Description
A pair of bright emerald coloured eyes dart back and forth as this
wood-elf surveys his surroundings. Hair black as pitch cascades wildly
over his broad shoulders. His build is lean, and muscular the result
of what would appear to be a life spent in the wilds. His olive coloured
skin is smooth and firm. He stands just over five and a half feet tall.
His clothing is simple, but looks well cared for. The most noticeable
thing about his persona is a fresh, bloodied wound which looks to be
in the shape of a spider upon his right cheek, just below his eye.
Role
The coven of the Raven.

The coven of the Raven is only ever whispered about within wood-elven
society. The story of the coven is something mothers might use to
scare their children into behaving.
The elder witches that are atop the hierarchy of the coven are known
to kidnap orphans, and wood-elven children whom walk through dark woods
at night. This is how it is believed that they bolster their ranks.
The coven is known for worshipping the primal aspects of the Raven
itself. The Raven is cunning, resourceful and a harbinger of death.
Thus, the members of the coven hold the spheres of Wisdom, Strength,
and Death in the highest regard. It is said that members will worship
under an open sky, upon ground that has not been tainted by civilization.
Members of the coven have sworn to bring death to those who support
civilization, and try to further its advance. Using strength, and
cunning the coven hunts the civilized mercilessly. Because of this,
they are shunned by wood-elves who hold more traditional beliefs.
They are feared by their own kin, and rightly so.
Members of the coven believe that only the death of civilization can
lead to the rebirth of Thar-Eris. And it is this rebirth that shall
once again restore the balance that the ancients had intended.
A talon of the coven
Added Thu Dec 24 10:15:17 2015 at level 1:
Zylfaer was an unwanted orphan when the coven took him. He does not
recall his parents at all, and the only surname he has ever known
was given to him by the coven upon becoming a full member - BloodClaw.
To Zylfaer the witches of the coven were all his mothers, as they are
to any that they have trained. He does not share the disdain, or fear
of them that many wood-elves have.
Sacrificing the captured guardsman as a rite of passage to earn his place
amongst the coven had not bothered him in the slightest. He merely saw it
as something that needed to be done. Morality is not a burden suffered by
a Raven.
Ever learning the ways of the land, Zylfaer is always looking to broaden
his knowledge, for he believes that wisdom paramount to a successful hunt.
Zylfaer's purpose within the coven is to be a talon, and bring death
to the enemies of Thar-Eris. As such, he bears the mark of a talon
upon his right cheek which was given to him under the sign of death.
He has been sent out in the world, to bring death to the civilized
so that balance might be restored.
A home within the tree and the search for the great spirit.
Added Mon Dec 28 15:45:55 2015 at level 24:
Zylfaer had taken to his new home within the tree of the Ancients
with ease. He had impressed the Harbinger with his desire to bring
death to the orderly, and destruction to civilization. Although he
felt quite comfortable, something vexed him. His prayers to the spirit
of the raven had long gone unanswered, and he began to doubt they would
be.
He spent his time wandering about the wilds, seeking a sign from the
great spirit. Eventually his travels brought him to the plains east
of the foul city of Udgaard. There, as he did pray a Raven took
flight from a nearby tree. Zylfaer immediately began to pursue the
Raven at a full run, his legs carrying him as quick as they could
while he tried to keep a pace so as to not lose sight of the bird.
His pursuit of the Raven led him into a mountain ravine, and towards
a long forgotten tower. Almost to the tower, the Raven quickly changed
its direction, and flew with intent into the mouth of a large cavern.
Zylfaer, his pace slowing as he watched the Raven dive at a lone spider,
an easy meal. To both his surprise, and very much to the surprise of the
Raven he watched as the Raven became completely entangled in a translucent
web of fine spider silk. It's cawing, and thrashing only served to further
immobilize it.
Where there was once one spider, there now were many varying in size. All
of them approaching the frantically struggling bird. Within seconds the
cawing, and struggling were over as was the life of the Raven. The Hunter
had become the prey.
Zylfaer having witnessed the demise of the Raven, felt strangely compelled
to investigate the cave. He took a few steps toward the mouth of the cave
and upon reaching the opening proper, he felt his hair blown back by a
warm breeze carrying the fetid scent of death and decay. He took a step
back, as uncertainty gripped him. He turned away and began to head back
to the tree of the Ancients. All the while pondering the fate of the
Raven. He wondered, could it have been an omen?
A new acquaintance and the cave revisited.

Zylfaer had come to talk to, and potentially befriend a dark-elf reaver
named Kyrrenthia. She was a peculiar being, in that she had no memory of
how she came to be, nor where she came from. In fact, she had no sense of
time at all.
Zylfaer explained to her the concept of time, the past, the present and,
the future. He also spent time trying to understand how it was that she
had no memory whatsoever. A mystery he has yet to solve.
When Kyrrenthia came to him claiming to have heard a whisper from the
shadows, describing an all powerful voice he believed her without a
doubt. As she described the voice to him, and told him that the voice
had identified itself as an awakened Ancient a vision of the cave from
the day prior swept over him. He relived the experience of watching the
Raven die, and once again felt compelled to explore the cavern. They
decided they would visit it together.
As he once again stood at the gaping entrance of the cavern, he steeled
his nerves and strode in alongside his companion. All about them spiders
skittered, they did not menace him nor did they pay any mind to Kyrrenthia.
They came upon a great statue of a spider, formed out of death itself
bone, flesh and rock. They also came upon inexplicable shifting runes
the likes of which neither of them had ever seen. Finally, they came
to a motionless mirror-like pool. It was there that Zylfaer decided
he would offer his prayer to the Ancient.
Zylfaer told Kyrrenthia that he desired to offer prayer and homage to the
Ancient that surely must dwell here, he had heard rumors and whispers of
the Midnight spider, and he knew that the spider did rule over the spheres
of death, as well as fate. Kyrrenthia bid him farewell, for she was not one
for prayer, and she made her way out of the cavern.
The blessings of an Ancient, and a new beginning.

Kneeling beside the mirror-like surface of the pool, Zylfaer offered words
of prayer to the Ancient Midnight Spider. He beseeched the spider to help
him understand his own fate, he did not yet understand why the spirit of the
Raven had ignored him.
Zylfaer with his head bowed, peered into the clear pool, and watched an
ominous dark shape take form beside him within it's reflection. Bright
red eyes peered upon him, and then the words came as silent as the hiss
of a snake "Observant?" the voice mused as Zylfaer took in Drehir the
physical manifestation of Drehir.
Zylfaer paid his respects to the Ancient, and explained that he did not
understand why he had been led here by the Raven, but hoped that the
Ancient of Fate could provide answers. Drehir sharply explained that
the Raven would not dare come into his domain. Nodding, Zylfaer recited
the happenings of the day prior, the demise of the Raven. "Why do you
believe you were brought here?" Drehir asked.
An epiphany washed over him, Zylfaer began to understand. He spoke, "It
is Fate that I was born under the sign of Death, and that I was brought
here by the Raven." Drehir whispered a warning "Unless you seek to be
free of the Raven, you should not be here." Zylfaer thought upon the
Raven dying foolishly for a meal. Confidence welling within him as he
spoke "Perhaps I was truly meant for another path, for the Raven has ever
been deaf to my prayers". "What will you offer me as prey of your hunt?"
Drehir asked. Zylfaer offered a lawman, a defiler, and a priest of an
opposing faith. Drehir nodded, and granted Zylfaer his blessing. Zylfaer
closed his eyes as he felt the power of the Ancient flow through his veins.
When he re-opened them the Ancient was gone, and the cave was once more
dark and silent.
Zylfaer looked once more back at the pool, and saw the reflection of his
face, the talon of the Raven inked upon his cheek along with the charm
around his neck. He ripped the charm off, leaving it beside the pool as
an offering.
After returning home to the tree of the Ancients, Zylfaer waited for
nightfall, then took to the prosimy wood. He came upon a pond, and
under the moonlight set to his task. Using the pond as a mirror, with
a small knife he carefully began to cut into his right cheek just below
the eye. He felt his own blood warming his hand, but he did not stop
nor did the pain dissuade him from his task. Once he was finished
he took a moment to admire the bleeding spider-shaped wound that had
replaced the tattoo he had received so long ago. He stood up, and
took to his new beginning.
Small deceptions
Added Sun Jan 10 12:00:10 2016 at level 31:
"Small deceptions" whispered the Midnight spider. Zylfaer could feel
the burning red eyes of the Ancient piercing his soul. The feeling did
not bother him, He had come to enjoy the idea that his fate was not in
his own hands. Sweet death would eventually be the gift that would end
his own mortality, and with it all would be revealed.
Zylfaer set to work upon the task of weaving his small deceptions. He
feigned interest, covering his absolute boredom while he suffered through
a song sang by Gwildaththea. His pale-skinned cousin embraced life above
all else. Zylfaer feigned interest in her song and sermon. Fooling her
seemed all too easy.
Zylfaer learned much about her from his clever ruse. He knew he would not
be able to rely upon her should the need to bring death arise. She seemed
content to sing to trees, flowers...and anything else that could not escape
readily. Her useless songs would do little in the war against the civilized.
Zylfaer masked his contempt for his pale-skinned cousin. For perhaps, it
would be best to let her think he felt somewhat the same way as her. Perhaps
she would tend to his wounds some day as long as she did not know his true
opinion of her.
A second deception Zylfaer had undertaken was a small deception of the
Harbinger herself. The Harbinger had often proven herself weak of spirit
and body. Zylfaer offered the Harbinger aide, but secretly he found her
lacking. Perhaps someday, he would plot her demise and replacement. But,
that day would be long in the future, for he was still simply an Omega to
her Alpha for the time being.
