts pierce her
eyebrows, each carved with a hook to link her eyelids perpetually open. What
appears to be a single fang of a python pierces her bottom lip, the length
and venomous tip ending an inch below her chin. Chains of bone hang from her
neck in elegant abundance, each notably meaningful. Seaweed, bark and leather
are woven together in shamanistic wrist attire, insects appearing to have
nested within them for some time. Similarly, the movement of leeches draw
attention to their perch along her neck and yet her skin appears unhindered
nor irritated by their presence.
Her eyes suddenly appear to twitch in a way that any other individual with
pupils might if they were looking back at you.
Role
The New Moon

A reflection of the new moon distorted as the ripples announced the movement
in an otherwise stagnant swamp. The child, minutes old, was silent where
other children cried out, but not unusual in any other way other than her
eyes and the smudges of embryonic fluid only partially wiped away. The elder
cradled the elven baby, kneeling at the edge of the swamp in ritualistic
prayer, the presence of the ripples indicating the received calling from this
particular holy spot.
The MaissAkra approached, the most revered, if not holy, recognition of
the PythAkra Tribe. The enormous Python parted the miry surface,
disrupting countless mosquitos in this shallow section of water. An instance
before her scales meet the mossy soil the form shifts, contorting to an
ancient wood-elf, her skin untouched by mud or grime, but instead her
clothing seems anything other than what grows and accumulates in the
swampmire.
Shamanistic drawings and runes are tattood in various ways devoid of any
apparent meaning and cover much of her body, not excluding her face. Her
hair has been shaven high on each side of her head, but the top has been
braided, the length reaching the moss and soil with the very end lost within
the murky waters. Bones, dried and leathered sinew form adornments of various
designs from anklets and bracelets to specific piercings.
A column of small python teeth pierce the bridge of her nose that separates
two aged almond-shaped eyes that pierce everything they look upon without any
discernible pupil. The milky orbs take in the elder, The IssAkra, and the
silent child within her arms last. Some unspoken communication takes place as
the IssAkra extends the child in her arms, no longer supported against her
body.
Hissing in a relaxed slow rasp, the MaissAkra raises one hand, held
highly towards the new moon above - having once more been revealed by the
departure of clouds. The moon angled as if cradled upon the weathered skin
between her thumb and first finger. The slow hiss of her voice continued
unbroken by breath as she placed her free hand upon the childs forehead.
The babys eyelids snapped open at the touch, pearly-white eyes all but
identical and devoid of pupils to match the MaissAkras own. The
ancient one tapered her hiss, an unearthly abnormal silence was palpable in
the swamp. There were no mosquitos in flight, the surface of the muk appeared
as if stone other than the glow of the moons imprint.
"The Sssspirits wait no longer. She issss here."
Long after the MaissAkra invoked the spirits to return to her Python
form, the child and elder gone, even the mosquitoes lost in slumber - the
surface mire of the stagnant swamp continued to ripple of its own accord.
The Full Moon

The full moon illuminated the sacred spot of the Pyth'Akra people as they
gathered around a young woman named Zsorilya. The air reverberated with the
dull hums and hisses of their chant as the Ma'iss'Akra performed the
final conclusions of their ritual denoting her place as a Ss'Akra forever
more. Unlike the elder Iss'Akra who performed as teacher and caretaker,
this child was to become the tribes Ma'iss'Akra if the foretelling was
to be true and the Spirits granted their consent.
The bone posts pierced her eyelids easily for they were not only intricately
designed to represent their Spirit ancestors, but to function a purpose. The
Ma'iss'Akra as they have always been, always are, and always will be
forever keep their eyes open to the Spirit world. They see more than beast
and man.
The Ma'iss'Akra was not decorated in similarity, but her eyes never
blinked, deathly open with an indiscernible gaze. The blessings of the ritual
completed and the remaining silence was only disturbed by the cacophony of
every living creature in the miry depths.
Zsorilya of the Pyth'Akra would begin her sojourn, as much a pilgrimage as
spiritual enlightenment to heed their calls.
Glossary

Due to formatting errors, many apostrophes were inadvertently dropped in the first
chapter. Ideally, I don't wish for an extensive glossary, but for clarity sake:
The Pyth'Akra Tribe - a wood-elf society for lack of a better word. Not bound by man
or their laws. They all revere in the spiritual world and worship them as they might
deities.
Ma'iss'Akra - the most revered position of recognition inside the Pyth'Akra tribe. Able
to not only hear, but speak with the spiritual world. They are most notable by the lack
of pigmentation to their eyes. Rumors also suggest one lives in a given lifetime, indicating
the birth and/or death of an existing ancient one.
Iss'Akra - an elder, medicine woman, of the Pyth'Akra tribe. They are known to have
an ability to call forward in the Spirit world, but very rarely has one ever heard a
direct response. Often, several may exist in one lifetime within their tribe.
Akra - while no direct translation to the common tongue of Thera, this word might
closely resemble the meaning towards family or pack of wolves. A collection of no small
bond.
Addendum: Akra can be used in many conjunctions such as Amors'Akra do convey a collective's
love or appreciation. Such that Pyth'amors'Akra would convey the love and gratitude of
herself and tribe. Another notable conjunction by many of their warriors is that of
Wrass'Akra. A meaning to convey the wrath and vexation towards an enemy who would do their
family harm.
The Waxing Moon

Zsorilya of the Pyth'Akra scaled a section of the Tree, locating her perch
and propped comfortably. The Outlanders had become a second home as much as
the swamps almost overnight. As she began to slip into a slumbering trance,
she was dimly aware of how little her eyelids pulled against the barbed
piercings. Sleep came quickly while her eyes remained wide open.

She was falling, neither slow or fast, as dreams often skewed such sensation
until a splash of stagnant water cradled her plummet. She was looking upwards
from below the murky surface, the waxing moon illuminating a near-cloudless
sky, the details blurred and shimmering from the ripples she left behind
above. An awareness struck her in that moment - a lucidity allowed her to sit
upright, cresting the surface of the swamp waters.
Before her, with her village just out of sight, she saw the Ma'iss'Akra
walking amidst the tangle of the natural terrain. A silvery aura was evident
about the Ma'iss'Akra, glowing like the moon itself. Thin tendrils of wispy
silver stretched out from her aura in a languid ethereal link to each natural
formation of the mire. As Zsorilya focused more deeply, even the tiniest
wisps of spirit connected individual mosquitoes to the Ma'iss'Akra's own
form. Zsorilya, although fully aware, could merely observe and as she relaxed
her focus a python caught her attention from the peripheral of her gaze. A
much brighter form of this spiritlink sprung into view, connecting the
silvery aura about the python's form and that of the Ma'iss'Akra's.
Zsorilya of the Pyth'Akra rose to her feet, the swamp shifting in the process
to take on a younger version. A wood-elf was almost invisible perched upon
the lowest branch of a nearby tree. She was unmistakably a Ma'iss'Akra, but
Zsorilya did not recognize her. While her eyes matched her own, this elf was
adorned with much more protective equipment. Uniquely, her armor had the
appearance of plated metal and even some portions that would have been
considered chain mail except each was evidently formed of natural wood and
bark. This elf's spirit was as illuminated as the previous, and wisps of
tendrils stretched out connecting with every living thing near to her. There
was no differentiating where her own aura, and that of the tree she perched
upon ended or began. Each sharing and enveloping the others.
Zsorilya of the Pyth'Akra looked down upon the stagnant surface's reflection
of the waxing moon, the ripples impacting her with vertigo as the scenery
shifted further from the swampland and into a forest have covered in ash and
fire.

As she rotated her body around, examining the forest, she noted her own
silvery aura, tendrils stretching out from her and with them the sensation of
living creatures, living plants... and a kindred spirit. A wall of thorns
that would have pierced the flesh of any normal person seemed to part of
their own accord, allowing an elf to step into view. The ethereal tendril
between herself and the elf was clear to see, but paled by direct comparison
to that of the elf's spirit-link to the thorny wall of vines behind her that
once against closed tightly.
The white-eyed Ma'iss'Akra seemed to look into her soul as much through her,
"Do you feel them, daughter of Thar-Eris?"

Zsorilya of the Pyth'Akra broke from her slumber, immediately reorienting
herself and noting she was still within the Tree. She looked down at her
form, but the visible aura she witnessed asleep was no longer visible to her
vision. With the words still echoing in her mind she nimbly scaled down the
tree and began reading the names carved upon the totem as she had many times
before. However, this time she stretched out her hand, placing it upon the
totem and felt as if her spirit connected with those that had come before
her, convincingly envisioning those wisps of ethereal tendrils connecting
herself to the history of her people.
The Full Moon

Within the grace and illumination of the full moon, Zsorilya of the Pyth'Akra
departed the conscious realm to enter that which oft was referred to as the
Primeval Dream. In particular, the point in-between these two states in which
she felt a strong pull to commune with the spiritual realm.
While the common beasts of Thera recognize her as a Dweller of the Wilds, she
would be considered one of the Iss'Akra midst her village. A newfound
confidence would now open her own spirit to the path of the Ma'iss'Akra.
The spiritual realm embraced her, and as always, indirectly and with
sensational insights only. In this case, she was aware that this path could
not be taught by traditional methods, the tutelage would only come by the
Spirits themselves. Be it markings, empowerment or further unknown forms of
revelation, it would be up to the Spirits to provide their reciprocated
presence.
As that of the Iss'Akra, she would continue to divine the spirits against
those in particular to enslave their existence and freedoms. Those labored
under orderly ethos, those binding the spirits before their natural release -
they would receive the focus of the Wrass'Akra. Light and Darkness were
meaningless as long as the Spirits' freedoms were maintained in tumultuous
chaos. Darkness would blend to light, and light to darkness...
Those of the spire and empire were obvious in their labored Spirits, but she
would need to devise a way to see those otherwise concealed within their
spiritual states.
